Pharmaceutical company CEO Jules Cambridge has received some threatening letters. The board of directors enlists Wingman Security to provide protection, and her bodyguard turns out to be Royce Morgan, a lover from eight years ago. Their relationship ended unexpectedly when Jules married somebody else.
Royce has made something of himself since his relationship with Jules ended. He's determined to do this job right. But there are things Jules is keeping from him. Namely, part of the reason she is in Vegas for a conference is because it's where a young woman, Charity, lives, who Jules believes is her half-sister, a product of her father's affair. As for Royce, he must figure out, are the threats simply someone mad at the pharmaceutical company, or is related to something much closer to home?
This was really good! My expectations get lowered with Romantic Suspense entries when I read too many slapdash Colton-related stories. I worry I'm too harsh on some category books, but then something like this comes along to remind me how good some of them can be!
This one establishes its suspense and mystery well. Key to this is the uncertainty as to who Charity really is. Is she an innocent unaware of her connection to Jules, or has she got some sort of ulterior motive going on? The mystery builds slowly but surely. This one actually has a lot of nifty plot surprises up its sleeve, many of which I didn't see coming. All sorts of events from the past link up to what is happening in the present. You can tell this was a carefully plotted story!
And the romance works, too! Beverly Long actually takes time out to give us flashbacks to Jules and Royce's romance from eight years ago and how they grew so close. I understood what they felt for each other, and time is taken to reveal the reasons behind why they broke up, AND why things happened the way they did. Who would have thought? As a bonus, the dialogue is lively, natural and realistic. Royce and Jules came across as real people and I liked them both.
By the end, I wanted more! This was a well constructed, suspenseful story with some good plot twists and a believable second-chance romance. Recommended.

this book is really easy read. it holds your interest and is full of action thru out. the story has a lot of mysteries. the characters are good too. they are not what they seem to be. it is a good lead in to book two in the series. can not wait to read the third book.

Royce never expected the next time he saw Jules, she would need his help saving her life. But she is in need of security, and has called the firm he works for and he is the one for the job.
Has been 8 years, since she left him and married someone else, single now. Can he keep his feeling for under control and keep Jules safe?

This is one of my favorite authors! She nailed it in her first romantic suspense. Many nights I stayed up way past my bedtime 'cause I couldn't wait to get to the end! The reader was kept in suspense throughout the story and I would highly recommend this to everyone!

Amazing
Long writes incredible heroes. They are cool, yet very masculine. There's no toxicity. The sex scenes in this book were hot. The mystery was unhinging. And the romance was swoon worthy. I look forward to reading more of her works.

Loved this story. The characters are well developed and the plot and timing of this story kept me involved.
