A neat bag of tricks
A great collection of short stories. They are witty and dark in equal measure, with shades of Ramsey Campbell, Robert Aickman and the 80s TV anthology Tales of the Unexpected. Highlights include The Black Beast, the text messaging of Villa Certosa, The Day I Killed Baudrillard, Golf and the episodic Turnstile- a chilling tale delivered across several genres. There's a lot to enjoy here so get stuck in! ...more

Terrific collection. Dark, disturbing - and often very funny. The author has an amazing range of voices and tones, and depicts successfully a number of very different settings. Not a book if you are looking for something cheery or consoling but definitely one to get if you want to be gripped and shaken. The humour is perhaps what makes the stories bearable. Don't miss this.
