Pablo et la chaise

Pour son anniversaire, Pablo reçoit une chaise. Fâché, il s’enferme dans sa chambre avec son cadeau, bien décidé à ne pas s’asseoir dessus. À la fin de la journée, il est funambule-de-dossier-de-chaise. La chaise sous son bras, Pablo part à la découverte du monde. Dans chaque ville où il s’arrête, son numéro d’équilibriste fait fureur. Il se produira dans les plus prestigieux théâtres et visitera les endroits les plus incroyables de la planète. Mais un jour, la chaise sur son dos, il reprendra le chemin de la maison… Ce texte d’une grande finesse nous apprend que « ne pas tenir en place » peut signifier avoir du talent, et qu’il faut parfois partir loin des siens pour vraiment grandir. Encore une fois, Delphine Perret nous livre une histoire pleine de simplicité aux lectures multiples.

About the author

Delphine Perret is a French author and illustrator best known for her contributions to contemporary children’s literature. Born in 1980, she studied visual communication before graduating from the École des Arts décoratifs de Strasbourg with a focus on illustration. Her debut book, Tout neuf !, was published in 2002 by L'Atelier du poisson soluble and immediately established her distinctive style—witty, poetic, and pared down in both text and visuals.
Over the years, Perret has developed a wide-ranging and award-winning body of work that includes original stories and collaborations with other writers. Her notable creations include Moi, le loup et les chocos, Bigoudi, Lettres à plumes et à poils, and the Björn series, featuring a gentle and thoughtful bear navigating the joys of everyday life. These stories blur the boundaries between picture book, short story, and graphic novel, and are acclaimed for their humor, tenderness, and subtle depth. Björn, six histoires d’ours received the Pépite de l’album in 2016 and the Prix Sorcières in 2017.
Perret’s illustrations have accompanied the work of authors such as Colas Gutman, Oscar Brenifier, and Roland Garrigue, and her books have been widely translated and recognized internationally, including selections for the IBBY Honour List. Several of her titles are part of the “Bibliothèque idéale” curated by the Centre national de la littérature pour la jeunesse (BnF), affirming her enduring impact on French youth literature.
Beyond books, she has participated in international artist residencies and exhibitions across Europe. Whether exploring themes of childhood, emotion, or quiet adventure, Delphine Perret brings a singular voice to children’s publishing—one that invites readers young and old to slow down, observe closely, and appreciate life’s simple wonders.

This is a cute story that captures imagination and adventure upon the receipt of a chair. Once Pablo gets the chair for his birthday he is quite upset, but then he goes on an adventure and when he comes home he is able to share all his tales. A wonderful story that will cause any child to think on the bright side and find happiness even when first disappointed.

An odd but delightful book. Very original and creative, which also inspires the reader in that direction. Pablo is a very likeable hero whose family, not fame, gives him dimension.
