About the author

Ray E. Ashton, Jr. is a Senior Scientist and Ecologist with Water and Air Research, Inc. Gainsville, Florida. He has written numerous scientific and popular articles about reptiles and amphibians, particularly their behavior and the plight of threatened and endangered species. Patricia Sawyer Ashton's work as a botanical consultant at the Florida Museum of Natural History initiated her interest in herpetology. As an educator Ms. Ashton has written many articles and developed curriculum materials on natural and environmental education.
