Great book, with lucid writing though he has an argument over High Renaissance and Mannerism, I think. The only downer is the black and white illustrations, as it is an old book, so I had my phone with me to see the pictures online, hence the 4

Combined with Early Renaissance it gives a good overview of the developments in the culture and arts throughout Europe and the rising social status of artists.
