[The books in this series are loosely connected and may be read in any order.]

Sheriff August (Gus) Rose is a one-woman man. Too bad the only gal he's ever loved is married... again. Even if he were ready to court someone new--which he's not--Noelle Finlay would be his last choice. After all, her brother stole Gus's bride-to-be last Christmas.

The holiday season evokes unwelcome memories and he's almost glad an unruly gang provides a distraction. But petty vandalism rapidly escalates to hanging crimes--and the marauding bandits have targeted Noelle.

With his reputation as a lawman under fire and his tattered heart tangled up in Noelle, he discovers he's not only capable of loving her... he'll willingly die to save her.

All titles in the Holidays in Mountain Home Series are sweet, clean, wholesome reads. Some are rated G, others PG. This title, due to the nature of the conflict Gus faces, is rated PG for violence. This romantic suspense remains a clean read in all other ways. This holiday-focused series varies in how much holiday cheer is in each book. This title has less Christmas and more winter, thus will be an enjoyable (and perhaps nail-biting) read throughout the year.

The Marshal's Surrender is a novel of 42,000 words.

Gus and Noelle

Gus was in love with another woman and she Effie realized she was in love with another suitor, Luke. Gus took the job is sheriff and Noelle, Likes younger sister decided she was in love with with Gus. Outlaws were causing problems and it was putting the women and the town in danger. Twists and turns, kidnappings, an ambush and true love make for an exciting tale and very enjoyable book. You will love it.
PS
This is Noelle is a companion story and explains a question left untold in the Marshall's Surrender. It is a very enjoyable short story and a must read to understand more about the Findleys.

Romance & danger...... love this combination. Noelle has had feelings for Gus since he came to town a year ago, but he was pinning over another woman. Can Noelle gain his affection? I loved the interaction between our 2 main characters and their romantic scenes together. Also what's up with the gang of bad guys terrorizing the town? Read to find out.

Sweet Historical Christmas Romance

Isn't it amazing how love can heal? Kristin writes a powerful testimony of how Noelle, and the whole town really, turned a stone heart to pudding as they accept him, forgive him, love him, and welcome him permanently into their town and their hearts! Noelle's family especially show him what family and love is truly about! But it took tragedy to finally break that hard exterior open just a crack! And a a powerful kiss to melt it completely!

Marshal Gus Rose captured my attention in "Maybe This Christmas" and I couldn't wait to read his story. This delivered. Gus has a strong personality - determined, with single-minded focus, and a bit outspoken (good for his job) - and he needs a strong woman he won't accidentally over step. He's been the town sheriff for close to a year. Crimes from an unknown group keep escalating around town and Noelle unwittingly captures the group's attention.

Noelle is sister to the man who married Gus's former love. So Gus avoids Noelle like he does the rest of her family, because it's still painful and awkward. I like how Noelle is smart, adventurous, and enough of a risk taker to put her heart in danger by seeking after Gus. Noelle is surprisingly spunky. I also like the contrast to how other ladies pursue Gus, and how Noelle goes about it. I also like how she scolds Gus, out loud and in her mind.

The story is well told. Both characters have a distinct voice. The wintry setting is the perfect backdrop for a smart villain to close in and gain the upper hand. I thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas feel - one disrupted December that builds tension - with safety and love on the line. I highly recommend reading this if you enjoy Westerns with family, community, a showdown, and a sweet love story.

Amazing story

The plotting and execution of this book was exemplary. The characters were well developed as well as personable. I felt like I had known them all my life even the secondary and tertiary ones. I fell in love immediately with Gus and Noelle and was drawn more deeply into the story as I turned (tapped my Kindle) the pages.

I loved the suspense the author executed so well throughout the book. At times she had me sitting on the edge of my seat reading as fast as I could. Great job, Ms Holt!

I agree with most of the prior reviewers of this book. This is a five star offering by Kristin Holt. This is the third book in a four book series. I recommend reading this series in sequence as each book builds on the story line established in book one. Seldom have I read of protagonists so completely devoted to each other. The suspense was nail biting and page turning and is the best of the series so far. That is saying something because the two prior books also earned fives stars. I simply cannot wait to read the final book in this series. Well done Kristin!
