Sam Barrette's life is finally going in the right direction. She's made the boys' travel baseball team, her friendship with Mike is turning into something more, and she's even connected with her stepmother. But a cross-country family camping trip filled with secrets and surprises challenges everything she thought she knew about what the future will hold. To save her dreams, Sam must find a way to fix her perfect trip.
Stacy Barnett Mozer is a middle grade author, a book blogger, and an elementary school teacher. Stacy started writing novels when one of her third grade classes told her there was no way a real author who wrote real books could possibly revise as much as she asked them to revise. She’s been revising her own novels every since. Stacy is one of the co-Regional Advisors for New England SCBWI. She is also the founder of Sporty Girl Books, a blog for anyone who loves to watch, play, read, and write about women and girls in sports.
THE PERFECT TRIP is the companion novel to THE SWEET SPOT, which released from Spellbound River in March 2016.
I’ve been thinking a lot about sports in the past several months as I finish up work on my next book, Take Down, which is set on a middle school wrestling team. Visiting me today for an interview — and to share a poem for Poetry Friday — is Stacy Barnett Mozer, one of the authors behind the blog Sporty Girl Books.
Stacy’s latest book is The Perfect Trip, about Sam (Samantha) Barrette, a girl who has just made the boys’ travel baseball league.
I loved this book so much. Often a second book in a duology or a series is a new version of the original story. Not the case for THE PERFECT TRIP. Mozer has managed to keep everything I loved about THE SWEET SPOT, while also taking the story in a very new direction.
Additionally, I love how Mozer's writing brings sporty girls out into the limelight. She touches on the struggles of being a girl in the boy dominated world of baseball, but she also highlights the joys and high moments. In addition, there is a delightfully complex web of story revolving around family, friendships and even a hint of first love. You're going to want to get this for your MG readers, classrooms and libraries ASAP!
I am really hoping that Mozer is planning a third book in the Sweet Spot Series.
