'Past events can be changed but one must be careful of how one does it because it'll impact on the rest of one's life.'--Dáire Quin, Modify your Destiny if you Must, 2003

The shimmering man stood in front of me all celestial-like. Heatless sparks illuminated the area around, but strangely not his face. I couldn't see his face. He came forwards--no, he floated forwards--as I

4☆ If you could go back and change your past.... would You!?

Wide Awake Asleep is a very clever book that transports the reader from present to Past via time travel/ jumping brought on by a very unfortunate car accident.

When Julie is involved in a car crash she never in her widest dreams thought she would end up back in time and in her Childhood home.
Traveling back to the 1970s and 1980s revisiting all her past events.

Julie and her mother have a very strained relationship. Julie is very resentful

I was surprised by this book - in a good way! The thought of a time travel book is always a little unsettling as to how it will be approached, but the way this author dealt with it was clever and engaging and I found myself unable to wait to see where the character, Jules, would end up next in her past.

Julie Compton is in 2016 - life is going pretty well for her, aged 49 - and then disaster strikes as she's in a car crash. This begins her journey back into her past and she gets transported back
Caroline Vincent - Bits about Books
An intriguing and fascinating paranormal novel about a woman, Julie, on a journey through time to relive and understand what happened in her past…

| Introduction |

It is the year 2016 and Julie counts the time before she can leave her mother – these obligatory visits to the nursing home to a mother who cannot stop grumbling about a father Julie adored, are killing her. Julie has always blamed her mother for her father moving out and her subsequent years in care. Despite everything, now Julie’s mo

Full disclosure: I am not often attracted to sci-fi or books that suspend belief using scientific theories such as time travel. However, I could not put this book down and read it into the wee hours of the morning because the author weaves such an interesting tale that makes sense even to someone like me, who normally reads about sports and straight historical fiction.

In 2016, 49-year-old Julie Compton, a successful single businesswoman, is driving in the English countryside and becomes lost. S

13 Going on 30 meets The Butterfly Effect.

What if the story you were given as a child wasn’t the truth? What if that story shaped your life in a negative impact which could have been avoided with the truth? What if you had the opportunity to go back in time and change the path of your life?

Would you take it?

Julie Compton is a successful business owner with every materialistic item she can dream of. But with work comes the neglect of a personal life and at age 49 she has no one. Her mother is dy

After reading the blurb for this book I was really keen to read it and see what the book was about and I am so pleased that I did!  I enjoyed the plot and the characters were genuinely likeable.

The book is really well written and as soon as I got in to the story it didn't take me very long to read at all. I liked the combination of the different genres - the book covers modern day, science fiction, drama and romance, humour and the time-travelling aspect

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could go back in time to all the key moments of your youth and correct the errors you made that sent your life and the lives of your friends and family onto a dark path? it would be nice, and in this story Julie (Jules) does just that. When she is on the brink of death and in a coma after a car accident, Julie -- a successful but lonely businesswoman -- is transported back in time and assumes the bodies of different people in her life over six different episodes. Once reading the blurb for this book I knew I had to read it! I like time travel books and I’m a sucker for such TV programs such as Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. This book sounded right up my street. In 2016 Julie Compton is a successful business woman but with a lot of old deep-rooted family issues. She is involved in a car accident which by all rights she should have

Where to start with this book? First of all apologies for my late posting of this review, but I just finished the book and to be honest I am still processing my feelings! This is such a great book, a time travel foray into the inner workings of childhood sorrows and the impact of these events on adult life. The mother and daughter relationship underpins the whole book and is gritty and very true to life, even being set in fantasy. I started off hating the very opinionated and mean spirited mothe ...more

First of all, I just want to say that I absolutely loved this amazing book. A time travel book was always going to appeal but this one is done so incredibly well and it was just a pleasure to read from start to finish.

Julie Compton has a good life. She's 49, happily single, with a thriving business but one day she has a serious car accident and finds herself back in 1972, not in her own body but in that of a stranger, an onlooker to her early life. From there she 'time hops' between various bodi

I was so intrigued by the premise for Wide Awake Asleep and to be honest I didn't really know what to expect. At some point in all of our lives we have probably felt like we would love to go back and perhaps make a different decision. This is exactly the opportunity that Julie gets and she definitely ends up going on quite a journey. I really don't want to give away any spoilers so I'm going to try to be quite vague when mentioning the plot. It's safe to say that I was easily pulled into this st ...more

This tale is not what you think it will be. That doesn’t matter, though, because it is unique. Time travel tales usually either get into science behind the trick, or into the consequences brought about by doing it in the first place. In Wide Awake Asleep, however, these elements are not even part of the story, at least not directly.

Jules is a well-off, but isolated 49-year-old British woman, isolated mostly due to her own choices throughout her life. Following a severe accident, she finds hersel

A time travel tale worth reading.

I really enjoyed the way this author writes and I immediately fell into the story of Jules.

It starts off with her and her mother and you learn about the backstory of her life. I admired that even though her relationship with her mother wasn’t a good one, she was still taking care of her in her time of need.

Afterwards, she has an accident while traveling in her car. From there, the author takes you on a well written time travel journey to try to change the past.

Captivating Fantasy Read

Has your life sucked? Ever wanted to go back in time to fix mistakes? Jules finds herself in that situation unexpectedly. This book does an excellent job exploring how small acts form our lives. While I think we should pick up from where we are and move on, this book is a tantalizing story of what could be if “only we could go back and redo.”

A real page-turner!

I must admit that to start with I found the writing style a little difficult but I was soon gripped by the story and eager to know what happened. The characters are well thought out and the the plot is very interesting.

Well worth a read.
