1) In regards to grammar, it's incredibly easy to understand because Milner writes in simple English.

2) To anybody who wishes to read this book, I suggest you re-read 'Hikayat Pahang' first: a significant portion of the book is spent analysing this hikayat.

3) The other significant portion of the book is spent analysing 'Hikayat Deli' so if you can, read that as well (I can't remember if we read this in SPM).

Pada 2019 saya telah membaca buku bertajuk "Bangsa Melayu" yang ditulis oleh Ariffin Omar. Dalam buku tersebut banyak disebutkan rujukan daripada buku ini. Buku Bangsa Melayu telah mengubah banyak persepsi saya terhadap sejarah Melayu selepas perang dunia kedua. So relatable, especially in the current political climate. Milner's writing style is clear and accessible. Learnt a great deal. History is profoundly important. It serves as a reminder as to why things are the way they are. Why are some people subservient? Perhaps because that is the only thing they know. Perhaps some cultural practices are so deeply embedded that it can be hard to change the society. Why don't people change? Maybe because they do not want to. I don't know anymore.
