I've given this a C+ at AAR, so that's 3.5 stars

Bound by Their Secret Passion is the fourth and final book in Diane Gaston’s series of stories about The Scandalous Summerfields, three sisters and one half-brother whose name became a byword for scandal when their mother ran off with her lover and their father, a libertine and drunkard, gambled away everything and left them destitute.

The previous book, Bound by a Scandalous Secret, whetted my appetite for this, the story of the eldest sister, Lore

When gossip is spread about someone, whether it is true or false, it can affect that person’s life for years to come. The Scandalous Summerfields is about four siblings who suffered because of the actions of their parents, and one of the sisters is still greatly feeling the effects in the fourth and final book in the series. While this woman was a thoughtful individual, and she did her best to help those for whom she cared, her own future is bleak. But when circumstances change in an instant, sh ...more

Bound By Their Secret Passion is a romantic tale full of scandal and intrigue. Lorene is married to a much older Lord. Not out of love, but to secure a better future for her sisters and half-brother. She has given up on true love. Dell, a distant relative to the Summerfield clan, is equally unhappy. He lost his entire family in a devastating house fire and is struggling to come to terms with his loss. Marriage or love is not really on the cards for him. A wall is firmly erected around his heart. ...more

The story is very safe and follows a much used recipe for this genre, not that there is anything wrong with that. This is the first time I have read Gaston’s work so I am not going to judge on this one outing. I do like the over all writing or Gaston’s work though, she is a witty, smart and very charming writer who knows her craft and the fact that I got that impression from my first of her work just goes to show that what a skilful writer she is.

I have followed the fortunes of the Scandalous Summerfields as each of them found happiness. Each of the four books in the series has been immensely satisfying, and the final one, “Bound by their Secret Passion”, was no exception. It managed to tie up the loose ends and round off the series clearly, while also being a complete story in itself. And what a story! It had everything: intrigue, extortion, star crossed lovers and a scandal. I found myself turning the pages quicker and quicker, wonderi ...more

This story all seemed to linger on a kiss... But what's in a kiss? I felt the prelude to the first kiss between our hero and heroine highlighted just how deeply they were hiding their true feelings and emotions from society least they be condemned for acting on them.

Dell & Lorene's romance, I thought captured the angst, yearning and longing for the forbidden... The proverbial 'forbidden fruit,' just within reach but just one bite could bring certain disaster.

This Historical Romance has had mix

Several years later, whilst not in a "happy" marriage, she is content to know that her siblings have all married for love. Diane as always never ever disappoints, went through every emotion and was fully immersed into the book and it was a complete honour to read it, fell in love with the hero, usually in historical romance its the Hero's you want to shout honour be damned listen to your heart first, utterly adore also the epilogue, and seriously want to slap the ever interfering Duchess but you need characters to love and hate to balance an amazing book Diane definitely does this, thank you Diane and Mills and Boon ...more

Good conclusion to the series. Lorene has been a key character in all of the books. Years earlier she had sacrificed her own happiness by marrying a much older man. She did so in exchange for him providing for her sisters and half-brother. It was not a happy marriage, as the Earl of Tinmore could be a cruel and controlling man, but Lorene made the best of her circumstances. Then, at Christmas, she defied his order to stay away from her family and walked five miles through the snow to spend the d ...more

There is nothing earth shatteriing about this book. I enjoyed it because I'd read the others in this series which I think were actually better than this book. I really liked the hero. He was the perfect gentleman, courteous, considerate, and altruistic at least for the majority of the story. ...more

Romances share similarities in titles as well as plotlines. Words like “bound”, “secret”, “scandal”, “passion”, “conquest”, “taming” or “surrender” proliferate so widely, you wonder if these writers simply riffle through a hat filled with worded strips of paper to attach them to their works.

Insipid and forgettable title aside, this book manages a few surprises. The love affair doesn’t get going for quite some time, since the lady in question is already married and then a widow under very suspici

Lorene Summerfield wed for duty so her siblings would be able to find love. Now she finds herself widowed and the man she has secretly loved is being accused of her husband’s murder. The Earl of Penford has always been drawn to Lorene but is not sure he is ready for love in his life. He still has not recovered from the loss of his family to a fire. Love, however, cannot be denied and the two find passion in each other’s arms. Now the Earl must clear himself of the charges if they are to have a f ...more

This was the last of the series of the Scandalous Summerfields and it had rather a slow start with too much time dedicated to the death of Lord Tinmore. I almost decided not to continue but I was glad I persevered. The story did pick up and the ending tied in nicely with all that had gone before. I liked the main characters and there was a plethora of interesting secondary characters, including the interfering Duchess of Kessington, Lorene's totally selfish mother and Dell's best friend, who all ...more

The author is gifted storyteller. The characters have such depth, you can feel their emotions along with them as the story unfolds. The plot flowed smoothly and there were no loose ends or extraneous characters used as fill ins. I found it a real page turner. Five solid stars. I am anxious to read more of Ms. Gaston's books. ...more

It was good up to a point, I guess, and had a suitable amount of angst and all; but I think social distancing has made me hard to please and honestly how is she still a virgin nsndalkmd
