This book is thorough. If you're interested in hot mix asphalt (sounds like an album title) then this is the place to start.

And why should you be interested if you're not the sort of person who's going to make a batch of hot mix asphalt? Because we're surrounded by it. We walk on it, drive on it, live with it. It's an unremarked detail of our day-to-day routines yet it underpins what we do--and I mean almost all that we do--in fundamental ways.
