What a fantastic cozy mystery! I thought this one would be right up my alley as it features the Amish, candy, and a recipe. Amanda Flower is skilled at character development; every person has dimension and personality. This in turn leads to several possible suspects to keep the reader guessing. The setting is idyllic and charming with its Amish run shops and village square. This was a fast-paced read that had enough of a varied storyline that at times I forgot I was reading a mystery. A fabulous ...more

This book has everything I look for in a cozy mystery. It takes place in a small town which just happens to have a large Amish community. There is a murder, a wonderful protagonist, food, some romantic tension and a strong family connection. There is also a recipe included at the end. It is the first in a new series by Amanda Flower. I have read other books by this author, and I enjoy her character development, plot development and storyline. A winner in my books.

Bailey King lives in New York City, working as assistant chocolatier at JP Chocolates. She learned to love chocolate and making candy from her Amish grandfather. When she receives a phone call that her grandfather is very ill, she drops everything and rushes to Ohio. When she arrives, she discovers her Daadi is not only having health problems but he's also being pressured to sell his candy shop to a local developer, Tyson Colton. I am a huge fan of this author so anything new either in an existing series or the start of a new one I will automatically read. This was a one day read for me as I couldn't put the book down. I was so engaged I just kept turning pages to learn who killed Tyson and why. Ms. Flower has an incredible writing style that transports her readers to whatever the story take them. I know that when I pick up one of her books I will be entertained by an engaging mystery, quaint locations and characters tha ...more

Bailey King is most likely next in line has head chocolatier at the prestigious JP Chocolates in New York City when she receives a call from her Amish grandma in Ohio that her grandpa's heart condition has taken a turn for the worse. Family is always first for Bailey so even though the position at work she's wanted for a long time is at stake, she hurries back home to Harvest, Ohio and the shop, Swissmen Sweets, that she has fond memories of as a child. I have been looking forward to this series for what seems like forever and I was not disappointed at all! Assaulted Caramel by Amanda Flower is the first book in the new cozy mystery series An Amish Candy Shop Mystery. As with most cozies that I find myself enjoying this series has its own unique setting bringing the main character to the small town charm with her Amish grandparents. Just infusing the Amish ways within the story added its own bit of flavor that was hard to not like getting to kn ...more

A very different type of Amish story, one where a young woman finds her roots in her Grandparents, but she was not raised in the Amish Community.
Bailey returns to help her Grandparents in their Amish Candy Shop, when her Grandfather has health problems, not at a good point in her life, she is up for one fantastic promotion, but family comes first.
When a murder happens in the back of the store, all of the characters are called into question, and we are left guessing almost to the end. I love whe

Great book! Loved the characters, especially Deputy Aiden Brody. Nice clean book. The murder reveal really surprised me. I would highly recommend.

Amanda Flower also writes under the name Isabella Alan and I highly recommend the Amish Quilt Shop Mysteries under that name.

The first book in a new Amish series. It is an easy fun read. The mystery is very simple and I figured out the answer early. The background is in a county in Ohio that has a large Amish colony. The location of the story is an Amish candy shop. There is a negative feeling against the Amish by some of the residents of the county.
Bailey King learns her Amish grandfather has had a heart attack. She leaves her prestigious job in NYC to fly to be with him. On Arrival, she finds him arguing with a stran

I both loved this book and was angry with the author. I can't tell you why I was angry because it will ruin the story for you but something happens at the end that made me chose up. Now for why I liked the book - Amish, candy, mystery, and a cute cat all good things to a story. I really liked the closeness that Bailey had with her Amish grandparents even though she is not Amish herself. I also liked all the references to chocolate and how Bailey would recite the names of chocolate when she got s ...more

A fun new first in series by Amanda Flower! If you love the culinary cozy theme you will definitely enjoy the characters, setting and candy (there's a recipe at the end)!!
Although the initial premise is far from original (main character has to leave in a hurry to visit an ailing grandparent), the Amish town of Harvest is very appealing to a cozy lover and the Amish as well as the "Englisch" characters keep the reader's interest.
The murder victim wasn't well liked by the Amish community but woul

#1 in the Amish Candy Shop mystery series. This 2018 series debut is a sign of the times. Back in "the day", a paperback cozy ran 160-200 pages and cost $.35-$.60. Now this run of the mill cozy weighs in at 328 pages and costs $7.99, even accounting for inflation that's a hefty increase. There is really nothing wrong with this paperback mystery if the increase in size and price doesn't cause you to raise your standards as well. The writing is uneven, but it's a debut and the characters and setti ...more

I love the quirky people and situations in this book, and a possible romance. I found this book to be a quick read, with a well developed plot and characters. This book has all the trappings of a good cozy - small town, possible romance, animals, food/recipes, and of course, murder! This was an enjoyable first book in the new series by Amanda Flower.

Bailey King must leave New York to visit her ailing grandfather in the Amish community of Harvest; when she arrives she sees her "Daadi" speaking to a man, who we come to learn is a very unlikable character, in and out of the Amish community.
