Life wasn't so great when you didn't have much of a relationship with your parents or the ability to play street games while growing up in the fifties. You would rather be secluded in your lonely room, using your imagination to write stories and draw comic books than to be drowned in negativity by your mother or humiliated by your peers. All of this can change for Jimmy Ya ...more

My Lonely Room is a good book that keeps the reader’s attention at all times. You always want to know what happens next. It is hard to put this book down. This book gives you an insight on what it’s like to like to live in the ‘50s in New York City.
This story takes place in a crowded neighborhood. The main character and narrator is Jimmy Yadenik, age 12. At the beginning of the story, Jimmy is trying to find his place in the world. He deals with bullying, which prevents him from playing with th

My Lonely Room is a great book. When I first read the title of the book I thought the book was going to be boring, but I was wrong. This book is about a boy named Jimmy Yadenik who is trying to fit in, in the world. He is antisocial and gets bullied. Through it all Jimmy doesn't have someone to encourage him. Jimmy experiences loss, love, and friendship. He begins to get involved with gangs. When Jimmy begins to stand up for himself, he grows into a better person. What I like about this book is ...more

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy of My Lonely Room through the publisher and Netgalley:

Jimmy is growing up in the fifties, a boy who is not popular amongst his peers and doesn't have much of a relationship with his parents. He would rather spend his time in his room working on his comics or writings.

Jimmy can't understand why his parents let the landlord pick on them.

Jimmy meets

I loved this book. It takes place in the early fifties in the City. I really felt I was transported back in time and got a glance of my parents growing up years in Queens New York. It is about a young boy struggling to find himself while his parents ignore him and the other kids don't want to play with him. He spent a lot of time in his room drawing. It is a easy read, after all, we all have a lonely room whether in our minds or place.

A very good "read"

The book is very well written and holds your interest. Each of us contains a little of "Jimmy" in our past. This book vividly brings those memories back. I certainly recommend reading it.

My lonely room is quite the excellent story. The story begins with a twelve year old boy who’s comfort zone is his own bedroom. He wants to experience the world and leave his bedroom but he suffers from social anxiety and therefore doesn’t. It’s hard to leave something that you are so familiar with and go into the unknown. Instead if leaving his room interacting with other children, he spends his time alone in his room writings stories and drawing comics. He then later on in the story comes out ...more

Everyone has a "comfort zone." It is a place where you can go when you don’t want to deal with the world. Your comfort zone could be a person. It can be inside the fictional world of a book. If you’re James “Jimmy” Yadenik, your comfort zone is probably your own bedroom. In John.
