A very short and decent follow-up to the reboot movie. It's focused on the town picking up the pieces (literally) after the massive battle that took place. There is a very short-lived villain that crops up, but almost immediately disposed of. The story feels like the beginning of a story; it ends before it ever gets a chance to take off. Not sure of the intent for this graphic novel. Recommended for MMPR fanatics only.

this could've been better. i enjoyed the parts where the rangers weren't rangers. stayed true the movie personalities. movie needs a sequel. parts of this would work. i was pleasently surprised that trini and kim actually looked like trini and kim

Similarly to how I felt about the movie, this was just okay. I felt like the character changes in the movie were somewhat ignored in here, which is what I would actually prefer, but Parrott gets his chance with these characters again later and he does a MUCH better job with a fresh start for them.

I was a fan of the original MMPR back as a kid, but I really didn't like the new movie version of the old heroes. Nevertheless, when I saw there was a follow-up graphic novel I could read for free on Comixology, I took the plunge.

Good stuff: Some of the art is pretty impressive. Some of the one-liners are fairly funny. Sets up things for future drama and interest. I liked the giant version of the bad guy.

Dumb stuff: Some of the events don't make any sense. Early on the rangers rescue some people from a vehicle that starts to tip over a cliff. In one panel it looks like they pulled the car back fully onto solid ground to get the people to safety. In the next, the car is falling off the cliff as if the rangers just kicked it off. Then somehow the pink ranger finds a tube we have never seen before to swing and catch the dad. It was so awkward. The new monsters are boring, being just humans with Goldar/putty gunk stuck to them, so it is hard to understand why the rangers have trouble dealing with them. A big theme of the story is about the red ranger Jason learning to become a good leader, and there is some buildup to his big plan to defeat the bad guys. But his plan is never explained--apparently it was just "turn into the Megazord." The preview issue of the normal series took up about a third of the entire comic book, and was better by far than the main story.

Sigh.

After reading several other Power Rangers graphic novel collections at the library, I got this one out. Halfway through, I realized it was set after the movie... that I hadn't yet seen. So I put the book on hold. A few days ago, I finally watched the movie and then picked the book up again and started it from the beginning. It was FAR less confused this time around and really enjoyed it.

It did a good job portraying the aftermath of a devastating fight--what happened to the town, what happened to the people, and what happened to the remains of the destroyed bad guy. It also did an excellent job of showing how the characters dealt with what they had become. They're just teens and they saved the world. But they're also still figuring out their powers and how to work as a team. There's a lot still that they need to learn, but they're all dealing. I love that. So we got the human drama and also some action as well. My favorite moment was when Billy saved them all with a "Triangle of Life!" call and Trini's response, after they all managed not to die, was something like "I don't know what the heck that triangle thing was, but I love it."

What I didn't like was that the story was only half of the volume. The rest of the volume was issues from the comic I'd already read. I don't mind a teaser issue at the end, even if it's out of order for me. But half the book? That just seems lazy. I would have liked more with these new rangers.

After reading the newest Power Rangers stories, this was just okay.

This is the followup after the movie that came out a few years ago. I really enjoyed that movie and this was a decent followup. We have the rangers learning to work together, taking care of left over clay monsters, and facing off against two new villains. It's a run of the mil story but it helps to be attached to the characters if seen the movie.

Nothing amazing and art sometimes is murky and not all that interesting to look at but power rangers will enjoy. The two newer series are way better though. This is a 3 out of 5.

This wasn't supposed to be out till next week, but I chanced upon it at a store which had it out already. Yes, I bought it. Yes, I am sucker.

Anyways, this isn't a great comic, but it isn't bad. The main story is set after the upcoming film (there are no real spoilers for the film here that one couldn't guess), and is a serviceable tale of the young heroes still adjusting to their new responsibilities. The rest of the book is the first issue of the ongoing MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER EANGERS comic, which is set in an alt reality version of the original series where a) the story is happening now, and b) sets out to capture the spirit of the old show while significantly improving on its storytelling. It is a great comic, but it is available as part of a larger trade if you really want to check out that series.

I haven't seen the new Power Rangers movie that came out so I was intrigued to read this and I actually liked it. Their new suits are really bright and shiny and I feel like they come with more technology advances than the older suits in the other series. It's action packed and the art is bright and colorful. I didn't realize this actually takes part after the movie so maybe if I see the movie and reread this I would be less confused. There were a couple times where I was confused, but I kept on reading anyway, so despite that, it was still enjoyable to read.

Really fun read, I didn't know what to expect when I first picked this one up but it was written very well and reminded me of the things I love about Power Rangers. I was happy to see some love shown to the 2017 film with this sequel comic and was happy with the story overall. Wish we could've seen more of the characters at times that I feel are more sidelined but it was a very well done graphic novel. I want to definitely explore more Power Ranger stories in the future after now reading this graphic novel.

This was a fun continuation of the film. Probably won't ever see any more, unfortunately. Would have been nice if they could continue the story of this team in more comics, but that's unlikely.

Not bad. This is a sequel to the movie, and is handled quite well. I'm not sure if this story will be incorporated into the movies, however. It was a quick read, and after seeing the movie, I was really into the characters. This book also lets Trini and Zach have a little bit of a spotlight, which I felt they were lacking in the film.

Four stars because while I didn't think it was stellar, I did find it enjoyable, and I can see myself reading this graphic novel again.

Cuz it's pretty much guaranteed a sequel to the 2017 movie ain't happening, this is pretty much the last whispers of a dead iteration of the franchise.
So even after double-slapping a green alien witch to the moon, some of her magic remained and continues to make more abominable golem critters for the Rangers to fight. In a much more Western-body-horror genre move, but old hat for us veteran Toku fans, some of that putty goop attaches itself to some teenage delinquents to make an actual threat for the teenagers with attitude to pummel. Speaking of the intrinsic angst of the film it inspired, lotsa the internal problems that encompass the teen heroes is the imposter syndrome and they have to rely on each other to get through it all.
Just in time for a NOT-S.H.I.E.L.D. to close the book by saying they're "keeping an eye on them."
*shrugs*
The world will never know what that means.

Not bad at all! Especially if you are as addicted to the movie as I am, this is a nice little novella-ish sequel. I didn't really need the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Prequel and Chapter 1 in the end, because that's like a different universe now, but I still enjoyed the gist of it.

While I loved the movie. This little story is just an okay continuation of the story.

I guess it was just to plant some seeds for the next movies, which were sadly canceled :(

Anyway. I don’t like the art here and the story is too short to begin to enjoy it.

Not a great comic, but not the worst either. The coloring was a little confusing at times. The story was pretty simple and straight-forward. Overall it was good.

As a follow up to the recently released movie, Aftershock is a great snapshot of the immediate aftermath of the film. However, it is truly a SNAPSHOT because this graphic novel is exceedingly short. Only two-thirds of the book is actually the Aftershock story, and it leaves off on a cliffhanger to boot. The actual story is an excellent addition to the Power Rangers reboot, but I was very disappointed with the overall length and additional arcs in this edition.

As good or better than the film

This tie in comic has but one clear reason to exist: answering audience questions about how the city would cope with all the damage depicted in the film's climax. A lesser question answered is how the monsters would function in this world, which runs on very different logic from the show. It has a very simple foil too: the Rangers, given their own personal tragedies, could have turned out a lot worse. The new villains show that in ways Rita in the film couldn't. The film hints a future with Tommy in it. This gives the Rangers something to do until then. It could lead to an entire series happening between films, which is critical if Saban wants to stay competitive against Marvel. How the town reacts to Rangers being in it also reveals that this is definitely a world modeled after today, as opposed to an idealized 1990s. A good read, especially if you saw the film and were left hungry for more.

Closer to 3.5 stars, BUT if you liked the movie you will definitely like this. The story is pretty good, and builds on some of the characterizations that were established in the film. I was glad that, with regards to Jason, they showed that being a leader isn't just throwing around orders but supporting and helping your whole team. After all, he's the mom friend. The downside is that it's shorter than I would've hoped - the entire movie story could probably fit into three regular sized issues. Then the rest of the story is essentially the first two or three issues of the Mighty Morphin Boom! Comic, which I've already read. I think the latter half is simply a waste of space because of it.

This comic shows the aftermath of the events shown in the new Power Rangers movie. The Rangers are helping with the lingering effects of Rita's Goldar monster. Angel Grove is dealing with the massive demolition of the city.

A frown came to my face when I saw the zords on their own. I was hoping the Megazord would be stuck together for any potential future films. There isn't much added in this comic than what was in the movie. I'm sure it was being written while the movie was still going through the editing process because some of the characters didn't quite feel the same as their movie counterparts. There's also an odd emphasis on romantic and gender jokes.

If you liked the movie, this comic will bring you back into the universe of the newest Power Rangers, but it's not as good as the other BOOM! comics. The ongoing Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series is a must read! This comic is also pretty short. The first volume of the ongoing series is included in the back as a preview and takes up about a third of the book. I give Aftershock a 3.5/5.

Bland filler story to follow the movie. This is a franchise with massive potential and they're squandering it.
