About the author

Anant Pai popularly known as Uncle Pai, was an Indian educationalist and creator of Indian comics, in particular the Amar Chitra Katha series in 1967, along with the India Book House publishers, and which retold traditional Indian folk tales, mythological stories, and biographies of historical characters. In 1980, he launched Tinkle, a children's anthology, which was started under Rang Rekha Features, India's first comic and cartoon syndicate, that lasted till 1998, with him as the Managing Director.

Today, Amar Chitra Katha sells about three million comic books a year, in English and more than 20 Indian languages, and has sold about 100 million copies since it inception in 1967 by Anant Pai, and in 2007 was taken over by ACK Media.

The story of Rama is told in this simple yet informative comic; this series is a great 'gateway' to the rich traditions of Hinduism for individuals who are not familiar with these stories - one of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon.

Another Amar Chitra Katha book for children, this one is retold from Ramayana., story deals with Rama till he ascending the throne.

"Rama" is an impressive short comic focused on the tale of noble Rama who was very energetic, fearless, caring, courageous and determined by personality. He was sturdy physically. These qualities added up to his overall personality which made him fascinating. He was the son of King Dasharatha who was ruler of Ayodhya. He had three wives - Kaushalya,Kaikeyi and Sumitra. Kaushalya 's son was Rama. Kaikeyi 's son was Bharata. Sumitra 's sons were Laxman and Shatrughana. This comic shows us the battle between the team of monkeys, bears, Sugreeva ( brother of monkey King Vali ), Hanuman, Rama & Laxman on the one side and Ravana, Meghanad and other demons on the other side. The battle took place in Lanka where Ravana used to rule.

Ramayana revisited

It is amazing how the story of Ramayana has been covered in just 32 pages with such good illustrations. The attention to details is commendable!
