A tasty little morsel that left me satisfied.

Anna Campbell has again given me a sweet little treat to satisfy my historical romance addiction. In Mistletoe and the Major, we are introduced to a young couple that has been separated for nearly 8 years after only two weeks of marriage. Considering the year and how things were done back then, they were practically strangers. Two weeks was hardly enough time for them to know each other, let alone establish trust and communication. Neither knew that i

Now he’s returning to a woman he fell in love with but was unsure of her feelings for him. It’s been a long time and he doesn’t know if she’s even interested in continuing their relationship.

This is such a lovely story, the Christmas season being an ideal setting for Edmund and Felicity to reunite. Their first encounter

I can't believe I read a Christmas novella in September, but I did. I only intended to download and read the sample to see if it was something I might like but ended up reading the whole thing. Since it is only 86 pages, it wasn't that difficult. This is a pleasant little story about a married couple who truly didn't get a chance to know each other well (four weeks) when the hero, an earl, went off to war. She was only 18 when they did marry and although they both were very much attracted to eac ...more

I started my Christmas reading early this year with a lovely, heart-warming second-chance short story from Anna Campbell.

It was love at first sight for Edmund and Felicity (Flick), but they had only been married for two weeks when Edmund received orders to join his regiment. In their short, awkward time together, they had never felt at ease enough with each other to openly discuss their true feelings and were still little more than strangers when Edmund left. After eight long years, Edmund is fi
This was a sweet little romance. As a novella, I thought the story had good pacing. The MCs were both very likable and the romance developed naturally.

As a second chance of sorts, it does well. There is an 8 year separation but for a very good reason. (He goes off to war). And when they meet again they are almost like strangers. I did get annoyed that they had such poor communication before he left and even their letters contained no real feelings. They were distant acquaintances and nothing mor
This novella surprised me with its fully realized emotional range and main characters. The historical details were a nice touch that added interest and depth to the very simple plot. I felt the frustration and angst of the MCs. I could even ignore the H's rake past (not that it was very detailed, thank goodness) since he was faithful to his wife during their years long separation. This author is new to me and I enjoyed her storytelling style very much. My only complaint is that I wish this were ...more

I read this story when it was part of the anthology ‘Under the kissing bough’

This story is about a young girl and a man who fell in love when they first met in a ballroom but the girl was too young and too shy to show her feelings for the man and he was too much of a gentleman and too conscience of her innocence to show her his manly feelings for her. He did propose to her and she accepted and they married but their time together was too short to show their true feelings for each other. Now afte

As reviewed at Roses Are Blue:

Edmund Sherritt, Major Lord Canforth, has finally received his official discharge documents, and is heading home after almost eight years of being a soldier. Though he's filled with anticipation at seeing his wife again, he's also feeling unsure of his reception. As he gets closer to home, Edmund thinks about meeting his wife, Felicity, whom he calls "Flick," for the first time. Edmund fell in love almost immediately upon dancing with her. The

The cover was so bright and vivid and pulled me towards it. 😻

Both MC were cute. Because this was a novella, everything was fast. But, not in a bad way. 😻 They got married and after a couple of weeks, the H had to go and serve his country at battlefields. During their honeymoon, they were strangers and after 8 years, they're still strangers. But, both loved each other and eager to make their marriage work.

I'm glad it's short because if not, it could get boring.

Charming and heartwarming

This Is a tale of two shy people together again after eight years, each uncertain of the feelings of the other. The hero is home from the wars, desperate to try to build a true marriage with the bride he left eight years ago, after a fortnight of awkward marriage. Can he win her love? The answer is no, because he has had it from the start. In true Anna Campbell fashion, we have two beautifully drawn sympathetic characters, tender moments to warm the heart, and a happy en

Anna Campbell, the author of this delightful Christmas story never fails to make me smile, once again Ms Campbell has delivered a gorgeous romantic and festive tale. This story was filled with warmth and humour and was just so darn adorable. I adored Edmund and Felicity, they were sweet, wonderful and charming characters. Digby their dog was a cutie too.

If you’re after a christmassy historical romance novella then Mistletoe and the Major is the perfect story you can sink your teeth int

A heartwarming novella

Edmund, the Earl of Canforth is finally home after years of war and very anxious about reuniting with his bride.

Flick and Edmund were only married for two weeks before he was called away and they were separated from each other in 8 years - can these two find their way back to each other after so much time apart? Can they finally say the words that they kept to themselves all those years ago?

This is a sweet Christmas novella about reunited lovers. It is a well written, stea

This was just ok for me. It was about Edmond, who was coming home from the war, eight years after he’d married Felicity. That’s a damn long time. He had been wounded in the leg but that really wasn’t talked about that much. What was talked about, or rather thought about A LOT, was how much he loved her and how she’d loved him the first time she saw him but neither one told the other. That made it a little too angsty for me, since that kind of thinking went on and on. I hate when couples don’t ta

Once I was a big fan of Anna Campbell's work, mostly her very earliest novels. Her more recent novellas turn me off. The limited page count of a romance novella must sacrifice something, either (1) plot, or (2) sex scenes. Campbell, IMO, often sacrifices plot in her novellas so that the reader can be a voyeur (voyeuse?) to the H and h getting it on.

This Christmas novella does have the obligatory sex between H and h, but the plot and its development was satisfying and played the major part in the

It's not often I give a novella five stars and this didn't actually make me cry but it made my chest all tight and stuff so I'm giving it a free pass.

Edmund and Felicity married eight years ago when she was a shy eighteen year old and he was a youngster of 24 with no experience of love apart from flirtations with women who were not potential wives. The honeymoon went as well as could be expected but before they had time to develop their relationship, he was off to war in the Peninsular and staye

this was a cute sweet short romance book. This was Edmund and felicity's story. They were married 8 years earlier and only married two weeks before he was off to fight the war a soldier in the Army, finally released and goes home to his wife who is not sure how she feels or if she still wants him. He married Flick because he had fallen in love with her. When he left she was shy and not experience and he treated her with care.

Flick has also in love with her husband and was glad that he was home a

Feel the magic

In the last seven lonely years, Felicity has matured and evolved from the frightened bride she was when her husband went to fight in the Peninsular War. They had only been married for two weeks, scarcely enough time to get to know each other.

On Christmas Eve, Edmund returns, weary and wounded and not knowing what kind of reception he will receive. How can he woo and win the love of his wife with scars and nightmares and pain coming between them?

This is more than a "second chance" s

Major Edmund Sherritt is finally home after eight years fighting in the Napoleonic Wars. He comes home to his wife, Felicity or Flick, wounded and apprehensive; he and Flick were only together as a married couple for two weeks before he was sent away. While they both love each other (unbeknowst to the other), she was a shy and naive girl, and he was too worried about her fragility (in his eyes) to let her know how he felt. Now they must learn to live together, both changed greatly from their ini ...more

Another Christmas gift to me…because Ms. Campbell does Christmas Regency romances like no other. Edmund, a bone weary, scarred soldier from the Napoleonic War, returns home after being gone for eight years, to a wife he barely knew for a week just before he left for the war. He wasn’t sure she loved him, she was such an innocent when they married. But he knew he loved her and he was afraid his passion would scare her. Now enter Felicity, a capable manager of Edmund’s estate while he was gone and ...more

A wonderful love story, of a young couple, who after 2 weeks of marriage are separated for 8years by war .
Edmund returns to Flick the woman he has always loved , not knowing she has always felt the same , a lack of communication before the war meant that neither had told the other how they felt.
It’s time for home truths , and hopefully a reconciliation.
This is a lovely , tender love story . Well written with very

Another Christmas Novella from Anna. Edmund and Flick spent only two weeks into their new marriage before Edmund went to war. Now he is home after 8 years in the Army and they have to start anew. They are older and wiser. Can they be honest with each other about their feelings? This is truly a beautiful love story that will make you smile.

Anna Campbell is just one of the best at writing a full-blown love story in a novella. She does not disappoint. I have said this before about her books, this

This was just a wonderful read! A major returns from the wars to his wife after eight years apart. Reuniting after so many years cannot be easy for either of them.

Edmund and Flick are about to not relearn each other, but restart and love.

Such an emotional book especially Edmund and his delight of being home. The part with Digby the dog nearly had me howling!

A short, but perfectly formed and recommended Christmas novella.

This might be a short story but it doesn't lose any of the impact I've come to expect from Ms Campbell's books. A reunion eight years in the making, a marriage held together by letters, and two people who have changed considerably during the intervening years - both older and wiser, and one scarred by the brutality of war. Is it too much to hope their love, which had barely been given wings, will yet fly? Well it's Christmas and there's always mistletoe! This is a wonderful read...!

I loved that the story didn't have an enemy that the couple had to combat, but rather they had to learn about each other to make their marriage work. Edmund had just returned by surprise from war and Felicity isn't quite sure how to act around him even as he's unsure how to treat her. I loved watching them fall in love and learn what each wanted from the other! (As you can tell, I loved a lot in this book!)

Mistletoe and the Major

This was a short, sweet and spicy story of a couple who married but only had two weeks before the husband is called to fight for his country. Eight years later he returns but the two are more like strangers and each is yearning for love. This story tells the journey to happiness.
A sweet and engaging holiday novella! Having Felicity and Edmund already be married helped get past the "insta-love" problem in most novellas, but they did a lot of talking and growing over a brief period of time. Mostly believable, but it would have been nice to have an epilogue flash forward a year or so and see if they've been able to keep being open and honest with one another.
