He was one of the greatest popularizers of African history in the 20th century.
Nice! This was the FIRST text I was able to get my hands on when I was 12 and trying to develop an awareness of my Afrikan self. It opened a new world and was very meaningful to me at that time.
The author did an excellent job of encouraging his audience. Not only through the rich history of Ethiopia facts about it's great leadership and lineage of warriors men and women. Very possibly one of the oldest cultures to adopt a level of equality like that in early Mohammedan era or even Christian era armed forces
A quick and well written read from a fascinating perspective, Jamaican American author who raises wide look at Ethiopia in the context of the world with a specific survey addressing the wide African diaspora. Lots of references for further exploration.
A 4 star rating due to facts and content flowed that have reader an understanding. I liked learning about the country of Ethiopia. I recommend book to other readers that have ever wondered why Ethiopia stood unconquered whereas other nations were.
After having lived there some years ago, I found this book to be very interesting. Obviously written before the demise of Emperor Haile Selassie, I would concur with most of the things said in his favor. He was an extraordinary person.
I found the history of Ethiopia to be very interesting. I learned things that I never new before about her and Ras Tfara Haile Selassie. May G-d continue to bless her to maintain her dignity and independence
It provides an excellent background on Ethiopia's history. Ethiopians have been warriors for centuries and never surrendered for European brutal colonialism, and this book explains that very well.
Informative book with knowledgeable facts about Ethiopian viewpoints about their place in world history, and their place as the (First) Christian Nation in the world.
It was very informative. The information is poignant even for today (2024). We should all strive, on every level of leadership, to be like the late H.I.M. Emperor Haile Selassie!
