Commander Terex has had a terrible life. First he lost his mate, then he was taken over by an evil demon, then attacked and mutilated by the Dark Kindred, Two--enemy of his kind. He feels broken and the only thing that can make him whole again is vengeance--or so he thinks.

Elaina Thornton has a secret grief--a sister who is terminally ill with no hope of recovery. She too, feels broken inside--unable to do anything but grieve.

But then a prophesy is spoken--Elaina's healing and Terex's vengeance lie in the same direction, in the mysterious Dark Sector. Ships that fly into this part of the universe never return and yet this is where they must go.

Despite Elaina's fear, she is willing to risk anything to save her sister. Terex just wants revenge. Neither of them is looking for love but sometimes the Goddess has plans of her own. What awaits them in the Dark Sector--love or death?

Main characters: Terex & Elaina Thornton
Type of Kindred bonding: Blood Kindred

Terex is an old friend. The story of Commander Terex was scattered in many of the previous Kindred books. Terex has been a really unlucky guy. He has lost his mate, he has been possessed by a evil demon and he lost his thumb and his eye by the Dark Kindred who used them to open the locked door of the water processing area and put a virus is the ship’s water supply. For all of his suffering – especially for his wife death- he only blames himself.

Well, there is nothing Yipper the Tolleg surgeon cannot correct and improve. Terex will be as good as new again, but his internal scars of his soul will remain.

Elaina is divorced, almost 40 years old and her beloved sister has a terminally illness. When they met for first time Terex seemed to be interested in her but later on they lose contact.

The book will start with a prophecy. Terex and Elaina have to fly together to the Dark Sector. There, Terex will find his revenge and Elaina will find a cure for her sister.

The two of them do not look for love. They have written off their will to be with someone. Unfortunately they will land on a strange planet where Terex has to play the role of Master and Elaina the role of his slave. There their feelings and their self-sacrifice will make them reconsider their attitude towards love.
Kindred Goddess has the last word.

This book is surely familiar territory for me. It is based on the same concept of all the series books and it has the same structure. It is nice revisiting this world and meeting again my favorite characters.

An additional plus for the book is the fact that both Terex and Elaina are mature characters. They certainly know what they are looking for from their lives and they are willing to make sacrifices wholeheartedly because they are experienced and wise. This is something that comes with age.

P.S. How much hotter can these book covers get?

Three and a half from me
It's been quite some time since I've read a story about the Kindred and with this book in so many ways I feel the author has gone back almost to the beginning of her series. Terex played such a vital role in earlier storylines and if absolutely frank he wasn't exactly the guy who would have you cheering him on. He fell under the influence of a demonic type creature and then later when things seemed to be sorted fell foul of the Dark Kindred known as Two. Two left his body irrevocably changed but more than that it left Terex a shadow of the warrior he had previously been. In a very dark place Terex has struggled to regain his honour and sense of self worth but the possibility of finally ending the dirty work wrought by Two leads him to finally step up and make a stand .
Elaina has no one really apart from her younger sister Gina and Gina's family. Yet as Gina is terminally ill and the family struggle to cope it's Elaina who seems to shoulder the burden. Summoned by a priestess of the Kindred Elaina is at a loss as to what they want but being told there's a chance of saving her sister if she undertakes a mission with Terex gives Elaina renewed hope. Slight problem though as Terex doesn't seem quite as keen but thrown together far from Earth they only have each other to depend on as they enter a galaxy that few ever come back from!
First off I have to commend the author on giving us a mature hero and heroine because the perfect , perky and undoubtedly beautiful heroines can be so monotonous . Terex not only feels he has let his race down but also suffers the torment of believing it was his behaviour that helped kill his wife. So the last thing he is expecting is the insane attraction that he feels for Elaina. Elaina has no love life as such and is aware that Terex is slightly less than happy she is with him but quickly sees the male of worth that he is. Unfortunately his slight arrogance lands them in a situation that seems to fulfil part of a prophecy . It's such a misogynistic place they end up that I'm loathe to say too much. I can say it's Elaina that felt the most comfortable with her sexuality and even though Terex wants her his beliefs stymy him at times. They are tested and even though it's a terrible thing expected of them together they do find their answers.
I'm so pleased the author went back to Terex as he did seem a bit of a scapegoat . What is most intruiging though is the epilogue as it's clear there's a whole new war about to come towards Earth with very icky enemies to fight!
A copy of this was provided for me which I have voluntarily read and these comments are my own honest opinion

Brides of The Kindred is one of my favorite series and Evangeline Anderson is a special author who never disappoints. In this story she exceeds her talents and creativity in so many ways. This is book 18 in the series and the author not only creates a fresh new story with each addition to the series, but also manages to tie in storylines, characters and fantastical settings from the past books making this series into more of an epic saga than individual books.

I was more than thrilled to have a book with the hero and heroine are more mature, both having had traumatic experiences and past relationships. This is as much about second chances, redemption, loyalty, hope and unconditional love as it is a sexy very exciting space romance/adventure.

It was time to tell Terex's story. He has survived having the demonic Two wreck havoc with his body (requiring him to have some enhanced replacements) and still struggles with the loss of his mate ten years ago. He vows revenge and to rid the world of the evil presence even if it costs him his life. A strong alpha hunky blood Kindred, Terex accepts the help of the priestess of the Goddess who resides in the Sacred Grove. He is more than surprised that the priestess has also demanded he undertake this mission with a human woman Elaina. Even though Terex feels this is an extra burden he doesn't need to bear now it is not within his power to challenge the Goddess (who has her own plans for the two).

Elaina has met Terex in a previous book Switched. She is now back on earth helping to care for her sister who is in the last stages of terminal cancer. Greif stricken and out of all answers on earth Elaina looks to the Goddess and her priestess for a way to cure her sister Gina.
The mission the Elaina and Terex must embark on takes them into the Dark Sector from which no known ships have returned.

The story takes us to a new world inhabited by a crazy twisted civilization where the answers to their quests can be found. Lots of sexual tension and the always 5***** hot scenes incorporated into the story (that no one can write better than Ms. Anderson), mixed with danger, suspense, shock, and exciting adventure will have you glued to the pages and probably reading through the night.
The epilogue introduces some glimpses into what is coming up in the next book as well as a blurb from Unbound.

Another verse, same as he first!

Yep, another similarly damaged, desperate pair thrust into a situation that demands they do things they're ashamed to (gah--enough with the fucking BDSM already!) to defeat an enemy and find their true love. Plus all the same sex scenes we've seen before. Does the goddess ever save anyone oh... just because it's a nice thing to do? Does Anderson plan to ever invest in a real editor before she dashes these things out?

Favorite bit this time around: I'd like to know what that aircraft's "steering yolk" looked like... Over easy or scrambled? Wow. Just... wow.

One of the best in the series

If you like alien bondage erotica, this book has your name on it.
It's not romance, it's not brilliant writing, but it is Evangeline Andersen at her best.

Oh, and did I mention the antagonist is Trump - I mean, Krumpf, the evil mysoginistic ruler of an alien planet that enslaves women using a mean sex virus?

What IS Evangeline Andersen at her best, you ask?

- actually non-trash characters: Terex and Elaina are both older and no-bullshit people who don't try to avoid talking to each other. Yes! Thank you, Evangeline!
- actually inventive worldbuilding: even after 18 books, AND spin offs, Amdersen still manages to come up with new weird planets animals societies plants religions, you name it. I certainly don't have that imagination. On the Evangeline world building scale, this book was really high up because she drew this world out of her pocket like a hat trick, and none of the people or lore or planets involved had ever been mentioned before. Amazing!
- actually non-trash sex scenes: one of my BIGGEST pet peeves in the Kindred series is when the mandatory hawt alien warrior and his idiot future mate are in a random society where they zre forced for some bullshit reason to suck each others nipples or whatever, and then, the idiot future mate AND the big hawt warrior both start monologuing and crying about it for pages and pages and pages. Come on! Are you twelve that you can't kiss a boy to a) save your life, b) save his life or whatever nonnegotiable incentive they are given. As for me, I would suck a toad's nipple if I had to if it meant getting out of some alien gulag, because surviving is GREAT! and I am a pragmatic adult. So if, instead, I am faced with either being executed by being eaten by worms (I think that was the threat in one of the books) and they gave me a hot warrior and told me I could get out of the execution thing by sucking his dick, do you honestly think I would hesitate? Yeah, no. I like surviving. And guess what, so do Elaina and Terex. These are some sensible, smart, pragmatic adults. They don't go around saying shit like "um yeah put your dick in my pussy but only the tip lol" or some other trash. They tell it like it is. Sucking dick is mandatory in the baths? Girl got you covered. I just love people in alien erotica who just do the shit they have to do to survive without being bitches about it.
- actually non-trash story: the plot was all new, the villain was all new, and he wasn't even some weirdo who looked for girls to breed with who need to come specifically from Tampa on planet earth. Actually cool story. I liked it.

The ONLY thing I wish would have happened is having some more background, or an epilogue, for poor Zerena. That would have been nice.

Though I have been a die hard fan of Ms. Anderson for several years now, I was extremely disappointed in this author's jab at our president elect. If I wanted to read books about politics I would purchase political books, but I don't want to read about that! I want to get away from it and be able to amerce myself in something that has nothing to do with this life we are living in. Good grief can't people just let things go already. I hope and pray this author doesn't make it a habit of putting in her political views and jabs in her future stories or this will be the last book I ever purchase from this author.
All in all without the political nonsense this story was very unique, interesting idea about a man-made virus that diminishes the woman's ability to do anything other than crave what most would never crave. Very different path taken on the kindred but almost similar to one of the other books where the females were dominate and not the males.

Maybe I'm at the end of my Brides of the Kindred journey ... for awhile at least, but I couldn't make it through this one. I'm leaving it unrated, because although I got very far along, don't really feel like I was able to get into it enough to rate it.

This series has been addictive (even though I actually haven't loved many of them—it's the weirdest thing), but this one didn't do it for me.

It was really good. As you can see, I read Uncharted in 2 days, and I don't typically read books that quickly anymore. I was amazed at how fast the first two hundred pages flew by. I almost can't believe the book was 446 pages??

As usual, Evangeline excels at writing plots. A lot of romances lack a good plot, which is fair since romance is a story of how two people fall in love and the plot usually takes a backseat to that. I like how in Anderson's books, the plot never suffers as a result of the romance.

The only thing I would have changed was more conversation between Terex and Elaina about their pasts, which is a common complaint I have for most romance books. For instance, what was Elaina doing at the HKR building in Tampa? What did she do beforehand? What did she study?

Terex has been a Kindred featured on and off consistently in the previous books. I'm glad he finally got a second chance for love and that Evangeline wrote his story. He always struck me as this serious guy, and not that this book disabused me of that notion, but I thought Elaina was a good match for him. They were both on the edge of forty. Normally, I'm not the biggest fan of older love (though I think it's great IRL, just not for reading about it), but I really liked this one. Their age wasn't made a big deal.

The end made me cry. I read something wrong and thought that all hope was lost, lol.

I am not too sure how I feel about this story ...

Commander Terex has been popping up in various Kindred stories for quite some time. So far, his life has seen miserable things one after another. Terex lost his beloved mate, was then possessed by the demon Ur, and then attacked and maimed by Two. His life is in turmoil, and all he wants is vengeance on Two's Clone. With his mission set out in front of him, and the real possibility of not coming back alive, Terex did not expect to be sexually distracted by an Earth female.

Elaina Thornton will do anything to help her terminally ill sister, anything. When a prophesy is spoken giving her an opportunity to find a cure, she jumps at the chance. However, now she just has to find a way to work with Commander Terex to make sure she gets it, and back home to Earth before her sister dies.

Terex is not my type of man. Yes, he is attractive, manly, a Blood kindred, and loyal. However his attitude and die hard complexity does not do it for me. I first thought of Terex and Elaina as Chalk and Cheese. They did not meld toghether as easily as some of the previous couples. I haf a hard time getting into theirnstory, and reading throughnsome of their "intimate" scenes.

The major let down was the type of world they found themselves on. It is the opposite of Yonnie Six. Rather than being female dominated, it is dominated by egotistical machoistic men who treat women as nothing more than to scratch an itch. And don't get me started on their King! A major turnoff, full of greed, lust, and jealously. I do think this world could have been thought out a little better. It lacked the vibrancy and complexity of Yonnie Six, and felt dull. Very simple and boring. Maybe it was meant this way? But I found this world needed something else to make it feel better or appear mysterious in some way? Not sure ...

I found in the end the story was readable, but very mechanical in some places. It felt staged during some of the sexual scenes, especially the royal baths. I also did not enjoy their royal feast, it felt like you were attending a banquet with feral beasts.

I am glad in some way there was an ending and a mating. A pity we did not learn more about the Kindred who are now called The Lost. I am just glad that Two had an ending, Elaina's sister was saved, and the male dominated world was released from the current reign of monarchy.

Bring on the next story!

Another out-of-this-world Brides of the Kindred story!! 4.5 stars

Commander Terex has not had an easy life. He has been inhabited by a demon, and is just now getting an eye and a thumb replaced after a battle with a Dark Kindred who maimed him to get access to the Mother Ship’s restricted areas.
His mate Solange has been dead for ten years now.

Elaina is desperate to save her sisters life. Though Kindred medicine is more powerful than human; it still could not eradicate the cancer quickly destroying her sister. The priestess of the Sacred Grove calls these two to take a journey together to solve both their issues – maybe. For the priestess always talks in riddles.

They must go into the Blind from where no one ever returns. Their personal journeys, their relationship journey and the dangers and challenges presented make for intriguing reading.

Not for the faint of heart – their destination is a rather misogynistic place.

Commander Terex was just recovering from being taken over by the demon Two and all he had on his mind was revenge. So when the priestess tells him she knows where he can go to get it he is all on board...well until she also tells him he has to take Elaina along to have a successful mission. He does not need the distraction. He wants to finish the mission and hopefully die while doing it a female was not on his agenda. Especially a female who he has feelings for.
Elaina will do anything to save her sister even go on a mission with the grumpy Commander Terex. The last thing on either of their minds is love but the Goddess has so much more in store for them.

I would recommend this book. It moves along steady and keeps your interest and if you like hot Kindred men who will do anything for their women you will too.

Thank you, Evangeline

I have been challenging Ms E to gives an emotionally mature heroine who didn't squeal and simper. I was tired of the promotion of physical abuse being idealized as good sex. Ms E gives a mature heroine that teams up w/ her partner in adventure Terex. They work together w/o the drama and whinny, childish insecurity of recent heroines. I swear she worked on all the points I made about recent books. Not only did she do it but she did a great job. She did include BDSM but showed it in a positive light of partners communicating and electing to do this alternative sexual style. I am so proud of this work!

Over all very good story

I gave it 4 stars because I was hoping that the love over 40 was going to play more of a prominent role in the story.
Except for the mention of their ages and a few other things it could have been a younger couple. I rather like love over 40 stories because I'm in this age bracket myself and was looking for a little more. That being said I really liked Elaina she was strong and courageous. Terek beat himself up a bit too much but I still enjoyed the character over all. I just feel like something was missing. I did however enjoy the ending. Two got what he deserved, so did that idiot Krumf!

Great Book!

Poor Commander There's has gone through so much during his life. He lost his mate, was inhabited by a demon, was mutilated by Two. He thought that Two was dead and he met a human woman who stirred things in him that he thought were long dead. Then he finds out that Two used one of the Scrounge vats to make a very large body for himself and planted his mind into it. He gives himself a mission to find this creature and destroy it before he ends his own life. You will have to read the book to find out if his plans go his way or if the Goddess has other plans for him.

Yes!! I love me some Kindred!!
Another awesome book in the Kindred series. Terex a blood Kindred who is ready to die after tying up loose ends with an evil scion is put together with Elaina who will do anything to save her sister who is dying of cancer. Hot sex scenes, multiple dilemmas, sexual tension galore, an evil alien trying to keep women down. Terex & Elaina delve into alternate sexual activities. Did I say hot? Wow! Anderson never lets you down. What an awesome series! I'm already ready for another one!

I enjoyed the fact that Commander Terex got his own story. After everything that has been done to him, the author gave him a fitting story (and explained why he doesn't look like a blood Kindred on the cover - which was upsetting until the reason was revealed). Taking the Kindred to a place they have never been before and introducing a new dynamic between a Kindred couple made for an interesting story. The dangers for this couple seem to be around every corner and kept me turning pages. It's a good addition to the series but my favorite is still Sought.

This book has given another aspect of the life of a Kindred Warrior. A leader who has been attacked repeatedly and is sick and tired of it. He simply wishes an honorable death and he hopes to take his worst enemy with him when he goes.

A woman is looking for a cure, she knows her only hope may be the Kindred people. She seeks and the two of them are thrust into a mission together.

I know this review is a bit sporadic, but I am trying not to give things away.

An enjoyable read as always Evangeline manages to hold your attention without losing it in the little details.

Can’t believe I wasted my money on this. After the buildup of two books I was sucked into thinking the resolution would be epic. What a disappointment. Fortunately I bought the audible version - set it to 3x the speed so I could get through the drivel. Author has written engaging stories but this isn’t one of them. Predictable from the word go, childish and pointless, in my opinion. Can think of a million better ways this could have gone, all without the degrading fantasy this author seems stuck in. To each his/her own but this one lacked substance and any kind of meaning.

Wow! 5+*

These Kindred stories just keep getting better and better with each book. Of course we want more. Uncharted was very well written and very interesting. Once you start to read this story you will not put it down. The intertwining of the characters and their development throughout the book is enough. You'll want to read straight to the end. Yes, I highly recommend this book.

Main characters were taken on a harrowing journey by The Goddess to an unknown world to meet their destiny. Terex was on a path of vengeance and Elaina was shouldering the goal of a cure for her terminally ill sister Gina. The planet they were sent to consisted of misogynistic males and if this is not the reader's cup of tea then shy away. This is a very intense plot but the ending was worth the reading to the finish.

I enjoyed this book. I !liked the characters in this book. I feel but upset about the lady's in book being put into a need situation to with need and disliked the idea right from the start of the book. I was amazed how quickly I finished the book too which is not like me. I liked the colour cover of the book very much, the colour of my cross stitch threads. I dreamed about the details book too some nights. Other good book Evangeline Anderson.😀

And with a new big bad in space, The Hive, whose leader is really disgusting bring on book 19 and the smexy fun.

Sci-Fi Romance!!!

Another enjoyable Kindred romance with just the right amount of heat, action, and fantasy. Book closes out one story arc of the Brides of the Kindred series and introduces us to the next ominous threat to the Kindred race.
If you enjoy steamy, sci-fi romance then you will enjoy this series and this book.

Uncharted

Going behind the blind.
Elaina is on a mission to find the little healer.
She doesn't know what it is, but she needs it desperately for her gravely ill sister.
Terex is on a mission to hunt down Two and kill him.
The story is about what happens and what they have to do to reach their goals.

Ok so I wouldn't have gone the way the author did, but I'm not mad at her. I was hoping that that my favorite abused Kindred character would find love, and she only took a small detour. I wish she would have left him a regular guy but oh well. So on to the next book and new bad guys. Hopefully the author will make her rehash people a little more interesting.

After reading all of the previous books, I was surprised where this one led to (the planet where they spent most of their time). Surprised but not disappointed. Evangeline Anderson is such an amazing storyteller and world builder! I hope Brides of the Kindred never ends.

Can we get more like her please
