Jeez I read this book so long ago! It opens with the protagonist, a young woman(I forget her name)in her mental insitution. Is she crazy? her daughter asks her. In order to answer this question, she goes back to high school, where, pregnant and abandoned by her boyfriend, she marries her now husband, Djibril, a young successful muslim. As the years pass, she faces her in-laws, and raises their kids in apparent happiness. Until a secret of incest and infidelity drives her into insanity.

I am not a great reviewer, but this is a good book. It can get long and be quite a mouthful at times, but it's a good book. Read it.
