About the author

Byron Barton is the author and illustrator of many picture books for young children. He has been honored by ALA, SLJ, and Reading Rainbow. He worked as an animator for CBS before he started creating children's books. He is currently making his illustrations completely on the computer.

Jack wants to keep a stray dog, but his mother won't hear of it. So he dresses the dog up as a friend instead and brings him home to spend the night. His parents decide that Jack should have a pet (his friend is kind of strange), so Jack reveals his secret at the pet store.

I loved this book growing up. The illustrations are quirky and very colorful. I enjoyed reading this to my son and he liked it too.
