Not So Perfect Christmas Eves #1

Due vigilie di Natale disastrose

Rate this book

I tipsily misread the title as "Two Ruined Christmas Elves" and that is why I ordered it.

This is perfectly fine short story about two men who are both having a lousy day and decide to improve it with a hook-up. The hook-up is hot, they decide they would like to see each other again. There is not space for a lot of character or relationship development, but both guys seemed decent and like they were compatible. It was sweet that the heavy metal fan was there taking his grandparents to the folk music festival. It was nice that they had no issue with him being gay. It's only coincidentally Christmas Eve, there isn't much sense that the holiday is important except in that having a bad holiday is sadder than having a bad regular day.

I'm still disappointed about the lack of elves.
Can someone write that for me?

I've always been immensely impress by authors who can WOW me in the space of a short story. It's sorta like meeting someone for 30 minutes and falling in love rather than hating them. Ms. McHart did not disappoint! This short (34 page) story was quite simply amazing, not only did I totally get sold on both Jonas and Fritz as full-fledged persons, I was totally in love with them by the end. What a totally awesome, sexy and lovable couple they make. This story packs way more punch than I was expecting, it is beautifully written and I was so immersed I could almost feel the snow! will definitely be finding what more the author has written and reading it! Just a wonderful, magical, heartwarming and hot story!

Two Ruined Christmas Eves was the first story I read by Chris McHart and I have to say I was pleasurable surprised. I love Christmas books, shorts as this one (just 31 pages) or longer ones. The blurb tells you pretty much everything apart that this short was really cute, it was simple and light especially in the way Jonas and Fritz liked each other at first sight and acted on their attraction with no drama and an easiness hard to find around. And this made the book no less real than others. Of course I would have liked a little more development in the MCs relationship but being so short it was an okay read. And what I love the most was the epilogue, the author did great with it, showing me the couple one Christmas later. Overall a pretty satisfing reading.

The cover art by Chris McHart is very nice and it fits the short perfectly.

Slightly off-the-wall Christmas hook-up story. There's not quite enough to get to properly know the two MCs, which is fine, as they feel the same way about each other. My impression from the blurb was that this was about two musos from different backgrounds - I misunderstood, but it didn't matter. The author is bilingual (at least), and English is not their first language, but they write very well in their dialect, and I enjoy this aspect of author voice.

Two Ruined Christmas Eves was exactly the type of holiday cuteness I needed. Fritz and Jonas were absolutely adorable. Jonas was a bit of an introvert but he was also pretty forward with Fritz so it was interesting to see a character with that type of personality combo. He was a little complex and that brought an extra dimension to the story.

Fritz reminded me a little bit of a gentle giant. He might have looked like he could crush your skull but he was more likely to make you a flower crown and play big spoon. He was exactly perfect for Jonas.

They took their time, kissed and flirted, and simply enjoyed the foreplay. This wasn’t the necessary stuff before the actual fucking; this was sex already.

I remember this book as mostly being cute and fluffy even though it does get quite explicit at times. It was just the right balance of romance and fluff without the length of a typical novel.

Fritz’s complete hatred of folk music was absolutely hilarious! He acted like being at that concert with his grandparents was the worst thing to happen to him all year, and yet, he ended up falling for Jonas. And despite his own feelings on the subject, he was extremely supportive of Jonas’ career.

The first tones sounded through the studio, and Fritz clenched his teeth… He’d sit through this evening for Jonas.

For a short story, this book had quite a bit packed into it. It was easy to follow and I didn’t feel like anything was left out or cut off too early. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a cute and fluffy novel to fill you with a little Christmas spirit.

It was a perfect Christmas Eve… because of Jonas.

This is a lovely no angst Christmas short story. It's well written and the characters are easy to like.
Jonas is going to be late do a gig because of the snow worst Christmas eve ever! When he gets there the show is over the organisers are furious and his manager is disappointed with him. Jonas has to go to the after show party to try and make up for his late arrival. He usually loves these things but he's under pressure to make amends. When he spots a guy who doesn't fit in Jonas wants to know more.
Fritz would rather be anywhere else than here. His parents got tickets for this folk music show for his grandparents but when they realise they can't take them it's up to Fritz to take them. Fritz will do anything for his grandparents which is why he is here listening to folk music which he hates. When he meets the man that enters the party late he hopes this may just get better. They arrange to meet in Fritz hotel room but when Jonas isn't there by midnight Fritz thinks it isn't going to happen until he is woken up by the knock on the door. As they get to know each other they realise this may turn out to be the best Christmas eve not the worst.
If you like a sweet romance then this is the book for you and I recommend you give it a read.

Two Ruined Christmas Eves is the first book in the Not So Perfect Christmas Eves series by Chris McHart. It's a quick but highly entertaining tale that is perfect for the holiday season.

Fritz, a Rock/Metsl music fan is dragged to a Folk music event in Germany with his grandparents. His reaction is funny and relateable... the memories of being dragged by family to places you would rather NOT be. But at least it leads to something much more interesting for him.

Jonas, a folk musician, misses his chance to play the festival by being stuck in horrible traffic. I couldn't help but feel bad for him... this could gave been a great gig for him. But when he meets Fritz at the after party, I couldn't help but smile.

They have an instant connection that leads to what they think will be a one night fling. But soon they know it cant be just a one off. These two characters are likeable with a funny, quick and sweet story.

I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.

A super short but enjoyable holiday read. The book is set at a folk music concert in Germany where Jonas seems to be experiencing Murphy's Law on the day that was supposed to be his big break. Fritz is there for his grandparents despite his preference for heavy metal music over folk. The connection between the guys sparks fast and is acted upon with minimal conflict or antagonism. I enjoyed the epilogue checking in on the characters a year after they met. It's quick, it's cheery, it's Christmasy, and you need to check it out.

Short and Steamy. The perfect meet-cute!

Very talented writing by Chris, with the ability to set a perfect scene with so few words. This is a very short story about two unlikely partners meeting for the first time. While its lust at first sight, Jonas and Fritz’s connection grows quickly and this story is just a taste for the start of their love story. Beautiful, concise and sexy, a wonderful taste of their romance and a great setup for more stories to come.

Thanks for reading 📚!

so i totally read these out of order.. i thought because the one was one then the other was two.. haha my own fault however that being said.. reading them out of order didnt matter. i just assumed this was the prequel to explain these two and how they came to be.. it was so sweet and short. very good story.. i like how he didnt try to change who he was and what he liked just because he fell in love with someone opposite himself. very good story.

This is a very quick and hot Christmas story that I enjoyed. I like the characters and the storyline but I wish there was more of a connection between Fritz and Jonas. There just isn't enough time in such a short story to get to know the characters. I like the ending and I look forward to reading more about Fritz and Jonas in the next book.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

So sweet.

This was such a sweet Christmas read. Fritz and Jonas sparked from the start. You know it's love when they sit through what they hate for you. The author held true with what to expect at a folk concert during the holidays. Not only with the traditional attire but with the decor as well. I can't wait to read the next one.

A sweet story, but I would have liked a bit more actual story. Perhaps after their night and before the wrap up chapter at the end. And the first few pages could have been written in a few paragraphs and still made the point :)

I did really like that their music preferences were a non-issue.

It was sweet and short - and that was what I was looking for!

Cute very short little romance about two guys who meet at a German folk music festival. Yes it was short and needed much more story, but I loved Jonas and Fritz. Both go after what they want and connect in a big way after what should be a one night stand but realize there are feelings there. Enjoyed this little short and this author's words.

I’m not very often a fan of novellas as I tend to think they don’t deliver the sense of expectation and then fulfilment I hope for in my romance reads.

This was pleasant but not amazing imo. I didn’t get the sense of any real connection between the MCs.

This book is short but doesn’t skip a beat. Jonas and Fritz are two opposites, and it’s plain to see that opposites truly do attract. I loved it
