DNF Filled with fun facts and places to see and visit yet I wasn't impressed. The authors divide the book into two sections for Eastbound and Westbound I-70. The only problem is many of the listed items can for both directions. It's really annoying to learn a bit about a site then being told to flip to the other section to learn more about something mentioned. If you are going to talk about a town on I-70 it wouldn't be hard to just dedicate a few pages to the whole town not just random bits scattered in different sections. The other thing I really disliked was some of the things included. Turkey Vultures, Tornados, and barns what a way to make Kansas seem so interesting in the first few pages. Those items are listed in the Westbound section so if your driving Eastbound you're out of luck on such fascinating objects. First no matter what road you travel in Kansas you're bound to see Turkey Vultures Circling. Second the chances of seeing a tornado traveling along I-70 is extremely slim. Third there are barns everywhere almost just point me to more unique ones then the ones that are common. A part of me wonders if the authors are native to this state or moved here? Maybe the next edition can include a blade of grass from the Eastbound or Westbound side I am sure that is worthy of a paragraph. Still though it does have a bunch of lesser known facts which I did enjoy.
If you are driving across Kansas on I-70 and have someone else in the car, bring this book to point out some of the sites along the way and read out the descriptions. Definitely adds interest to the drive. Learned some things as well. Never would've known that there was an artillery piece capable of firing atomic shells overlooking the highway.
The authors provides a lot of interesting trivia of places located along I-70. However, they provide duplicate lists of trivia, one for travelers heading eastbound, the other heading westbound. For the most part, the second list duplicated the information that's in the first list or simply refers back to the first entry, making the second list superfluous. Only in a few cases is additional information given, which means readers have to check in two places for each location.
