I love reading essay collections like this which serve as little time capsules of a critical era. It was almost nostalgic to read through the strongest essays of the New Historicist/Cultural Materialist movement.

“It is perhaps the fact that New Historicism, broadly defined, remains so central a factor in everyone else's agenda as a catalyst or point of departure which guarantees its continuing importance in Renaissance literary studies (and, increasingly, in the literary studies of other periods) for the forseeable future.” (p.225)

Yep. That sums it up really. In my own reading I can’t get away from the stuff. Idk what to tell you - Raymond Williams never misses.
