The Long Road Home

Rate this book
For a limited time- includes a Bonus Copy of Maverick (Satan's Fury MC, #1)

From the USA Today and New York Times best seller, L. Wilder comes a Holiday Novella from the bestselling Devil Chaser's Series.

Gavin always thought he'd find his home with his brother at the Satan's Fury Clubhouse, but soon learned that fate had other plans. It wasn't until he found himself in Tennessee prospecting for the Devil Chasers MC that he found what he'd been looking for. His days were often long and unforgiving, but everything he'd wanted seemed to be within his reach... including Sunny Jacobs.

He wanted her - the girl with the long, auburn hair and gorgeous brown eyes that drove him wild, but it wasn't that easy. The woman who haunted his dreams was under club protection, and it was his job to watch over her and protect her. Until he got his patch, she was off-limits. But he was patient. A girl like Sunny was worth waiting for.

Sunny Jacobs was working hard to get her life back on track after barely surviving a night from hell with her ex. The Devil Chasers MC had taken her in and protected her while she picked up the pieces. With her deranged ex-boyfriend still missing, she couldn't shake her nightmares... even with someone as handsome and mysterious as Gavin around.

Would Gavin's love be strong enough to calm the storm raging inside Sunny, or was the long road too treacherous for them to make it home?

For those that loved the Devil Chaser's Series, here is your chance to come back home and visit with your old favorites. While The Long Road Home is part of a series, it may be read as a standalone romance. The book includes a HEA with no cheating. Who wrote this book? It was written differently than all her other books and it SUCKED! I hate when books are writing in third person all knowing because it is information overload and you have trouble keeping up with who's POV you are in at any point.

Anyway, way to NA for me. Liked catching up with the other couple, but NOT in this writing style. The central MCs were not a compelling couple at all.\

I'm a huge Leslie Wilder fan and her Devil Chaser's MC series is one of my favorites. I was so happy to be able to take a trip back to Paris TN to spend some time with the boys. This novella is the love story of newly patched in member Gavin and Sunny. Gavin is the brother of Maverick (from Satan's Fury), and Sunny is a friend of the club and like family to Bishop.

Just out of a toxic relationship, Sunny was brutally attacked and hasn't recalled all the details yet. While she heals, emotionally and physically, she's staying as a guest of the Devil Chaser's at the clubhouse under their protection. I loved how these bikers took this young woman in giving her a sanctuary of safety and friendship so she could get back on her feet.

Gavin was a prospect when Sunny was attacked and moved into the clubhouse. Dealing with his own demons, Gavin knew he wanted her, but he was smart, biding his time until she was ready and he was a full patch member to pursue her. It was the right thing to do for both of them, and I loved how he looked after - and pined for - her quietly from afar.

Wilder's biker stories always convey a strong sense of loyalty and family, and that was definitely a big part of this book. This was a well written, sweet and sexy story of healing, patience and friendship growing into love.

I had some trouble reading this book. While I was reading it, I felt like I was missing something, even if I've read the previous books in the Devil Chaser's MC series. It was a nice short story to pass your time. The writing style was quite different compared to the previous books. I believe that I should have read "Maverick" before reading this one.

NOTE: After reading Maverick, I recommend to read it before you proceed with this book. The dots are now connected.

I seriously am in love with all of the Devil Chaser's MC brothers and have always had a soft spot for Gavin after he gave up JW to have a home with two solid parents. This book takes a man who has been on his own and lonely to a degree and gives him yet another reason to have hope for the future... in the form of sweet and vulnerable (but with an edge) Sunny, who has had a really rough past of her own.
Secrets, lies and trust play big roles in this book but after all the truths come to light, it is obvious there is so much love and respect in the Devil Chaser's MC for each other and for those they call "family" as well.
A must read, must have for readers who have been following this series and if you haven't read Leslie Wilder's work...please start from the beginning to follow all of the guys and their storylines to better understand how they all got to be where they are in this book.

When I found out that Leslie Wilder was writing a new addition to her Devil Chaser's MC series, I was so excited. What a perfect title too. Heading back to to Tennessee to visit Bishop, Bull, Shepp, and the rest of the MC felt, well, like going home.

This installment revolves around Gavin, who is Maverick's younger brother, and Sunny, who has taken up residence at the clubhouse for her own protection.

For those of you who are fans of the DC's MC series, you'll remember that Gavin gave up JW so he could have a better life with Goliath and Lily caring for him. Gavin keeps himself busy now that he's prospecting for the club and working on classic cars and whatnot with his brothers. I can't imagine how Gavin must have felt giving up his son, although, knowing that John Warren is so loved must give him a certain degree of peace.

Sunny Jacobs is a really likable character. I say that with confidence, because considering the amount of MC romance books that I consume, eight times out of ten, I usually can't stand the female lead. This poor girl has literally gone through hell. The fact that she's alive and going to college is a testament to the amount of strength she possesses, coupled with the support of Bishop, the club's president, who is like a father to her—let me just share that I'm madly in love with that man.

Gavin and Sunny clearly have a thing for each other. Until Gavin becomes a patched member, there's no way in hell he'll be pursuing Sunny. It's fun to watch them dance around each other without being able to actually do anything about it. There's also the fact that these two are pretty young. There's something so tender and vulnerable about the both of them, individually. They each have had more than their share of the darker side of life than most young twenty-something year olds. I'd say the biggest reason they'd never lose their way is because of the support of the entire MC. They take care of what is theirs. The bond of trust and loyalty is, at all times, stronger than most blood-related families. It reminds me of the phrase—it takes a village.

Throughout the entire book, there's a constant flow of running into all of our old friends. Like all of Leslie's stories, there's plenty of twists and turns, sexy escapades, and heartfelt, painful moments. Gavin and Sunny's story is no exception, although I will say that Sunny's past ordeal was QUITE intense. True to the title of this book, and to their rough journey to get to where they needed to be, it really was a Long Road Home. Five, we made it! Stars ~ a must read for all the fans of the Devil Chaser's MC. Another brilliant job by Leslie Wilder.

My favorite L. Wilder book to date. The trauma that Sunny went through that changed her path, was rough. I felt it as I was reading. Thank goodness for the loving family she has and the men at The Devil Chasers MC to help protect her and keep her safe. Gavin, God i loved Gavin. While hes prospecting for the Devil Chasers, he knows Sunny is off limits, but that dosent stop him from secretly keeping an eye on her and keeping his distance at same time. Sunny only takes this as he dosent like her, but that is far from the truth. I loved that we got a chance to catch up with the other members and what is going on in their lives!!! I loved this series!!!!

My favorite passage was this...

“There’s no telling what I said to him,” Sunny laughed. “I asked him later what you’d said.” Bishop walked over next to her and placed his hand on her shoulder. “You told him, it’s not the fall that defines you, but the shots you make once you get up. So, Sunny… I’d say it’s time for you to pick yourself up, and take your shot.”

I was very disappointed in this book. Mostly I hated that I could never really figure out which character was talking when. I love when I read multiple characters that speak throughout a book, even enemies. What I don’t particularly like is when one character starts a paragraph & another is mixed in within the same paragraph. Again I had a hard time figuring who I was listening to. I felt like it was a narrator most of the time & not the characters themselves. I’m already used to this author constantly writing their characters via 3rd person but due to the fact I enjoy the story I’m able to get past that. Not this time. I am dyslexic & usually have to reread stuff on the regular. So when I have to do it more than I usually do I usually just quit. But I really do love these characters!! I wouldn’t mind a story about Katlyn, Conor & or Levi. That definitely would be interesting to see play out.

My, My , My ..what to write about this little diddy. First off Gavin *swoon*, he is just everything you want. Sweet, caring, knows how to get things done, and knows when and when not to intervene. Poor Sunny, that girl has been through the ringer, but can only remember parts of it. This story wasn't all about them, it had you catching up with the guys and their ol'ladies. It had you celebrating , and cheering on the good guys while you boo and hiss the bad. The ending of " what really happen" was a shocker to me. I will admit I was thinking something different. Over all this was a well written, sweet, sexy, catching up, showing you that everyone has a strong side.

I love both series the Devil Chasers and Satan's Fury MC. I was glade to go back to see Bishop and the boys. Sunny has had a rough time of it and after Bishop let her move into the clubhouse so she would feel safe she is getting better. Gavin has feelings for Sunny doing all the small things for her to make sure she is ok, Gavin swears once he gets his Devil Chasers patch he will make Sunny his.I would recommend this book to all who love MC romance books. Another amazing book written by Leslie Wilder can't wait to see who's up next.

Junk,junk,junk,

Poorly written. He said, she said, then she said, then he said then they said . After a while you are wondering who said what and why the author couldn't find a different way to convey this. I found the writing very amateurish.
Like this was a first-time book instead of a seasoned writer. Also this short story contains another book MAVERICK which you may have already read. Save your money on this one. It stinks.

It seems like forever since we caught up with the Devil Chasers MC. This quick read focuses on Gavin and Sunny. After surviving an assault a year ago, Sunny still struggles to put that terrible night behind her. Gavin is patiently waiting on the sidelines for both his patch and the woman he loves. Will the past return to haunt them or will their dreams come true?

I didn't like how almost every paragraph was told from a different characters point of view. It really made it feel like it wasn't Sunny and Gavin's story. Plus there really wasn't that much time spent telling their story.

Did I miss something

I read all the DC books. How is it that JW has a different biological father. And being shot twice in the chest to once. Felt like someone else wrote this book and didn't do the research. I did however like the story. But not as much as the previous books.

A story of survival

While this could be read as a stand-alone, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend it be read in series order for maximum reader satisfaction. There are multiple reoccurring characters from the previous stories, consecutive timelines, and overarching themes.

** If you have not read any of the previous stories in the series, the following may contain spoilers. Also there are scenes that may be difficult for sensitive readers. Examples are listed below. **

I really loved this story and wanted to give it 5 stars, but there were teasers about Gavin’s past in the previous stories that haven’t been answered. Why did he leave the other club? Why did he decide to let another couple raise and adopt his son? Why was he beat up when he dropped him back by their house with his decision? In this story, Gavin mentions that he hopes Sunny can understand why he let someone else adopt his son when she learned of his reasons. ALL OF THESE TEASERS, but no details were provided.

Otherwise, this is one of the best edited stories, grammatically, that I have read in a long time. I am a visual reader, meaning that I visualize the story as a movie in my mind as I read it. When errors in timelines, character attributes, grammar, etc. occur, it disrupts the flow for me. I only had that happen one time in this story, towards the end, and it was incorrect punctuation (apostrophe iso quotation marks).

What happens?
Gavin is in love with Sunny but giving her time to heal after a very bad and abusive relationship.
Sunny is confused with why everyone else is so friendly but Gavin is so aloof and reserved around her but goes out of his way to do nice things for her.
Final thoughts
This wasn't written in the same way the other books in the series are. Its not as good and this just felt like a book the author didn't connect with and just wrote to finish it off. Gavin didn't get as good a chemistry between them and there wasn't a heck of a lot of drama; not that that is bad.

Wow! I don't know where to begin. I loved this book so much! Getting to see my guys again made my day! If you haven't read the Devil Chasers series then you are missing out. Each book is better than the last, and this one is no different. Gavin, like the others, is tough but has a heart of gold. He sets his eyes on Sunny and there is nothing that will stop him from claiming her. I don't want to give too much away. Just know you can read this one on its on without missing out. But grab the others, too. You won't regret it.

I hope we will get more from Katelyn with Conner and Levi. That will be a hot one!! And Bull. Please give us more Bull. And Satan's Fury. I need Big's book now. ☺️

I liked this novella. Can be read as standalone but it has a lot of secondary characters from the Devil Chaser's MC series. Having read all the previous books in this series I loved reading about how all the previous characters are doing. I hope this series continues because I would love to read more. Gavin is a prospect for the MC and is crushing big time on Sunny, who is under the clubs protection after a brutal attack from her ex. Sunny was left for dead a year ago and is still trying to put her life back together. She is still having nightmares of the night she still can't remember. Gavin is sweet, protective, and super patient.

Another great addiction to the Devil Chaser’s MC Series! Gavin aka Knuckles and Sunny’s story was sweet, sexy, and will keep you turning the pages. The story line was kept me guessing and waiting to see what would happen next.
Although, I must say I will be waiting around hoping Katelyn, Levi and Conner get there story’s told as well! Am over hear left in suspense about what did and or is happening with these guys! Bull as well, I would love to see him get a book of his own! But enough about that.

If you are looking for a short, easy read and love MC stories, I recommend picking this book and/or series up! The Devil Chaser’s MC will not leave you disappointed!

Sweet story of Sunny who survives a near-death beating by her ex and Gavin, MC prospect who is waiting until he's patched in before claiming her.

No cheating, ow/om drama. Just a sweet story about two lovely people. There is a twist that I didn't see coming but it's nothing that interferes with the story. Just some information about an earlier event.

Spoiler*********************************
h's friend has a threesome with two of the club members that seems to be a set up for future book ménage. It happens off page.

"It's not the fall that defines you, but the shots you make once you get up."

🥰 Just like the rest of this series, this book was great. I read the Satan's Fury MC series first and wanted to know how Gavin's story would turn out and I finally got to it. I loved everything about it, Gavin's patience and his knowing Sunny needed time to get over what had happened to her. And Sunny's resilience for everything she had been through. I can't get over how much I LOVE this book and L. Wilder in general!!! Now I need Katelynn and Levi and Conner's story!!! Please!!!

After agreeing with Goliath and Lily he’d be part of his son’s life with them, Gavin decided to pledge to the Devil Chasers and could finally let sweet Sunny Jacobs know how he felt. Sunny’s had a rough year, attacked and badly beaten by her ex then blocking the memory, panic attacks with unknown triggers. A random act triggers the memories to flood back.

This outing didn’t appeal to my taste on multiple levels’ it felt contrary to what’s come before; the story/plot was much too light and’ the leads were charmless but that is all one reader’s opinion.

A good book...

Well written and enjoyable. The characters were developed and intertwined beautifully. My only issue with this story is the holiday Gavin surprised Sunny with. One paragraph stated it was Barbados and the following said Jamaica. So which island was it? Also, there was not much discussion about Gavins' son John Warren. Why is that? We already knew that JW is his son. It was a shame that this wasn't given a mention.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this series.

Story is written in all the characters we have meet along the way POV. So each character we have meet will have a random thought or POV about what's happening in the story or their life. Found it great to read and all the different POV. You probably needed to have read Maverick story to know that he wasn't JW's dad that Gavin was, but either way I thought that part was clear enough even if you hadn't read Maverick.

Great!

I chose this rating because this was a really great book. I enjoyed all the characters. This was a book of compassion, trusting, and just being there when you need someone. Sunny was going through a tough time at one point in her life. But Gavin was a real great friend to her. And as you know they became more than friends. This is a really great book. I enjoyed it overall. I recommend this book to all romance and MC lovers.

Loved it

This series is absolutely amazing. The up, down, twist, turns, brotherhood, family, loyalty and love these men and women have for one another is truly amazing. Gavin was able to find peace with decisions he made in his life. Sunny is truly a strong women given the tragic event she had been through. These two make each other better people and they truly love one another. I can't wait to see what the future holds for them all.

The Long Road Home by L Wilder is book six in the author's Devil Chaser's MC Series and I recommend to read the bopoks in order. There are cross-overs that make it difficult to follow the storyline when you don't know what happened before.
The Long Road Home is Sunny and Gavin's raw and gritty story. The book was an ok read for me. I didn't care much for Sunny in the previous books and that didn't change in these. The writing is good and I liked Gavin's character. I give 3,5 stars.
