No Excuses is a hot, full-length contemporary romance, featuring blindfolds, rope play, food fights, and sexy architectural features like wainscoting. As in all Nikky Kaye books, cheating is not allowed, but some funny stuff and a HEA are non-negotiable. --- Maddie's rules for attending a work retreat:
1 Pack the right clothes. Especially extra underwear. 2 Don’t try to school your insanely hot boss on acceptable trust exercises. 3 Be prepared for the extracurricular ropes course. 4 Make sure there is a safety net when you fall, because you will fall hard
Gage doesn’t appreciate how hard it is to be his right hand woman—especially when I’m spending so much time with my own right hand, fantasizing about him. My demanding, control freak boss is testing all my limits, and I don’t know how long I can stay professional.
I just finished reading No Excuses for the second time & fell in love with Gage & Maddie all over again. Gage is a self made millionaire app designer who has his life in a straight neat orderly line. Maddie is a less than organized recently graduated college student who is trying to find her way in the world. This older man falls for a younger woman/opposite attract romance is both full of humor & learning to be vulnerable with your heart. Both Gage & Maddie challenge each other to look at their expectations & what it means to let go & trust someone else with your heart. Gage struggles with his need to control & Maggie learns to commit to decision she makes for herself that s important to her. Nikky Kaye's writing style brings this quirky love story full circle with a beautiful HEA ending that allows you to believe fairy tales can come true!!
I just finished this great read by Nikky Kaye. I don't want to give much away because I'm not sure how close the final version the story is at this point. This is a full length book & a great story about two people trying to find their way to each other. I will write a more in depth review when I know the story is closer to being released. Until then, please know that Nikky you hit out of the park on this one!! The book is intended for mature readers.
I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.
Couldn't get past page 99. I am truly puzzled by the high rating. This was really boring from page 1 to where I was. There were no signs of attraction, no physical descriptions in any real sense. I didn't feel any difference between the main character and anyone else. The narrative from the hero's POV was way too feminine. I really felt like I was reading a lady's POV.
I am hopelessly addicted to Nikky Kaye and her wicked sense of humor. This is not the first time I read this book yet it felt as magical the second time around.
Gage is a control freak. He runs a company and expects perfection with "NO EXCUSES". See I managed to throw the title into the play of words. But there is so much more to this sexy, tied up :) perfectionist than meets the eye. But in order to know what that is you will really want to read the book.
Maddie is a bit younger and full of sass. She manages to get a job as Gage's assistant which makes for some really funny moments. She is the opposite of Gage in so many ways yet he is drawn to her. The banter between these two had me laughing and smiling a great portion of the book. My husband said he knew it had to be a good book by watching my face and listening to my laughter throughout the night.
We have some added entertainment with Gage's sister. The story was fun with some rather heated moments that could make some blush but I personally found it was just another likable layer to the author that enticed me.
So to sum up the book without giving up any of the good stuff. We have romance, with humor and scorching levels of heat at moments weaved in between pages of a rather enjoyable story. Great main characters with a wonderful side of secondary support. You just can't go wrong with this book, it has so much to offer. Once you get a taste of what is offered you'll be looking forward to see what comes next.
No Excuses by Nikky Kaye a sublime five star read. Nikky Kaye has yet again done something amazing, she has written a great book about characters that you can’t help but love. The main characters are great, but the background guys are also fun and filled with love. There are some scenes of an adult nature so it’s only suitable for adults, there is no cheating, but you will need to read the book to find out about whether they get there HEA. Brian Gage is a man who lives by the rules, he believes there is ‘No excuses’ for failure. Gage runs his company with an iron fist and pushes his right-hand woman to the limit, but will it be a hard limit. Gage is most certainly a man I wouldn’t kick out of bed for eating crackers. Madeline Jones thinks she may have finally found the job for her, if only her boss wasn’t such a bad communicator then it may be everything she wanted. When he demands that she attend a weekend retreat, she may have all of her limits pushed, and some of them may be pushed too far. Will Maddie and Gage get their time together? Or will being the boss always give Gage too much power. Will Brain every get chance to rule the world? And will he want to, if he gets what he wants?
A well written story where not only are the two main characters likeable the secondary ones are also really likeable too.
The storyline centres around Gage aka Brian Gage a man who likes control and Maddie who works for him who's a bit... well she's all over the place but together they were perfect for each other he wasthe calm to her storm and of course it helped that they shared an intense chemistry, it was way off the charts.
No Excuses is their story, filled with plenty of raunchy moments, chemistry and love and laughter along the way.
This was the first book I've read by this particular author and I really enjoyed it, I thought her style of writing was relaxed and easy, she appears to have a wicked sense of humour and the ability to have you laughing one minute and blushing the next with her enticing storytelling technique.
If you like a good romance story with a bit of humour thrown in then you should check this out, it's well worth a read.
First book by Nikky Kaye, but definitely won't be my last. I have no idea how or why I've missed her books, but I will be correcting that little mistake now. Wow, great book. I loved the writing and her quirky and fun sense of humor. There were a couple of scenes that were so damn funny, they were priceless. I always love me some good humor in a great book.
Maddie works for Gage, and honestly I have no idea how they lasted so long without getting involved, because their chemistry is off the charts ridiculous. These two, mmmm, mmmm, mmmm yummy. Gage is a tad bit of a control freak....I mean he makes me look like I just don't care, which is saying something. Basically Gage aka Brian aka Brain is the calm to her storm. She's all over the place and just flies by the seat of her pants. They really are perfect for each other.
There were a few problems along the way, not necessarily for them personally, but a few eye openers. Since Gage is a tad bit of a control freak, he can be really one sided and not see the whole picture. Since Maddie is all over the place, when she tries to take control, she goes a bit overboard and doesn't necessarily make the best choices for them. She also has intimacy issues, which I really don't blame her for at all. She was adopted, but not until she was 14, so yeah...don't blame her.
The best thing about her books is that apparently there is never any cheating, which I for one appreciate, so thank you Nikky Kaye. If you haven't read a Nikky Kaye book, you are missing out and this would be the perfect book for you to start....you're welcome.
I've read several Nikky Kaye books and they are always fun and definitely steamy. This time I didn't really feel much of a real or natural connection between Gage and Maddie and the story just seemed to drag on for me.
I won't stop reading anything by Nikky Kaye but this one just didn't hit the mark with me.
I have read several of Nikky Kaye's books and I think this on just might be my favorite book. Awesome read. This one to me feels a little different in writing style but I really enjoyed it. Gage and Maddie are the perfect main couple along with the secondary characters in this book. While reading about the events they participated in at the retreat all I could think about was, my corporate retreats were never like this. And if they were they would not have been so boring. This is a full length novel that is Hot, Sexy, Eventful, and a Fun read. I highly recommend this book and author.
What a fantastic read. Gage and Maddie man what a pair. There interactions during the retreat has me fanning myself one second and laughing the next. They have so much chemistry but it's more than just that. They teach each other and help each other grow. I also loved the relationship between Gage and his sister or should I say the changing of the relationship. I had to work the day after I started reading this book. I read til my eyes hurt and finally called it a night. I didn't want to accidentally miss something lol.
I adore Nikky Kaye and her writing style. Her humor is so wicked , that its addictive. The main characters are awesome, but also the background characters are also just as fun and filled with love too.
Brian Gage is a man who lives by the rules, he believes there is NO EXCUSES ever for failure. Gage runs his company with an hard fist and pushes Madeline Jones to the limit, but will it be a hard limit. Madeline Jones thinks she has finally found the right job if only her boss wasn’t such a tool. Gaga aka Brian Gage never communicates with her leaving her trying to think for him and make decisions that sort of explode in her face. When he demands that she attend a weekend retreat, she may have all of her limits pushed, and some of them may be pushed too far. Thing is Maddie and Gage have this explosive chemistry , it is so hot it possibly could have set my kindle on fire. There are some twists and turns to this story and only question you want to know is -- Will Maddie and Gage get together? Or will Gage let his being the boss get in their way. This is one fantastic story that I highly recommend.
My Rating: 4.7 stars ***** "I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
I’ve read and loved quite a few works by Kaye now, she has style that is easy to read, with steamy sex scenes, and writes novels that are very humorous with the banter between her characters. I know when I’m reading her books I can just switch off from the humdrum of reality and lose myself for an enjoyable hour or so. I have always commented that I wished Kaye’s books were longer, all to date have been novellas, or short stories, so imagine how thrilled I was to get a full length standalone erotic romance from her. Plus the trope of a hot, bossy, and stubborn millionaire boss and his infatuated assistant. Enter Gage and Maddie and the will they won’t they push and pull as both debate the complexities of an office romance. If I was rating the first half of the book alone, it would be a five star read for me. Extremely entertaining and I loved the build up of the sexual tension between the leads, and the unusual premise to help force them into each other’s orbit. Once the couple consummated the relationship though, the remaining half of the book was only a three star read for me. It seemed to drag a little, with the “obstacles” to their relationship flourishing not making a whole lot of sense. This last 50% was lacking in any real drama for me. Some angles that I thought would be ramped up and explored, the HR Manager and Maddie’s mother, weren’t. Still a recommended read at an overall average of four stars for me, and Kaye still remains one of my favourite humorous erotica authors. I look forward to her future works, be they short or long! **I was provided with an ARC by the author in exchange for my honest review**
I’d read 2 previous books from author, Nikky Kaye and loved the previous stories so this was a no brainer. Filled with steam, chemistry, loss, love and a millionaire CEO, it was bound to be a good read. I began the story feeling a little under inflated, I’m not sure what held me back but I pushed on and I’m glad I did. At 50% I couldn’t put it down.
App developer business owner, Brian Gage has everything in his life perfect. He runs a very lucrative business but is a bit of dragon at work, and it starts with a weekend retreat... The perfect way to infuriate your staff including his new secretary, Madeline. His no excuses attitude to everything pretty much drives everyone crazy, but Maddie refuses to give in to him. But a weekend away sharing a suite, with blindfolds and dinner makes it harder to ignore the feelings she has for Gage.
Madeline has a less than stellar reputation with work and feelings for her boss will only end in trouble. But when his hands are on her there is not much else to consider. Moving forward with Gage, Maddie will discover the past she has kept hidden will be open by a man with no filter, when she steamrolls into his life. Together the journey will have fear, sex, tears and love... Leaving no excuses and no questions let unanswered, Maddie and Gage will enter a journey of discovery.
This was a wholly refreshing & witty & engaging story! Loved the characters!
I received an Advance Reader Copy for No Excuses written by Nikki Kaye and voluntarily reviewed this book.
Great…a company weekend retreat to bond as a team just before their release of their new app. Madeline couldn’t have been more excited to spend even MORE time (HER time off) with her slavedriver of a boss, Brian “Gage”. The only thing is, the events involved blindfolds, ropes, harnesses…things that take on a whole different slant as Maddie and her boss fight their attraction to each other, trying to keep things “business as usual.” (I personally am not sure if I could participate myself in a couple of those bonding exercises, but it was sure fun to read about them)! Being his assistant was getting harder and harder, once her feelings started to become involved. Not that it was easier for Gage, either!
We have two polar-opposite people who are just so attracted to each other, but both leery of crossing the line between CEO and personal assistant. Maddie imparts just enough of a life’s-perspective feedback to Gage so that they can meet somewhere in the middle ground. “Gage” views life and acts as if he has a huge stick up wedged where the sun don’t shine. Opening up to Maddy was the best choice he had ever made…
Engaged from the beginning, good pacing, loved reading about him getting unwound by Maddy, her own force of nature ;-D
No Excuses is the first book that I have read by Nikky Kaye and it is a standalone with an HEA. That makes me grin.
I enjoyed reading No Excuses. It is a fun book to read and Maddie (Madeline Jones) is funny. But, she drove me a little crazy. Especially with quitting her job so that she can date the boss. It wasn’t his rules that she had to leave her job it was that she thought she should quit her job before the HR person fired her. Now if you were dating the boss would you worry about it unless, he said something? Just my thoughts.
Maddie and Gage (Brian Gage) are at a retreat and one of the things they had to do was the “Leap of Faith” I say no way in H*** would you ever get me on it. No way! Maddie was not pleased herself having to do the “Leap of Faith” I can’t tell you more about it and you will need to read about it if you want to know more.
Gage is a control freak. Maddie helps tame his control down a bit. Maddie and Gage are very engaging and I loved the interactions between them. There are some very steamy scenes between these two. So much that Maddie had to keep changing her panties.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. I look forward to reading more books by Nikky Kaye.
No Excuses was the first book I have read by author, Nikki Kaye. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. In No Excuses we are introduced to the characters of Gage, millionaire businessman and Madeline, Gage's much younger secretary/assistant. Gage is a businessman who always likes to be in control and Madeline is shy and introverted and inexperienced in relationships. Their relationship becomes more than a work relationship when they attend a company retreat that is about communication and trust. During the weekend work retreat, their attraction to each other blossoms. Soon they find themselves acting on their attraction. The problem is Gage is Madeline's boss and fraternization is a big no no. Throughout the book, I was taken on a journey of backs and forth and ups and downs in their quest to find true love. Once they both realize risks are worth taking, their relationship deepens and becomes real. The book does contain sexual situations but they are pertinent to their journey to find true love. The book contains a HEA and I would definitely recommend it. This book is a 5 star read and I will be looking for more books by this author. - By Julie
I received an ARC of No Excuses and was happy to read it after reading the blurb. However, I quickly realized when I started reading the story that 1) the cover does not match the story at all! Usually, this isn’t an issue for me, but this book caused me to have major issues ‘seeing’ the characters. If I'm being totally honest the original cover, is WAY BETTER! And 2nd it didn’t help that the characters description seems to change halfway through the story. Third, this story was so like every other millionaire CEO story out there. And fourth, I hated the characters! They were so strong in the beginning and then quickly became so wishy-washy I started to hate them. Then to top it all off, the story isn’t a full-length story (or as large as the file implies) because this story has a short novella that is called an extended epilogue followed by an additional two novellas! Why, I honestly have no clue. I hate when authors pad their ebooks to get a larger word count and that’s what we get here. Honestly, the only saving grace for the story was how well edited it was.

Huh- I am over here on my side of the keyboard thinking this book was literally a laugh out loud, sexy frustrating twisted take on the boss-employee relationship dynamic! Fast moving, yet surprisingly detailed I was all in from page one, the witty banter, flirtatious and entertaining antics these two go through to get a " rise " out of each other would have been enough to keep me entertained! Adding on the right in front of both their faces romance, a bit few emotional heart string tugging moments that leave you needing a hug some twists weaved in you have a marvelous well written read I shut out the outside world for! This is the first book I have read by Nikky Kaye, after reading this book I wish I had heard about her sooner! I am looking forward to reading her previous work, and what she comes out with next!
I voluntarily read an exclusive advanced readers copy of this book
What starts out as a boss/secretary fantasy novel quickly turns into something more. Maddie's adoption has left her with some issues regarding her self-worth as well as her ability to apply herself. Gage has some pretty serious social interaction issues (enough that I'm kinda curious how he's been so successful in business so far). Both of them are good at making the other one better. Maddie helps smooth out Gage's rough edges, helping deal with people with more humanity. And Gage believes that Maddie can, and will, do great which means she starts to believe it too.
There's humor and heat in Nikky Kaye's work. She's fantastic at taking a traditional storyline and giving it a little twist :)

What a great story about a man who lives by his motto "no excuses". Brian is geek in his own right, he accepts no excuses for anything, and his assistant Madeline tries to make him realize excuses are sometimes valid reasons. When the company goes away for a weekend for a team building learning experience, he's faced with his attraction to Madeline and the fact that he wants her. This is foreign to him, he's never allowed himself to let anyone in, now she has gotten under his skin. Can these two work side by side, and be a couple? Will they tame themselves while at work or will they have some fun! Nikky wrote a great book here, you'll laugh, you'll feel sad for the things Madeline went through and why she is the flighty girl she is. 5 stars for this one, get it when it comes out!
No excuses is a laugh out loud, kindle sizzling and fantastic banter 4 star read. You really need to one click it as soon as you can and get entertained by the sexy but idiotic (at times) Brian Gabe and the smart and flirty Maddie Jones. If two people were ment for each other it was Gabe and Maddie as they complement each other and give each other what they didn't even know they needed. They make each other better people. This story is very well written and completely hooks you in from the beginning . I really enjoyed reading No Excuses and I absolutely love Nikky Kaye and her writing style as she definitely knows what her readers want to read. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
She was hired as his executive assistant and was praised for her communication skills. He organized a retreat for his company for team-building purposes. But what was built was his attraction for her. That attraction was mutual and explosive but they both had control and commitment issues. Soon, Gage and Maddie realized that they were miserable apart and they brought out the best in each other. There was simply no excuse for them to be not together.
I loved NO EXCUSES ! This full-length novel was clever, entertaining and sexy. It had so many laugh out loud moments and Gage and Maddie were both adorable individually and as a couple. I read this book in one sitting because it was a thoroughly enjoyable and easy read.
This was just not good. There was no chemistry, it ended up being boring as hell, and I could not care any less about the characters. It was also just written strangely. This is not an enemies to lovers. There was just a very bizarre situation where she sometimes calls him Sir and sometimes doesn’t and it was just so off. He talks a lot about spanking her, but nothing comes of it. I kept thinking we’re supposed to see her as strong and witty, and him as a hot, successful alpha male...I didn’t see either of them that way. He was successful but wrote emails to potential investors literally saying “Give me money”...yeah, not a fucking chance.
Just writing this brief review makes me think about everything that I didn’t like so I’m stopping before I break into a rant.
No Excuses was a fun, light read with some angst and emotion to keep you wanting more! I jumped on this book as it's been on my list forever. It came at THE most perfect time, as I'd recently re-grown my obsession with rich CEO bosses who fall for their secretaries. It has the typical trope with a twist, a little enemies to lovers, a little kink and so much fun!
The two characters were too irresistible to not enjoy. I loved the company retreat, which wasn't also a laugh but a turning point for various characters! There's a lot of fun in this book which makes it super breezy to devour.
If you're looking for a read to pass the time with a smile, this is it for you!
The moments of humor brought this up to a 4 rating but otherwise it would have been a 3 for me. Gage is a driven man and quite clueless about his interactions with others. He needs Maddie, communicator par excellence, to help him see [at least a little bit] that there are other ways to deal with people. Personally, if I was Maddie, I'd have brushed up my resume and gone elsewhere. But then this wouldn't have been a romance novel.
Great Book: Nicky once again took us on a wild ride of steamy sexy fun. Laugh out loud scenes. I did not want to stop read once I started. Very well written, I enjoyed it a lot. Congratulations Nicky – great job.
I voluntarily received and reviewed an Exclusive Copy of this book for an honest review. Brian Gage is a application developer and runs his company with an iron fist. He is considered a control freak with strict workplace standards. Madeline Jones is Gage executive assistant, who has expertise in ghost writing correspondence and communication. The story was well written with great characters full of humor and intriguing moments. The H and h bantering was hilarious as both Gage and Maddie realized the need to trust each other. This is an exciting story and I look forward to reading another by this author.
Hot and steamy read. I enjoyed this book. The chemistry between Gage and Madeline, oh my! I was provided a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review.
So steamy and good! Loved the characters. Their chemistry was beyond amazing. The story was well written and kept my interest from page one. Would definitely recommend. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Maddie deals with her boss Gage the best way she can by rolling her eyes and taking as good as she gets, but a weekend work retreat wasn't something she was looking forward to. Gage likes things his way, in order but being around Maddie may spark more than he ever imagined.
