Caldwell Family #2

Love Me As I Am

Every decision Renee Caldwell makes is for the good of her family's business, including the type of men she dates. Her current goal is to grow her image as a business leader by developing a prized piece of land in the Upstate of South Carolina. Her only obstacle is Jonathan Wright, a man who makes her want to forget all her long held dating requirements and experience the passion she's been afraid to dream about. If only he wasn't accusing her of stealing his inheritance. Jonathan Wright is no stranger to being written out of his grandfather's family tree. But when the house and land his grandmother promised him is sold to Renee Caldwell, he's ready to fight for what's his. What he isn't ready for is the feelings Renee stirs within him whenever they call a cease fire. As her icy shell melts away, he finds it hard to resist the caring woman behind the calculating veneer. Except the business driven beauty is the last woman he should trust with his heart. Their attraction is hard to deny, but neither is ready to make concessions on the land or for love. When their hearts are on the line the real choice becomes going for what they want or being open to accept the love they need.

Another awesome story in the dysfunctional Caldwell family. Renee is the niece of evil Curtis Caldwell. Curtis and Philip, Renee's father, are brothers who hate one another and will do ANYTHING to beat one another in business. Philip will just about sell his daughter to the highest bidder if it will help his development business and add to his wealth. But then Renee meets Jonathan, the rightful owner of the land her father is trying to buy through a dirty deal with Jonathan's racist and deceitful aunt. Will Phillip force Renee to choose family over true love? And more than that, will Renee allow him to? Please note the editing errors became quite annoying but the content was so good, I still gave the story 5 stars. Next time maybe not.

Great series!

I immediately started the second book in the series. I'm kicking myself for holding the books without reading them for so long. Renee and Jonathan's was just as wonderful. They had an instant attraction without knowing how they were affecting each other's lives. I like that Jonathan was a REAL man with standards on the way he treated others and lived his life. He's the product of an interracial marriage who's grandfather was a racist. A racist that refused to accept his grandchildren and would describe they by using derogatory words. Renee on the other hand had the love and acceptance from her family. Although that acceptance was based on her living her life in a way to advance the family company. This included dating the RIGHT type of man that would help the company in some way. Renee and Jonathan met before knowing they were adversaries. After fighting the attraction, Renee finally decided to go after a little happiness. In the process, she's betrayed by family which makes Jonathan feel betrayed by her. Betrayal by someone you love or trust is hurtful. We've all experienced this during our lives and had to overcome and continue living. The way Ms. Williams wrote their story is wonderful. This is a great series. Don't hesitate to buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Jonathan and Renee opposite side of the track

When it's right, it's right and when it's wrong it's wrong. Love is worth fighting for and worth each obstacles when both parties work toward the goal. The backstory of Renee and Jonathan's relationship, built off a family feud, was interesting. Especially since MiKayla had previously been seeking to pair the two. It is with adversity that you see Renee and Jonathan in different lights. You'll root for their success because of the compassion and passion.

Sweet Story

I enjoyed reading Renee and Jonathan's story. Renee was all business at first but she soon realized that there was more to life than business. Jonathan was sweet but didn't want to be hurt again so he guarded his heart from love. I'm glad these two figured out they loved and needed each other. I'm also glad Jonathan decided to sell his grandparents land after all, no need to keep something that holds bad unhappy memories.

Could almost live this....

Just like with Show Me How to Love, I thought this could have been a great book but I spent too much time trying to imagine what these people looked like. In both books, the author wanted me to build my own characters and that drives me crazy. I liked the book but found that there was too much for me to assume as a reader.

The Caldwell's are Extra

A few times in this story I wondered if the joke was on me. Renee and her crazy clan was just too much at times. It took a minute for Jonathan and Renee to find their groove, and I was so happy when they finally did.. I hope her brother didn't bite off more than he can chew.

Loving this series. The author writes realistic characters who are honest and mature. Will we get Jonathon's parents or his sister's back story?

Have mixed feeling about this book. I like both characters Renee and Jonathan but I’m not sure how much I like them together. Again this book gives me mixed feelings not like the first book.

I didn't enjoy this book at all
Unnecessarily dragged too
I believe all three books in the series could have been summed up shortly in one book...

Ms. Williams writes women in family business that come off as tough on the outside but really hurting on the inside. Renee reminds me of Elaina Robidoux in Careless Whispers (Jackson Falls Series) with the exception that Renee's father loves her but will not necessarily put her first especially where business is concerned. Her twin, Ryan is a hot mess. He's so hurt by life and family's obligations and expectations, he rebels like a teenager even though he's a grown man. He was not likeable and you don't feel compassion for his character. Redeem him Ms. Williams.

Overall, this was a story about family and racial reckoning. Jonathan wanted the Big House because it was promised to him by his white grandmother who was trying to atone for her husband's decision to disown their son for marrying a black woman. Jonathan's grandfather and aunt were bigots. I admired that due to love and understanding of the history of the property, Renee stood up to her family and for herself. Love is not about potential, its about your heart and fighting for each other. Renee and Jonathan finally understood that and found their HEA.

Good story and very enjoyable.

Another good read by Synithia Williams! I had actually forgotten about this series, but I'm glad it's back. So nice to catch up with Andre and Mikayla! And loved Renee and Jonathan! They are absolutely perfect for each other. Jonathon's back story was an interesting one, and felt very authentic. I loved that the author didn't sugar coat anything about how Jonathon's family felt about his parents relationship. I also liked that Jonathon was a regular, hard-working guy, with a regular job. The whole billionaire as hero has gotten a bit tiresome, IMO.

I didn't really care for Ryan in ether book. He's such a hot mess. Having said that, I can't wait to see how the author redeems him and makes me fall in love with him. Already eagerly looking forward to his story!

Keep the good stories coming, Ms. Williams!

Family

What we won't do for family, I felt so bad for Jonathan. Because his father married an African-American his grandfather called Jonathan and his sister every name except for the name their parents give them and would not allow them in the house. The author really brought out the pain Jonathan and his family felt. Renee sacrificed everything for her family it was all about the next big deal, do whatever you must, lie, make promises, marry without love just close the deal. I am glad that Renee decided to give Love a chance. This story has racism, lies, greed, Jonathan aunt Joanne trying to sell the big house behind Jonathan's back after his grandmother left it to him in her will. Wonderful story

As a family drama series goes, this installment in the Caldwell Family series was fantastic. We met Renee and Jonathon in the first book of the series and loved their roles. Being two totally different types of characters I did not think they would end up together. Like the first book with Andre, this book showed that as much as you love your family, you must love yourself more. What set this book apart was also how it dealt with southern racism, as it relates to interracial marriage.
