Here come the Portland babies, ready to give you a tour of the City of Roses in this appealing board book! Spirited and charming images pair with quirky text to introduce young readers to a group of smart, active, stylish, and just plain silly tots enjoying life in Portland. From Forest Park to the iconic aerial tram and the Portland Children's Museum, this entertaining book is an essential introduction to the fun in store for the babies of Portland. And the fun doesn't end there. Portland Baby includes oodles of amusing activities and educational reading tips to help parents enjoy the book with their children over and over again!
Barbara Kerley was born in Washington, D.C. and has lived in many places, including Nepal and the tropical island of Guam. She has written about almost everything: 19th C iguanodons, Teddy Roosevelt, world peace, Mark Twain's donkey, and the pleasure of following your curiosity.
We are new grandparents and our daughter put us onto the idea of buying a book - board book at the moment as our granddaughter is only six months old - everywhere we visit to give our granddaughter a taste of the places we have see. Our daughter started this with the 'Goodnight (insert city)' books when travelling whilst pregnant.
I found the Portland Baby book in the famous, and huge, Powell's City of Books, and couldn't resist buying it. it is colourful and humorous and there is a page at the back with tips on how to enjoy the book with your child.
Such a good souvenir and more lasting than a tee shirt.
A cute board book for Portlanders, filled with iconic adventures in the Rose City, from reading in the park, eating Voodoo Donuts, cheering on the Blazers, smelling roses, and visiting OMSI. I like reading it to Elliot before our Oregon trips, but he hasn’t been crazy about it. Maybe once we visit some of the places mentioned, he’ll connect to it more.
Spend a day with a Portland baby and see sights and experience things that might be unique to a child from the city of roses. My favorite part is probably the final two-page spread which includes questions for young readers to engage more with this board book.
Another one of Bug’s favorites. We got this for her as one of her first birthday gifts from Made in Oregon, and we think it’s super cute. There are lots of neat and funny Portland things. Personal favorite, “Other babies say ‘Dada,’ but in Portland, we say ‘Donut!’”
I can't claim this book is good, and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who doesn't live in the northwest. But if you do, it hits all the marks you'd want: parks, books, rain, donuts. Tried and true (and trite, but that's OK).
