It’s been quite a while since the last book in this series was published, and I was glad to see there is another story now. The fascinating world of dragon shifters and sorcerers and its royal dragon shifter family is as interesting as ever, and with the dragon king, Brian, and his brothers still looking for the missing and/or kidnapped dragons, there is plenty of action and suspense to keep me happy. Characters from the first two books are back, but the focus is on Brian’s brother, Nicholas, and the “lost dragon” he has been drawn to.
What Nicholas finds when they finally determine the exact location of the small dragon they have set out to rescue is pretty shocking. Nicholas is ready to burn all the perpetrators to a cinder, but his need to make sure the enslaved guy is safe wins out and the first thing he does is return the rescued captive’s dragon’s eye to him – that way he will finally be free.
Tommy was born as a slave, has never had any reason to trust another dragon, and when he holds his dragon’s eye for the very first time, he can feel its power. Since he has no idea what to do now that he is free and has no education or money to help him survive, he hesitantly accepts Nicholas’s offer to come back to the royal house with him.
What follows is a very sweet romance, and even though both men know they are mates, building trust is hard. For one, Nicholas and Tommy are total strangers, and Tommy has always been disappointed and treated badly by others. Then there is the fact that Brian appoints Nicholas as Tommy’s guardian – meaning Nicholas is in charge of Tommy’s training as a dragon. Finding out all about being a dragon and learning to fight is not exactly easy…
‘Dragon’s Breath’ is about finding out who you really are, finding a home, and learning about skills and abilities that can be difficult to deal with. If you like rescued shifters, supernaturals who have to figure out who they are and what they want in life, and if you're looking for an entertaining, sweet read, then you will probably like this novella.

I’m a pretty big sucker for dragon shifter stories and then when some hurt/comfort gets thrown in there, well that’s just a recipe for delicious escapism. That’s what I had a hankering for, but I would advise to pay close attention to the blurb:

When he is rescued by Nicholas he feels an instant connection to him.
“For some reason” and “an instant connection” are key here. “For some reason”, now generally, I like more than “some reason” but it didn’t happen, so I just had to trust it was a thing. The story is too short to get a real connection so there’s the standard shifter/paranormal “instant connection” and again I had to just go with it.
I don’t want you to think I’m cracking on this story too hard, believe me, I love me a good insta-love shifter fest now and again and Dragon’s Breath is an easy to read 62 pages of just that. I just needed some ‘moments’ to make the story stand out and I think the set up lent itself to that so it just seemed like an opportunity missed. Tommy was over a lifetime of slavery in a hot minute after he sees Nicholas and I don’t necessarily need a ton of reality, but I missed the comfort part of the hurt/comfort.
While Dragon’s Breath is the third in the series, there’s really not a ton of world building you need backup for so you can easily read it as a standalone. I did read the first two just because and they all have about the same level of depth, but my only niggle is they all end at about the 85% mark and have a blurb and preview for another book. When I’m already feeling a little shortchanged on detail, I don’t like to get “The End” when I’m expecting (and wanting) another 15%.
For some quick brain candy with likable, albeit surface level characters, dive on in. Dragon’s Breath isn’t the most memorable of stories, but it is an entertaining diversion which is always a good thing to have on deck for when RL is just not doing it for you. Soak up the insta love/lust and go with an easy HEA, ain’t nothing wrong with that.

I really love this series. It is well written with nicely developed characters. That said my biggest problem is that you have to wait sooooooo long between books. The first one came out in 2010. The second 2013 and this newest one Jan 2017. They are not very long so I am just guessing that they are not a priority for the author. I loved her Lost Shifter series and her spin off series Wayne County Wolves series. I hope her next book in this series comes out sooner the 2020.

It only took one look in a scrying bowl for Nicholas to know that Tommy would be someone very special to him. He and the other dragons HAD to go and save this man, his dragon eye, and help him heal. I love how Nicholas and Tommy meshed. Together they help free Tommy’s body, soul, and dragon from slavery.

Nicholas has seen his mate in chains as the dragons try to find others of their kind who've been enslaved as Duncan had been. Now they're off to save Tommy. This is the third in this series of short romance stories, but the ending leaves me wanting more. I'd really like to see one where Brian finds a mate worthy of his status as king of the dragons.

Rating: 2.5 stars. This book was way too short to begin with. You add on top of that it ends at 85% and the rest is an excerpt from another book and it's just not worth the money I paid for it. The story itself was cute enough if a bit rushed. If you don't mind the brevity of this author's books, then I would suggest reading the other two before you read this one. I'm not invested enough to spend money on such short stories, especially if 15% of the book is not actually part of the story.

This is the first book in this series hat I have read but I will say hay I will be on the lookout from here on out for each new book in this series. For a short story I really enjoyed this book.
From the description of the book I figured I would enjoy it because I am a huge fan of shifter books but in being honest it really blew me away. This is a book about captivity and finding freedom in more ways then one.
Tommy has been held captive as a slave from the time that he was born. He has never known freedom nor has he never known what it feels like to be able to shift into his dragon nor what it feels like to be loved or to love someone. All he has known is life as a prisoner under someone else's control.
That is about to change in a major way because when Nicolas sees him in the skry he knew beyond any reasonable doubt that he had to find him. He did not understand the connection that they seemed to share but could not get over the overwhelming feeling of needing to find him.
When they do finally find him, upon first meeting he knows that Tommy is his mate and he will do whatever necessary to help Tommy realize the freedom he has and he hopes thy Tommy will want to be his mate and share their future together.
One of the problems Tommy needs to overcome is finding his dragon inside and hopefully will be able to shift. If this can happen then he feels he will be worthy of Nicolas. Can Nicolas help Tommy to overcome everything he has been through and help him find his dragon or will Tommy never feel worthy of Nicolas and set him free.
Such a great read. A lot happened in small amount of time but I never felt overwhelmed with information so that made this read that much better. I look forward to reading more in the future where this series is concerned.
