I live in Switzerland next to the Zürich Lake. I am married, have two beautiful boys, two cats and a dog. In my previous (pre-author) life, I was a neuroscientist, a marketing manager and an entrepreneur. Now, my work is my passion: writing. I hope you will enjoy the world of my imagination.
I will admit, I am a sucker for science fiction. I really did want to love this book. There was nothing wrong with the writing. I even at times felt that the mc, Dora was kind of endearing. The romance was sweet and smart.
The reason I don't feel like this warrants more than three stars is that I didn't really feel like a whole lot happened. Now if you are a technology buff you might disagree. I myself was bored quite a lot of the time with the descriptions of the systems and the computers and the teleporting. I suppose it's nice when something like that gets explained so well especially if it's far more advanced than anything your average Joe would see or use on a daily basis, but it certainly wasn't riveting. To me, it wasn't even mildly interesting. If it was given less page-space I might not have minded so much but the explanations got kind of lengthy. My overall lasting impression is forests, techno-speak, romance - but with nothing exciting going on in between.
Then the ending. What a heartbreaker. But now I have to keep reading, even if that means suffering through another round of lengthy boring explanations, because I must know what happens. And, naturally, the next book isn't out yet.
Enjoyable SF story with a touch of romance. Dana/Dora is a sympathetic protagonist with some interesting layers. Other characters in the story, including J, the romantic interest, are less fully realized. Nonetheless, the characters and worldbuilding have piqued my interest enough that I will keep my eye out for the next book in the series.
In the Uni, the organization of worlds upon which the descendants of Earth live, there are many different genetic variants from the original Human genome.
Dora Dana Dasnan is a Senthien. She has the brightest green eyes anyone has ever seen and she is a gifted Visionaire, she possesses the ability to take in mountains of data and to most clearly predict the future.
However, something is rotten in Uni and Dora knows it. She has a second sense about things and, when she is called to see the ruling priesthood, the Zalthars, she knows her life is in danger.
Dora and her companion, Stevanion, are porting to the Zalthars location when there is an error in the Mind, the AI system that runs Uni. They find themselves on a primitive planet full of wild vegetation.
This begins the fantastic story of what exactly happened to Earth and her descendants and the unlikely tale of how Humankind tries to recover from an Extinction Level Event.
The author, Tara Jade Brown mixes technology, genetics, eugenics, space travel, paranormal skills and post apocalyptic themes almost seamlessly into an unforgettable story.
The fact that The Senthien is just the first of three books only makes the reading experience better. When you get to the end, you will be so glad the story isn't really over.
This book is a light and fascinating sci- fi page-turner as well as a truly enjoyable romance. I really liked the main character Dana, also called Dora. I enjoyed getting to know her complex character, her species, the complex dystopian future universe she is living in and the secret she is hiding. She is very much her own character, but at times she sort of reminds me of a mix of many of my favourite iconic characters from past sci-fi and fantasy: Ayla from Clan of the Cave Bear, Mr. Spock from Star Trek, and several others. I found myself rooting for her in all of the challenging situations she gets herself into. The man she falls in love with is a very attractive and likeable character. Watching their romance develop is surprising, fun and heartwarming. Their chemistry is off the charts, but in many ways they are an unlikely pair in a difficult situation, so getting closer isn't easy which makes it extra fun to watch.... The story around them does what all good science fiction does. It looks at humanity from an unusual viewpoint, allowing insight into human nature and life itself, while grappling with some difficult ethical and futuristic questions. At the same time it provides suspense and a fascinating and believable alternate world with some amazing technology. I can't wait for the writer to write the next book in the series!
I began reading Senthien and couldn’t put it down! A fast paced, fun book with interesting concepts. NS. Brown did an excellent job at forming an alternate universe far in the future, with layers that have only begun to be peeled back. The love story is kind of abrupt in the beginning but plays out well, and the characters come to life naturally. I can’t wait to continue this series to see what happens next and what more there is to be learned! An excellent adventure!
I didn't think it would be quite like what it was. I was pleasantly surprised it keeps you gripped, i wasn't expecting that at the end waw can't wait for the next book in the series.
A unique spin on time and space. A tad difficult to believe buildings can survive long gaps or time but look at history. Personalities and repression is as expected. Still human optimism prevails and in my opinion will continue to prevail.
**WARNING! Cliffhanger!** a life changing event at the end, not life threatening and more book hook than anything else.
Dora Dana Dasnan is a Senthien, a descendant of the human race who has visions of the future. But Dora isn’t like all the other Senthiens, so when an unusual vision threatens her life, a transporter glitch sending her to an unknown world seems like a gift…
This was an absorbing sci-fi story beginning. Dora is a fascinating person, her unique history making her extremely interesting. I don’t want to say a whole lot about the book because it is best when read without expectations! So I will just say that while the support characters are intriguing, it’s the evolution of Dana that interests the reader the most.
It’s a fantastic sci-fi read, well paced and beautifully written. Recommended for sci-fi fans.
Itis difficult for me to really decribe this book in a meaningful manner. I have read many Sf books but this one was vastly different. A person is incorre0ctly teleprted back to Earht after thousand of year. Of course she did not realize that it was Earth because she was led to believe that it was a dead planet. She was amazed to realize that it was for real and even met humans which made it more difficult for her to assimilate . She had had visions in the past of a male and she meets him which makes life more difficult for her. Should she remain or try to teleport back if possible. Well worth reading.
The Senthien is the first book in the "Descendants of Earth" series, written by Tara Jade Brown. This book is a perfect mixture of dystopia, sci-fi, fantasy, and romance. In this book, we follow Dana, who has the power to see visions of future events. Dana sees an unusual vision in which she sees herself sharing an intimate kiss with a human male.
How could this be true, especially when all humans are kept under surveillance on the concentration planet Zema4? Who was the human Dana saw in her vision? A porting error teleports Dana to a strange world; will she get some of the answers there?
This book is just perfect, from the first to the last page. The world-building is great, and I loved the combination of fast-paced storytelling and short chapters. Right from the beginning, I had so many questions carefully planted in my mind by the author through this amazing story. This kept me reading frantically. I was completely immersed in the story. I wanted to get all the answers, just like Dana.
This book combines many elements really well and presents a wonderful story. The story is set in a future where the Descendants rule and humans are kept under surveillance. There is an incredible amount of scientific advancement, and Dana is a visionary. The romance angle makes the book more interesting. I am so excited to read the second book! I highly recommend this book if you want to read a gripping trilogy.
☕️ Omgg, I love science fiction and fantasy and this book just blew my mind beyond I thought it would.
I couldn't put it down. It's a thrilling cyberpunk adventure that's equal parts social commentary and coming-of-age story. It's a testament to Tara’s talent that a world so fantastical can feel so deeply human. This is a book that will stay with you long after you turn the final page, forcing you to question what it means to be human in a world constantly reshaping itself.
The coming age story is filled with thrill and so much of adventure that after every bit I got excited to see what happens next, Dora is a very strong and unique character that is equally well built and sketched in a way that’s really appealing and I just wanted to continue the journey with her.
Also, the author’s imagination skills are out of the box, I certainly have read many stories of the coming age but never read something so unique and out of the box, I was flabbergasted by how it turned out and loved the plot as well.
At times, it did scare me thinking what if this was real, I mean yes it’s a fictional tale but definitely narrated in a way that will bring the story and characters to reality. It’s just the first one in the series, can’t wait to read the next one!
Hands down, I will definitely recommend it, it will surely open a new perspective and is equally adventurous, go for it.
The Senthien written by the author Tara Jade Brown is the first installment in the Descendants of Earth book series. The story is set in the future. The earth is dead. Terraformed planets are populated by Descendants. Humans are considered dangerous and are kept under high surveillance on Zema4.
Dora Dana Dasnan is a gifted Visionaire. Whenever she has a vision of a future, a report is sent to the race of Descendants authorities. Dora has been having a dream about a human who raised romantic sensations in her. Dora thinks of it as just a dream. She doesn't think it to be a vision.
When the Mind errors occurred, Zlathars wanted to interrogate Dora to see if the Mind errors are linked to Humans. Also, when Dora was researching APC chips, there was a power outage. Her father warned her of the danger. When Zlathars would connect with Dora's thoughts, they would get to know about her dreams of a Human. Dora and her father's life are in danger.
Read this story to know what happens next. Those who are interested in Artificial intelligence would have a great time reading this book. The author has a vivid imagination and has created a perfect AI controlled world. The writing style of the author is nice and I was able to follow this story easily. Go ahead with this without any second thoughts. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
So the main character has forced herself to be unemotional and detached for nearly 400 years. She finds herself transported to a now primitive Earth where her limited technology dramatically improves the settlements prospects. As unemotional and stilted as she is, she still somehow manages to fall in love, and somehow have a man fall in love with her, in like, a week. With zero chemistry. Like none. Basically Insta-love.
She accidentally brings back her man's former love interest, and he does pretty much what I expected from someone who falls in love in one week to do. He basically kicks his new lady to the curb saying he didn't want to let his old lady know about them. That's love huh? Gross.
And then this 400 year old woman has a tantrum and abandons a primitive human colony that was reliant on her tech and knowledge so that she can transport herself back into her society knowing it may be a death sentence. Like, why though?
End book.
The hell did I just read?!
I read this book with one huge eye roll after another. And then a huge cliffhanger. No thanks on the sequel.
This was so new and exciting for me I’m branching out this year in different genres and I loved this!!! I need the rest of the series asap the insta lust/love the great world building was a bit confusing to a new to the genre romance girl that loves fantasy but man once I was in it I couldn’t put it down! The end made me so mad and excited at the same time needing book two! I loved our mmc he was so understanding of the generation/different worlds that he helped her so much and she helped him! I don’t know how this will end but I need to find out I was not ready for the plot twist at all!
A very imaginative SciFi concept, wrapped in a fast-moving detailed story, tracing the passage of humanity from calamity to possible future outcomes, as seen through the eyes of the visionary female lead character. A trilogy that grips and entices the reader forward, from the complex opening events to the surprising, breathless finish. The Senthien is where the detailed foundation of the story is laid.
It would be great without the romance part and I'm said to say this since I love Romances :( I didn't like the way things were handle, besides the insta-love I can't give you any details without spoiler.
Interesting premise. Some sad parts. Happiness is fleeting. Liked the characters and interactions. The different species and potential political situations make for a bit of a cliffhanger ending. But still giving this a “more” rating.
Fantastic story with lovely characters. A complex universe with unusual aliens and human interactions. Can't explain it better than that but it is absolutely gripping.
