It was nice to read a story about a time when cell phones didn't exist and kids enjoyed the environment around them. It was nice to read about an old man who did whatever he wanted, even though his family tried to make decisions for him.

I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed that the grandpa followed his desire and did what he wanted and didn't care for the others. I enjoyed that the kid enjoyed spending time with him and discovering the island. It was a time when kids could go around freely and people didn't worry as much.
