When you look up in the sky and see the sun, do you know that you are looking at a star? The sun gives Earth light and heat. Do you know how long it takes light from the sun to reach us on Earth?

Young readers ages six and seven will learn about the sun, its age, its place in our solar system, how it differs from Earth, and more in this Scholastic Science Vocabulary Reader that introduces first- and second-grade students to the star that is the center of our solar system. Using pictures, diagrams, and a simple text to help strengthen reading skills and vocabulary, the book addresses three main topics: What Is the Sun?, The Hot Center, and The Super Sun!. In each section, Fast Fact boxes relate snippets of information related to the sun.

A glossary and three comprehension questions help young readers assess their understanding of the information presented in the book.

Highly recommended, especially for students interested in science, the sun, the solar system, and /or space exploration.

Part of the Scholastic Science Vocabular Readers 6-book series for the solar system - which includes:
Stars and Constellations by Elizabeth Bennett
The Earth by Megan Duhamel
The Moon by Lydia Carlin
The Planets by Jeff Bauer
The Solar System by Jeff Bauer
The Sun by Justin McCory Martin

Each of the books includes three chapters and then a Glossary and Comprehension Questions page in the back.

I think this is the best book of the series, with lots of important and interesting facts about The Sun, plus a solid vocabulary section. Good science and good vocabulary. Even the comprehension questions were first-to-second grade thought provoking. I wish all the books of this series were this good.

This book talked about what the sun is, how all stars are a giant ball of gas, how hot the sun is, where the sun falls in the solar system, as well as what the sun does. This was an awesome book! I have always loved learning about the solar system, so reading this book was right up my alley. I definitely will use this particular book in my future classroom.

This is a great informational book about the sun! The illustrations are really cool! I really like how the vocabulary words are in bold throughout the book, and then the definition to the words is in the back of the book in the glossary! It mentions that one million Earths could fit in the sun! I thought that was amazing!
