Sustaining a series is no simple task. Inserting a special edition story that is somehow as fresh and fun as the very first book seems insurmountable. Except to Ms. Mlynowski.

This fairy-tale-esque fantasy adds adventure and humor absolutely appropriate for younger readers, while maintaining a subtle, something-more; making it compelling and quirky enough for older audiences as well.

I enjoyed being the proverbial parrot-on-the-shoulder as four friends share a day off from school. Per usual, Penny

{My thoughts} – I think I was more excited then my daughter to receive this book. I am a huge fan of these fairytale re-tellings. I zipped through it rather quickly.

In this book Abby gets to go down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland. She doesn’t get to go with Jonah, but instead her three friends go with her. She tries to convince them that it’s all a dream but that doesn’t work out for her, in the end she ends up admitting that she story hops a lot but usually only with her brother Jonah.

They

This is a great book! I rated it 5 stars because I never wanted to put the book down! This book is about a girl named Abby and her best friends, Robin, Frankie, and Penny. They're all at Penny's house playing cards outside, when all of a sudden a card blows off the table. They all try to get it, until it falls down a rabbit hole! But Frankie accidentally trips and is about to fall down the hole! They all try to help her up, but it's too late, she slips and falls down the hole. They can't leave h ...more

This story is based on a girl named Abby who has gone through a magic mirror at various times and ends up in traditional fairy tales. In this case she ends up in Wonderland along with friends Frankie, Robin, and Penny (who is rich, stuck up and jealous of Abby's friendship with Robin.)

Although they end up in Wonderland the order of events is not the same as in the actual book. Frankie falls down a rabbit hole on a golf course and the others end up following (not necessarily wanting to) and they

Whatever After, Abby in Wonderland, by Sarah Mlynowski, is a great adventurous book. In the beginning of the book, Abby goes with her friends, to a not so much of a friend’s house. Abby and her brother Jonah, always travel through their basement mirror into fairytales. This time, Abby is pulled into a story, with her friends, by a hole in the ground. Abby’s friend named Frankie, falls into the hole. Abby her other friend Robin, and her not so much friend(who is friends with Robin) Penny, go afte ...more

Abby has been traveling into fairy tales with her brother and loyal pooch for a long time. When she goes to spend the day with her friends, she is surprised to find herself falling down the rabbit hole into Wonderland. She’s never told her friends Robin and Frankie her fairy tale traveling secret and certainly doesn’t want to tell snobby, rich girl Penny who is their hostess for the day. When Penny insists on playing cards outside, one of Abby’s cards gets blown over the fence. When she and Fran ...more

We’re all mad here!
Abby’s no stranger to magic. She has an enchanted mirror in her basement that transports her and her brother into the land of fairytales. However, this particular voyage is different because it is her first adventure with her best friends, Robin, Frankie, and enemy, Penny. They happily explore Alice in Wonderland, until they lose Frankie and everything turns upside down. Abby must now find a way to save her best friend, play croquet with the Queen, have tea with the Mad Hatt

I won this book in an Instagram giveaway hosted by Scholastic, Inc. I normally can't stand to read series out of order but since I won it and it's a children's book I figured it would be okay. This was a cute book and I'm a sucker for fairy tale retellings (although this seems to be the only book in the series that retells a children's book rather than a fairy tale). The over arching story line actually reminds me a lot of the Magic Treehouse books, which I loved growing up, except these focus o ...more

While playing a card game at a slumber party with her friends Frankie, Robin, and Penny, Abby finds herself and her friends in Wonderland where Alice once visited in Lewis Carroll's classic tale. While she has quite a lot of experience with fairy tales and moving in and out of worlds, this adventure presents Abby with quite a few challenges, including riddles that must be solved in order for her to survive and things that shrink and enlarge. While a tea party might sound like lots of fun, not wh ...more

I think this was a great book! I would recommend this book to people who are a fan of Alice in Wonderland. Abby falls into a rabbit hole with her friends. Now, she is stuck in Wonderland. Wonderland, a place to get wacky with the Mad Hatter, solve tricky riddles from the Chesire Cat, face the quick tempered, evil Queen of Hearts, and find her friend, Frankie, before it’s too late! When you read this book, it makes you feel like your actually in Wonderland! My only disappointment is that the stor ...more

Abby, Frankie, Robin, and Penny fall down a hole and end up in Alice's Adventures in wonderland. The White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, and the deck of cards all feature prominently in the story. Abby discovers she has more in common with Penny than she previously believed; she sees their relationship through fresh eyes. The story is fast paced with enough added changes to make it engaging. The author drops clues so the reader can figure out what's going to happen before the characters do. ...more

I'm not a book experted, but to me it's so far so good. This was my favorite series when I was younger. The story and charaters were overall good and there were some funny and odd moments, but hey, this is Wonderland after all. I wasn't completely amazing or really hooked (that's just me an my taste). I will say if you haven't read the other books before this you'll get spoilers and you'll feel like you missed a whole lot of something (like me lol). So go read the book and stop reading this crin ...more

Recommends it for: Grades 3-5
217 pages. Good story for grades 3 and up. This time Abbey travels to Wonderland with three other school girls and falls into the rabbit hole on a gold course near one girl's home they were visiting. It is quite a confusing place for Abbey and friends. The plot is good but it can get kind of long winded. Girl drama continues throughout. Realistic fiction that allows kids to work out their issues is good for readers. Kids will like this one - probably girls more than boys. I would buy it. Recomm ...more

I'm a big fan of this series (I've read the first 10 regular ones), but this one seemed a little boring to me. And the fact that it was literally longer made it seem to draaaaag even more. I guess it was interesting to have the change-up with the friends coming along and with a book instead of a fairytale (and also sets up possible future ventures into other books), but this was probably my least favorite of all the ones I've read.

My daughter and I read this aloud and it's a really cute children's book. We have not read any others in the series but were able to get into this one without confusion. This one features 4 young girls who find themselves in Wonderland and have to work together, appreciating their differences, to find their way out. My daughter loved it. I'm always happy to find books that encourage my kids to read.

This was a cute retelling of the Alice in Wonderland story. Kind of a fractured fairy tales for kids. I'm hoping this will please my granddaughter as it puts any girl of that age into the story. It's quite easy for them to imagine being Abby or one of her three friends. The addition of the clueless Alice was a cute touch. I especially liked that rivals Abby and Penny discovered one another. A classic gal pals (hopefully I can say that) story.

Special edition in the Whatever After series! In this book, Abby and her friends go to Wonderland. Everything is cooky, odd, backwards and exactly how Wonderland should be. I like how the author tosses in explanations for words that have more than 1 meaning or sound alike but are spelled differently. Great spin on one of my favorite stories. Love it!!!!

This was such a fun book! Characters that we've seen throughout the book suddenly took the front stage, and a friendship is blossoming between some of them. The twists inside of this story are great, the way the overall plot of the series is pushed forward is well done, and the main character's way of thinking is as quirky and fun as always!

Another sweet, delightful installment of the "Whatever After" series. Having Abby's friends and Penny going along on the adventure this time was a nice way to shake up the formula a bit (though like Abby, I missed Jonah and his enthusiasm for ketchup!) I LOVED the twist at the end and can't wait to see what effect it has on future books.

Interesting concept of plot: young girl jumping into fairy tales and stories. I think this would entice readers to want to know the original stories, or if they do know them already, be pleased with some twists and funny mistakes that occured from Abby being in the stories. Might have to get more of these for work.

In this special edition, they end up in Alice in Wonderland when Frankie falls down a hole and through a portal. Abby, Robin, and Penny go after Frankie in hope of bringing her back. They accidentally eat the queen's tarts and they must be beheaded. Also, they meet the Cheshire cat who can completely confuse you and then make you laugh if you are not in the girls shoes.
