Содержание книги интересно и познавательно, но осознать его в полной мере не получается, потому что, во-первых, очень сильно ощущение, что переводили Google Translate и только потом исправляли (раз в 2 страницы попадаются несогласованные по числу, роду или падежу словосочетания). Во-вторых, судя по всему, и корректор работал в спешке, раз мелких опечаток вроде пробела между словом и знаком препинания после него, пропуска букв, отсутствия точки в конце предложения и так далее несколько десятков (я дотошна, но не настолько, чтобы их считать).
Названия фирм вроде Sony и Philips переведены на русский и напечатаны без кавычек, например. Ещё в какой-то момент в книге появился "таинственный" персонаж Джордж Гамов, непривычный русскому уху (хотя и правомочный), а вслед за ним и географические локации типа Тиберио Маунт (по-русски).
Знаю, что книгу переиздали в 2014 году (у меня редакция 2011-го). Отчаянно надеюсь на то, что всё вышеперечисленное в ней исправили. А то ведь это позор для издательства Физтеха.

An eye-opening account of the laser, a technological marvel that people tend to take for granted nowadays. I agree with the author that the laser is a solution in search of new problems to solve, given how extraordinarily useful it is.
