Love can be so... unexpected. In the spring of 1935, understated beauty Eva Edwards is widowed. A blessing to be sure. Having long since left England, a rare talent for music and notions of love behind, her one focus is keeping her farm and raising a child not her own-no matter the sacrifice and struggle. Born of wealth, veterinarian Tate Prescott Brown has come to the dust of Saskatchewan's rural Qu'Appelle District to find independence and take possession of his farm-Eva's farm. Now, in an effort to solve a legal misunderstanding, Tate faces a sacrifice and struggle of his own: to do what he thinks is right by Eva ... or what's right for his heart. Reviews and Other Information: "Historical readers will take pleasure in the unique setting of this story and romance readers will find the blossoming relationship between Eva Edwards and Tate Brown irresistible... all the elements I love in a good historical romance... a wonderful setting, good, strong characters and a romance to take your breath away." -Simply Romance Reviews
The winner of her city’s writing award in 2011, Ryshia Kennie’s novels have taken her characters from the depression era prairies in her first book “From the Dust” to a across the globe and back again. There’s never a lack of places to set a story as the too long prairie winters occasionally find her with travel journal in hand seeking adventure on foreign shores. While facing off a Monitor Lizard before breakfast or running through the Kasbah chased by an enraged Water Carrier aren’t normal travel experiences and might never find a place in one of her stories, they do make great travel stories. When not collecting odd memories from around the world, she’s writing mainly romantic suspense and women’s fiction. For more, visit her website at http://www.ryshiakennie.com.
As predictable and quaint as From the Dust was, I totally bought into this wonderful love story between Eva and Tate. It is a classic romance novel with beautiful and poignant images painted by well crafted sentences.
Despite the fact that there was nothing at all surprising or original in the plot, it was so well written that I couldn't help falling in love with Tate and Eva and the cast of supporting characters. As a man, I especially empathized with Tate and his inability to simply go with his feelings and claim what he wanted when it was right there in front of him. He very nearly blew it and Eva, too made it so much harder. Pride and logic interfered with their relationship, and they needed a lot of strong prompting from the well meaning matchmaker Hilda.
Author Ryshia Kennie masterfully conveyed the emotions of Tate and Eva, and I thought their love making scene was one of the most beautiful I have ever read. A great romance novel. If I read any more of this caliber, I could easily become a fan of the genre, instead of simply a casual sampler.
I love historical novels and i was really excited when i won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. However, I had some difficulties getting in to the story in the begging. First of all, I found it confusing the way the narrators change so suddenly, especially between Tate and Eva. Sometimes i had to read a paragraph several times to figure out who said what. I also found Tate really annoying and Eva to harsh and i had a hard time picturing them together. But as I got into the story, I really started to like the characters and the way Tate and Eva learned more about them selves and each other. Their relationship was very sweet. I also enjoyed the way the whole town seemed to interferre and help the two main characters. The story was a sweet read once I got into it and I really loved how it ended.
I give this one 3.5 stars. This is the first book I have read with it taking place on a prairie. I have never seen it and do not know much about it. It was interesting. It took me a while to get into the story, but I enjoyed it. I loved Eva! She would do whatever she had to for her family. She had a hard life before Tate came along. I admired her drive. I liked Tate too, but some of the things he did irritated me even though I mostly understood why he did them. I liked how the secondary characters looked after Eva and Maggie. I would recommend it. :)
Wow! I loved this story. Characters held my attention and I really enjoyed the time in which this book is set. Thank you so much for allowing me to read your book in e-form.
Even though this genre is not really my cup of tea, I still loved the neat narration and structure of characters. I love it when the heroine is an independent woman, capable of handling things on her own, so I would definitely recommend it to someone who shares this opinion, regardless of their genre preferences.
