Detective Jericho #4

A Man's Partner

Rate this book
Jericho’s former partner, Mickey “Mouse’” Davis, with whom he worked in NYPD Homicide, is found dead in his car —killed by a single gunshot fired into his mouth. A handwritten suicide note is discovered beside him. NYPD declares Mouse’s death a suicide, but Jericho has his doubts. He leaves East Hampton and goes into the city to investigate. The New York cops tell Jericho to stay out of it, so Jericho must try to solve this case on his own.

As Sam Spade says in The Maltese Falcon “When a man’s partner is killed, he’s supposed to do something about it.”

A good read, not particularly my cup of tea, but a good read. It lacks intrigue and the interest wanes as there is nothing to get excited about. It is a story that could be taken from any of the many true police stories. Reading the ins and outs of detecting, picking up clues, etc. was good, if that is the sort of thing you like. If you do, I heartily recommend this book. To me, it was a let down from other Jericho books, which I thoroughly enjoyed. But, as I said, this one was not my cup of tea and I most likely will not be reading anything further in the Jericho series if they all read in this manner.

A very sad but exciting book!!!

Why would Jericho's old pardner Mouse commit suicide? What was going on in his life? Can Jericho find out the answers to these questions? How are things going with his new girlfriend, Rainbow? Find all the answers in this excellent book. Highly recommended.

One Brave Dude

Well written character with street sense and cop knowledge. Cops understand the bond with partners and this story touches on what a loss can create. The ultimate never give up on a gut feeling. Easy development without corn - enjoyable read

These two cops were formerly partners. One recently committed suicide. Or did he? His wife and sons are very upset, and his former partner knows he would never do that and decides to investigate on his own. What follows is pretty interesting. Read it.

Detective Jericho’s former partner from NYPD, Davis, was discovered dead in his car with a suicide note. Jericho refuses to believe this and so carries out his own investigation.
Another enjoyable story in this series.

Surprise

A great plot, strong characters, good forward movement...it a whole bunch of filler, i.e., On and on about location, history pet to necessary interesting knowledge. Thoroughly enjoyed a quick captivating read

A straight up page turner

Great story, echoes of Sam Spade and the Contemtal Ok. Great story of a detective working his former partners murder disguised as a suicide, with a whiff of abandoned spaces urban exploration for good measure

I like the series

I have been enjoying this series. I think this one was my favorite so far despite the death of a character I liked. Definitely worth reading these books. I'm onto #5 now.

Great book

This is a great read. It follows along with the series, except this time he is investigating the murder of a friend and former partner. Jericho is doing what he does well, even though he is investigating the murder of his former partner and very close friend.

Good read. Enjoyed it.

Gritty without being vile. Realistic. Worth your time.
Good NYC sights and sounds. Made me want to visit, but maybe not an abandoned subway station.

Depth

Jericho is all too human and I like that! We could all wish such perseverance and deductive capabilities were more prevalent.
