Turning Wheels

Sophie All I did was try to help my best friend escape her abusive boyfriend. And for that I ended up in a wheelchair. Life's no longer worth living. No man will want me now. Then I find my nightmare is only beginning when Ethan wants me as leverage to get his woman back. I end up under the protection of the Satan's Devils, an outlaw motorcycle club in Arizona. The woman I was would have been in her element among a group of handsome, rugged bikers; the disabled woman I am now feels scared and vulnerable, and soon I find this isn't the safest place to hide. But with a contract out on me, there's nowhere else for me to go. There's one reason for me to stay, the VP of the Satan's Devils who teaches me to feel like a whole woman again. Wraith She doesn't fit into our world. Fuck, even if she wasn't in that damn wheelchair she'd be out of her element. But as soon as I saw her something attracted me to her. From the start I wanted her, but she thinks she's undesirable and is scared of taking a man to her bed as though her disability defines who she is. I'm going to need to teach her she's wrong. But before I can take my chance everything goes to shit. She's under our protection, but we fail to protect her from one of our own.

About the author

Manda Mellett

58 books341 followers
Manda’s life's always seemed a bit weird, starting with a childhood that even today she’s still trying to make sense of, then losing her parents in the late teens. Going from the tragic to the bizarre, who else could be unlucky enough to have had two car accidents, neither her fault, one involving a nun, and another involving a police woman?

There isn’t enough space to list everything that’s happened to Manda, or what she’s learned from it. But by using the rich fabric of her personal life, psychology degree, varied work experiences, and amazing characters she’s met, Manda is able to populate her books with believable in-depth characters and enjoys pitting them against situations which challenge them. Her books are full of suspense, twists and turns and the unexpected.

Manda lives in the beautiful countryside of Essex in the UK, the area’s claim to fame being the Wilkin’s Jam Factory at nearby Tiptree. She can usually find jars of jam which remind her of home wherever she goes. As well as writing books and reading, Manda loves walking her dogs and keeping fit. She lives with her husband of over 30 years, who, along with her son, is her greatest fan and supporter.

Manda is thankful that one of the more unusual, and at the time unpleasant, turns her life took, now enables her to spend her time writing. Confirming, in her view, every cloud has a silver lining.

First book I've read by Manda Mellett and I really enjoyed it. It's been a while since the last time I've read a Motorcycle Club related book with such length and that it was actually worth my time. I liked Sophie and Wraith. Their story had the right amount of violence, heartbreak, hope, steam and spice!

This one was kind of a miss for me and I am not entirely sure why.

Two points I want to make...

1. The random threesome. I understood the purpose, I understand what it did to help Sophie, I understand the point to it in the grand scheme of the story. I DID NOT LIKE IT. Totally personal preference, but I just don't like it....ever.

2. Manda named one of her characters Horse and gave him a dead wife named Marie. A DEAD WIFE NAMED MARIE. Oh hell, no, you can't do that. I am making the assumption that neither Manda nor her Satan's Devils are in any way related to Joanna Wylde's Reapers, but you can't do that. Joanna's Horse and Marie have a special place in my heart and as soon as I saw that in this book, no, no and f*cking NO.

I was positively surprised with this series.
I read the second book first and I went back to the first to better understand the universe created by the author.
Our heroine suffers an attack and loses a leg and gets the other very injured leaving her in a wheelchair. To help her best friend to get rid of an abusive relationship she becomes target of revenge of the abuser.
She loses all confidence in her as a woman and thinks her life is over. She imagines that by losing her leg the reasons for living are over and that she became a cripple.
With the help of the motorcycle club that the hero is vice president she starts her recovery.
I think the story was realistic to portray depression and insecurity that a person who has a serious accident can face.
Our heroine finds herself helpless on several occasions and without knowing how to fit the new reality.
The relationship of the Heroes was intense and she ended up discovering that the right person will accept defects and qualities regardless of the lack of a leg but the feelings the person evokes.
About the threesome scene I think the hero entrusted in his best friend to restore the self-esteem of heroin and was successful at it. I was curious about Red and would like a story about him.
In the story had more action, sex scenes, club whores craving become old ladies, brotherhood, loyalty, evil villains, club enemies and good secondary characters.
I'm going to have to read the story about Zoe.
Recommend!

"Soph, you’re a beautiful and desirable woman. I’ve said that, and Red has shown you too. Now are you going to fuckin’ believe it? ‘Cos I’m tellin’ you now, ain’t gonna let any other brother into our bed to get the message into your head.”

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. This is a new author for me, so I never know what to expect. I enjoyed the plot. There were some places that I had trouble believing it to be "real", but the story still kept my interest throughout the book. The characters were well done, the only thing I wish is that there was more about Wraith's background and name.

This book was so unique and heartbreaking went through so many emotions while reading this theirs happy , sad , angry , and steamy moments I love to fell while I'm reading a book and this author hit every check mark on my list and a plus I live in Arizona . Both Sophie and Wraith amazing leads I also love the secondary characters that are in the Mc and also Horse the parts that he's in I just fell for him he and Peg have to be my favorite secondary characters . The H has everything that hits my button when it comes to a lead he's protective , alpha , awesome ,patient and lets not forget HOT dirty talker "fans self" . Then the h I loved her from the first page and to see someone do something so selfless and then get paid back in a awful way just wanted to give her a big hug and help her any way I could we also see her blossom through out the book and become her old self . The chemistry is off the charts hot once Wraith makes hes feelings known there is no stopping him . We also get some bad guys and a sweet butt who try's to cause problems with the new couple . I hope there is going to more books for these characters would love to see some of these guys get there happy ending . copy provided for honest review

Wow what a story!!

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and let me tell you it definitely won’t be the last!! This book had me gripped from the very start and if life hadn’t got in the way, I would have read it in one sitting. I love a good MC read and this one doesn’t disappoint at all.

Sophie captivated me from the very start and I fell in love with her character, and with the determination she had in her...she made me love her all the more. Now add in Waith and WOW....he is HOT as hell!! These two are meant to be together but with such turn of events that happen, their relationship is put to the test.

This story not only pulls at your heartstrings at times, it also made me laugh at some parts. The whole story is gripping and has you on the edge of your seat. Parts of it I didn’t see coming.

Hands down an amazing read and I can’t wait to read more in this series. Definitely a 5 ⭐️ and one I will be recommending to everyone. Onto the next one now.

My rating: 3 stars.

What I liked: I really liked how we got to read about the h and her struggles of being in a wheelchair. I felt the author did a really good job with the whole ordeal.

What I didn’t like: I didn’t like how this author kills off characters that I liked. I also didn’t like how it felt rushed at the end. I wanted to see them finally get to go sight seeing with them married with kids.

How hot was it: 3 out 5

Triggers: Violence (that causes the h to be in a wheelchair, the deaths of two prospects and ow that causes issues which they kill) Also, H allows his friend to join him and the h during one sex scene.

Final thoughts: This was my first book from Manda Mellett and it was an ok read for me. I don’t know if I will read the next one in this series but I will definitely read her friends story.

I am new to this author. I read the blurb to this book and decided to give her a try. I am so glad I had now. This first book in her series had me glued to it from the start to end.

Wraith is the VP to the club. He like most of his brothers is not looking for a old lady.

Sophie is dealing with an injury from a hit and run. Her life is more turned up side down when Horse is sent by her friend Zoe to protect her from Zoe's crazy ex.

Taken to the club she learns to adapt, learns to deal with her physical injuries. The men of the club are alpha's and protective as she learns.

Who pushes Wraith to give in to his desires for Sophie? Who threatens the club and woman they are protecting? To find the answers you have to read. 5 star read and a suggest to give this author a try.

Okay

This was one of those intense books where it takes a while to get going but I did like it just a little slow for me. I didn't get the whole three way in the middle when it was good without that thrown in the mix. I felt sorry for Adam and Hank funny ending just pleased for them all

Strong Females and Secure Males

Dear Goddess, how I love Sophie (Wheels) and Wraith! He gives her enough security and confidence to keep trying, and she gives him the wildness that is her true self. The cast of characters is awesome and I cannot wait to read them all.

As someone who is a Brit and disabled, a lover of MC fiction and an avid reader, this was probably always going to be a hit for me. When the writer started talking about how people talk over the top of the head, down to, or very slowly to people in wheelchairs I knew I’d like this writer.

The author really nailed it on the head when the character goes through depression and insecurity about her role in life and her sexuality. The disability angle of this character isn’t everything, by far, but it is dealt with in a matter of fact and sympathetic way which is unusual in a romance book, doubly so in an MC romance book.

Sophie, the disabled person I was just talking about, is a fully fleshed out character. At the start of the book we see her as a bubbly and sexually adventurous woman who never wants to be tied down to one man. When she helps a friend try to leave her very powerful and rich boyfriend, she is mowed down and backed over by a car, leaving her with half her leg missing and the other leg badly scarred and damaged. She is wheelchair bound when her life is invaded by Horse, who the abused friend has asked to keep Sophie safe. He ends up whisking her away to stay with an MC in Arizona. Once there, the VP of the MC, Wraith, is smitten instantly with Sophie, but everyone is told to stay away by the president. We slowly watch as both Sophie and Wraith initially fight their attraction to each other.

It’s a ridiculous premise for a book, but it works really well because the characters are well rounded. If you take out the fact that a fashion buyer from the UK is running from a bounty placed by a British gentleman, and then ends up with an MC in Arizona, it’s totally believable.

Loved it!

I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. So well written with so much intrigue, twists and turns and lots of love. I definitely have added Manda Mellet to my favorite authors lost and bought the next book in the series and ready to start reading. I don't like to divulge any of a books specifics as many do because they tend to post too much and spoil the plot, but I will say you won't be disappointed in reading this book.

Turning Wheels is the first book in Satan’s Devils MC Series by Manda Mellett. This is the book that started it all. I remember coming into the series on book six, not sure what to expect or if I would even like the book, as I wasn’t a huge fan of MC series. But boy did I change my mind quite quickly. I enjoyed it so much that I went back and got the previous five books to consume, too… and so started my Manda Mellett addiction.
I have read every one of her books now and have found that I can always count on her to spin an enthralling read. Recently, the earlier books in the series popped up on my recommended book feed, sparking pleasant memories that were spent between these pages, prompting me to read them all over again. I am happy to say that I have enjoyed going back to the beginning of this series just as much as I did the first time around.
This story really tugged at my heartstrings. Meeting Sophie and discovering everything she’d been through, how much her disability eroded her confidence and sense of self, made my heart ache for her. I wasn’t sure to begin with that Wraith would be the right ‘one’ for her- but he soon changed my mind. Then add in the danger, tension, suspense, and chemistry! Bam- we have a heart-pounding read!
If you love a really beautifully written, riveting MC story- with complex, quirky and loveable characters, sizzling scenes, overcoming adversity, all wrapped within an original plot- then this is definitely a book you won’t want to miss. Be warned though, you may discover that one of Ms. Mellett’s addictive books may not be enough!

Thank you, Ms. Mellett!

Great Read

I really enjoyed this book so much so I couldn't put it down until I had finished it. I was pulled into the story right from the beginning, watching it play out in my head as I read the words written on the pages.
Twists, turns and surprises await you within the pages of this book, oh boy what surprises you have waiting for you.
Manda Mellett is a new author for me, but am so pleased I read it, I will be getting the rest of this series.
I highly recommend this book.

This is an amazing MC romance! Wraith is the VP of the Satan's Devils, a MC club mostly on the right side of the law. He rolls through life without any attachments. Sophie comes into his world in order to escape the horror that is her world. Crippled by a madman, stuck in a wheelchair she thinks there is no way she can ever be the woman she once was. Thrown together, Wraith suddenly sees that an attachment to Sophie is exactly what he wants. But that madman is still after Sophie and he will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Will Wraith and Sophie survive the onslaught or will Wraith be riding solo?

I loved this book! Sophie is an amazing character, a woman who has lived her life on her terms. Then fate pulls the rug out from under her and she shuts down. Wraith is a badass biker with no reason to change his ways, screwing whoever takes his fancy. Together they are an awesome combination. Manda Mellett kicks ass and these MC boys don't pull any punches. She has the talent to write realistically about disabilities with compassion and heart. I cannot recommend this series enough! If you like gritty MC romances with heart and seriously hot passion, you need to get a hold of the Satan's Devils MC.

This was a great storyline! I absolutely loved it. The characters were well defined and well written. Nothing like a little "pond crossing" to bring a group of bikers a little drama and a whole lot of action, both outside of the camp and inside the bedroom! Holy hotness, his name is Wraith and he is every woman's wet dream. Not only hot to look at, a total master in the bedroom, total Alpha male, he is also a hidden gem in that he doesn't see Sophie as a broken, damaged woman, he sees her as a beautiful woman who stirs something inside of him that he just can't seem to understand but he knows that she will be his. He just needs to take his time and help her to see that she is more than she believes herself to be. With a little help from one of his brothers, she begins to realize that what she perceives him to see is not at all what he truly sees. Then there is the danger that she is in from the ex-boyfriend of her best friend; the one who put her in the condition she is in now and in the predicament she now finds herself in. Scared, seeming alone and very far from her home. She's thrust into the compound of a real MC for her protection, hoping that the evil that she fled from will not follow her. She slowly begins to retain her confidence and begins to stand on her own two feet, literally, when all hell breaks loose and throws not only her but the entire MC into chaos.

This is a great story, entertaining, thrilling, saddening, and hot as hell. My only "bad critique" would be some editing issues, which made me stumble a few times in my reading, however if this issue is fixed this book will be outstanding. I still highly recommend this book.

I love MC novels, so I jumped at the chance to Beta read Turning Wheels. The story snagged my attention from the very beginning, I couldn’t put it down until I got to the end. This is my first read by author Manda Mellett and it will not be my last!

Turning Wheels is action packed, romantic, suspenseful and fun. The characters are well developed and the chemistry between the MC’s, Wraith and Sophie, is undeniable! The hero, Wraith, is everything you want in a badass alpha biker, he’s strong, protective, patient and loyal, and he has a kind heart underneath. In the beginning, the heroine, Sophie, feels like her life is no longer worth living, I loved watching her grow and regain her confidence.

If you’re into sexy and entertaining MC romance novels, give Turning Wheels a shot. I can’t wait for what comes next in this series!

Turning Wheels is the first book I have read by Mellett. I like her writing style, the story flowed from beginning to end.
This is an MC romance and Mellett does a great job with Satan's Devils. They are a rough, alpha, hot bikers. This is the VP's Wraiths story and his lady interest Sophie. They come together when Sophie is at her lowest and Wraith will be the one to show her that she is beautiful and desirable.
Turning Wheels is fast paced, intense, will bring tears to your eyes and laughter in your heart.
I can't wait to read what this author does next with this series.

I love the idea of doing a spin off for blood brothers. Sometimes I can be a bit wery to if the spin off is really going to be a spin off or just the same story told between someone else. Well I was wrong. The idea of taking a character who yes was important in the blood brothers but opening up more about her and what happened to her is a wonderful idea.

Well now we get to meet the Satan's Devils and boy who doesn't love a MC.

The author I believe can take any situation and write about it. We have gone from the desert to a motorcycle gang, and each book is unique and amazing.

Can't wait to see who else Manda writes about and what their story is going to be like!!

Oh I love a good mc and this was like something I’ve never read before. Fantastic. Loved it all. I’ve also never read a book by this author either. A mistake I’ve just rectified by adding to my TBR list.
I adore wraith and the boys. And despite Sophie initially irritating me win her negativity, tho understandably why, I’ve grown to love her immensely. Just a character.
This story packs all sorts of emotions and also shows that with the right determination positivity outweighs negativity. A must read.

I felt for Sophie, she had some serious hard knocks in her life, and then to loose all she had would have dragged anybody down. So glad Horse helped her out a complete stranger. I laughed and I cried while reading this book. Took me a little bit to get through the start but then when they get to the MC it was a very entertaining and enjoyable read.
