I'm a romance writer, currently traveling the world, seeing all that it has to offer, and probably drinking a little too much wine.

I like striking stories. Romances, UF, PNR. Stories about men that move you, heroines with spines of steel, and villains that make your bones quake. Add in some sexual heat and a HEA, and that's what I try to provide.

I loved how crazy the H was for the h. He was all about keeping her with him. Not a fan of the amount of drinking in this story. I was a little turned off by the restaurant bathroom scene. Nevertheless, this story had a great H.

Connor Halloran is a hitman for the MacCailins, an Irish mob family in Boston. He is exceptionally good at his job & is considered part of the family by the patriarch Lochlan. While on an assignment to take out a nosy city council work, Connor meets Evelyn Thompson at a fancy bar opening. It turns out Evelyn is meeting the very same city council worker for a story she hoped to write for the Boston Times where she works. Connor & Evelyn flirt with one another before she goes off to talk with her source. When Evelyn's meeting with her source is finished she remembers to ask him another question & follows him out when he leaves the bar. She ends up in an alley witnessing Connor murdering the source. Connor against his better judgement takes Evelyn home because he just can't find it in himself to kill her. Connor & Evelyn are drawn to one another even though both of their better judgements tell them it is not a good idea. The attraction grows until it becomes more than either of them can ignore. Connor struggles with his feeling for Evelyn & his loyalty to his mob family. Evelyn struggles with her need to be independent & her continued desire to be with Connor. When they finally admit their true feelings for one another, Evelyn hears a news story that makes her realize she can no longer hide from what Connor does. She makes a rash decision that could destroy everything. Will Evelyn & Connor make it through everything alive? Will Connor be able to forgive Evelyn for what she has done? Will Evelyn & Connor ever be able to reconcile?

His Captive is a great bad boy romance complete with a mob hitman who wants the girl & will do what he has to get her. This story worked for me because there is a lot of conflict between the main characters even though they want to be together. The story is set up about trusting one another & when they see that there is trust they look past what may be obstacles keeping them apart. I enjoyed this read a lot & will be looking forward to reading more by Zahra Girard. This book is meant for matures readers.

DNF @ 6% - apparently the most interesting thing about this hero is his dick. And if you aren’t sure, he’ll definitely tell you all about it. 😵‍💫🙄

This was my first book by this author and I really liked her writing. This story was super sexy & had a lot of action!!

Connor is a sexy hit man for the Irish mob & Evelyn is a sassy reporter that he hits on before he sees who she's at the bar to meet. After Evelyn witnesses something she REALLY shouldn't have Connor takes her back to his place and vows to protect her at any and all costs.

Connor is aware that the info she has will likely get them both killed now that he has taken her as his but, only her safety matters. In the end Connor gave up everything to keep his promise that she would be safe.

The chemistry between these two is off the charts and undeniable. And they really brought different aspects out in the other that was for the better.

I was given a ARC copy of this book for a honest review

I received an ARC of this book for a voluntary review and I have to say I loved it.  This book was filled with action both in and out of the bedroom.  It made me want to fall for a bad boy myself.  I can't wait to read more from this author!

His whisky gal

I have read this book before, but forgot to leave a review. So I read it again. I loved Connor, even though he was a hired gun, he was witty, rough and ready. Willing to go all out for his gal. Evelyn was a little unsure in my eyes. Trying to make it as a journalist but still trying to provide for her family. The two are choas and excitement but the Irish mob doesn't like them together. Great story, there were a few spelling errors in the book, but that didn't take anything away from the story.

The book is good!! Really really good and I had great time reading it. There were a few scenes that bothered and overwhelmed me, like the restaurant scene, and because of that the book getting only 4 stars and not five. But honestly those scenes was a small part and almost insignificant in the book. The book is awesome. The story is beautiful. The hero is very protective and possessive as I like. I really enjoyed this.

This book is about a lovestory between an American reporter and Irish mafia. The stroy begins with Irish mafia Conner killing reporter Evelyn's client in front of her and taking her home with him to save her. How funny! He says he won't kill her, he says to trust him,he will save her life and the girl believed him.
Evelyn was Conners captive. He took her to his neighbours birthday party and everywhere. Made love, fell in love with each other in spite of knowing that they are dangerous for each other.
Conner loves Evelyn as much as he loves his mafia family and when they would get to know about Evelyn they will kill her. He does all sorts of killing at the orders from his adopted mafia father.
So,when Evelyn got to know that Conner killed a high school innocent kid in the hospital she posted on Boston Times news paper (where she works) about all the bad deads Conner and his family did. This puts Evelyn on deep danger and she was given order to get murdered. Conner thought she betrayed her and she had thought Conner betrayed her. But as he loves her he went against his family to save her life.

That was the whole story. Why I rated point one star you're thinking? The writing lacked. The narration from Conner' point of view was really bad. The writing, world building, character development wasn't good. The whole main story takes place at the end of the book. Before that, everything was full of romance like Fifty Shades. When Conner was risking his life to save Evelyn, she ran away like a selfish girl from Boston to Massachusetts not even thinking, caring if he was alive. I think the author realised that she was making her character selfish and then she switched her character to selfless mode.

I didn't like the story cause I didn't feel anything for the characters, I couldn't get lost in the book. I couldn't feel the pain the author was trying to show. In a few words the book lacked everything. This is a series of I don't know how many books but I don't intend to continue about Conner and Evelyn.

This was so different from the book I was expecting - never judge a book by it's cover! It is really well written, very enjoyable, fast paced, gritty and believable. There are plenty of twists and turns in this story, I almost skipped to the last few pages as I really wasn't convinced whether the heroine would get a HEA. It am stingy with my 5 star reviews - the book really has to play with my emotions to achieve that. This does pass the acid test of 'would I buy other books by this author?' which would be a resounding yes.

Connor is quite an arrogant a** at first, but as he gets to know Evelyn, and we get to know him, he matures and develops into a much more likeable character. This isn't to say the author is inconsistent in how she portrays Connor, we just see him grow up a little bit. Evelyn as a down to earth and very likeable heroine and I liked the fact that she didn't accept the mafia side of Connor's life. I have read some mafia romance books where you wonder how the heroine can bare to be in the same room as the 'hero' (who is anything but a hero). Zahra Girard did an excellent job of portraying all the facets of Connor's character so that we could find things to like about him.

There are hot sex scenes in the book, but they are a part of the story rather than the whole plot line. There is so much more to this book than sex and the mafia. There is a well written plot, good dialogue and likeable characters all wrapped up in an easy to read book.

This is the second book I have read by Zahra Girard, this one was a big hit for me! Connor is this ruthless killer for the mob, after a man who has information that is damaging to his boss/family, while waiting on his target to arrive at a high class bar he meets Evelyn, immediately he is fascinated with her and the connection is electric, too bad she is a reporter is ends up being there to talk to the target. Evelyn is just as intrigued by Connor, but has a job on the line, after talking to her informant she goes to find Connor sees him walking out, she follows him, next thing she knows he has killed her informant and she's the only witness, life just got messy.
So I have read many stories like these in the past, what I feel separates it from the others is the amount of detail, you really get to know these two,
and while they have some hot sex, the whole book is not just sex scenes, there is actually a real emotional and dramatic storyline mixed in as well!
IMO a great mafia read I am happy to have had the chance to read, and will be adding to my read again section!
I look forward to what this author comes up with next!!

Evelyn is a reporter that just covers City Council meetings. She is wanting to write a bigger story. She gets a strange call for her to meet someone at a bar to get the scoop on a big story involving the MacCailin family. After meeting her source, he gives her a thumb drive, and leaves. Before meeting with her source, he meets a very good looking guy that buys her a drink.
Connor is a hitman for the MacCailin family. They took him in when he was younger and now he is their to go man when they needed someone to die with their secrets. He goes to the bar to follow a leak that the “family” wants dead. While waiting at the bar he sees a woman that he wants to get to know more but she is meeting with his next victim. He doesn’t count on Evelyn following him into the alley where he shoots his victim leaving her as a witness. Instead of shooting her he decides to make her his own and hold her hostage.
This is a great HEA book. A must read to see how Connor keeps safe from his “family” and make her his own.
This is the first book that I have read of Zahra Girard and I voluntary read this book for an honest review. I will be reading more of her books.

I received an ARC copy in return for an honest review.

This is my first book by Zahra and I absoutely loved it! I read it in a one day sitting (it took me a while because I had a migraine but I got sucked into the story line that I had to keep pushing through.) I also did not want to see it end because I fell in love with both characters.

First and foremost it's an Irish Mafia story. Mafia books are at the top of my favorite type. Who doesn't love a bad boy mafia man who is demanding and knows what he wants?

The 2 main characters are Evelyn and Connor. Evelyn is a struggling reporter who ends up with a story dealing with the MacaCailin crime family and that is who Connor belongs to. He takes her captive to protect her but it all goes to hell when she sees a news report one night and thinks he's not a good guy at heart. Is their love strong enough to make it through? Or will they die?

His Captive is a great read. It has everything you want in a mafia story; lots of hot sex, fighting, and a hot hero who might just save the day.

Evelyn is an aspiring journalist ever searching for that great story that will skyrocket her career. She receives an anonymous tip from a whistleblower that will take down the Irish mob. In a clandestine meeting in a dark, out of the way bar, Evelyn receives the needed information. Moments after the man leaves the bar, Evelyn blunders onto the scene of the man's execution by the Irish Hitman, Connor. Because of an unfortunate attraction to Evelyn, Connor cannot bring himself to eliminate her too. So he takes her home. At this point, one is sucked in to the impossible situation of Connor & Evelyn. Despite his occupation, Connor truly has a heart of gold. Plenty of Mafia actions with shootouts, scary situations, tense standoffs and lots of heat within the sheets to entertain. Excellent story, well written. I  voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Five stars.

I was pleased with the way this story ended. Connor was a tough guy and knew it, and he wore that toughness like a cloak. His arrogance put me off a little in the beginning, but after meeting Evelyn and taking her, he starts to come around and make himself a better man. This book had more going on than expected - besides the mafia action, there was intrigue, lust and love, and surprisingly good emotional triggers. I loved how Evelyn wasn't an annoying and pesky as a writer (the way her type of character can be sometimes in these types of stories). There were good steamy scenes to round out this well written mafia romance.

Connor and Evelyn make a great couple.
Connor is a hired gunman for the mob and Evelyn is a reporter. They meet at a bar the night Connor was sent to do a job and the job is a guy that Evelyn is getting information from about his organization. She witnessed the murder and instead of Connor killing her like her should he takes her captive. The story goes from there.
The book gets steamy and dirty, also there is some emotional moments in there to that plays on your heart strings.
I'll definitely be reading more books by this author!

Just barely OK

## The 4 and 5 star reviews perplex me. 2.5 stars is all I could manage. Jeez, all this hero did was kill and sleep around. I detest reading about heroes ban*ing countless women. Strippers and dancers in bathrooms, multiple women at a time, even married women. And even his neighbors hear him and his women having sex every night. Bleh. Such a turn off for me. And the heroine was supposed to be so smart but she did some really stupid things. Sorry, I can't recommend.

I’m all about the Irish mafia, but not this book. The major plot of the book happened at the end. The female is a reporter and male is a hit man and he kidnaps her. They have sex, he takes her around his mob family (like they wouldn’t know she was a reporter) and they’re falling in love. Then she finds something out and puts him and his family in the news and he’s sent to kill her. THATS when the story begins. At like 80%.
The writing was shit too. I’m only giving it a star because of the cover and I’m in a good mood.

This is my first book I read from Zahra Girard and I can honestly say she has a new fan. "His Captive" is beautiful written and has you turning the pages quickly to find out what happens next. Conner and Evelyn are both interesting characters. With Evelyn being a reporter and Conner being a hit man for the mob. They fall hard for each other and when everything hits the fan will Conner choose his mob family or Evelyn.

This book had a lot going for it. Mafia, humor, a sizzling connection of characters, action, danger and most of all an H who puts his woman above all others. Can't help but love this misguided hitman. This was an enjoyable read. I received a copy of this book for honest review with no obligations.

I enjoyed this book. It was by first book by Zahara Girard and I will definitely read more of her books. This book had it all, murder, mafia, suspense, laughter and love and most importantly and what I loved most was that it showed how a man should always put the woman he loves first! Definitely recommend reading this one.

His Captive is written by Zahra Girard. Connor is a hitman for the Irish mafia in Boston. He's good... really good at his job. An alpha male and he wants Evelyn. He should kill her, but he wants her more. This was a roller coaster of a ride in reading this story with a great happy ending!

It was a good book, not a great book I guess I was a little disappointed because the title makes it sound like it was going to be darker but it was more of a cute captive, I enjoyed it but there wasn't much darkness to it which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. It was still a great read and would recommend it to others.
