I have read most of J.C. Valentine's books, which are mainly romance, and love all of them. After reading this one I am beginning to wonder if there is anything that J.C. Valentine is not good at writing. This story had me on the edge of my seat and wondering what was going to happen towards the end. It ended with a twist that I never saw coming making for an awesome read the whole way through. I can't wait for more of these from J.C. Valentine!!

I don't want to give much away about the story bec

"He didn't see AJ anywhere on his way to the school. He hadn't been waiting for him outside the house, and he wasn't walking along the side of the road, either. The whole drive to school was a gut clincher because as James passed the spot where he had picked up Virginia, the only thing he could think of was how bent on getting her into the car AJ had been. And when he passed the spot where he'd let her out, he remembered the fear in her eyes...and then how AJ had gotten out soon after. Had he fo ...more

James has moved back home after moving away several years ago. He isn’t happy with the move, but he is happy to see his best friend again. After a few days, girls are going missing and everything points to James.

This book is so different than the other books I’ve read by this author, but it was still so good. This book had me at the edge of my seat until the end. It was not smart of me to start this book when I went to bed, because I kept turning the pages and I read way past my bedtime. I was c

I love a good mystery and this book did not disappoint.

James lives in a small town and who doesn't have many friends and tries to fit in at school. His family then leaves town. Ms. Valentine did a great job of creating great characters that you will get to know and feel for in this story. You will feel for James as he deals with many tough situations. To me a character makes a story and these characters did not disappoint.

If you are looking for romance this is not the story. Instead you get a m

Brilliantly crafted story that is very hard to review. I don’t want to give away any of the amazing twists in this suspense filled novel. As a kid, James struggled to make friends and then one day, out in his favorite spot in the woods, he meets AJ. They become fast friends and he finds comfort hanging out with AJ. As we get to know James, we learn he’s seen as the nerd at school and gets bullied. Then his family moves away so he loses his only friend, AJ. When they return to town 5 years later, ...more

If you're interested in something slightly less romantic and high on suspense and intrigue, than Buried Secrets is for you. It's full of twists and turns keeping you guessing what will happen next so that you're on the edge of your seating while holding your breath.

A man returns home after some years away, makes new friends and reconnects with an old one, catching the eye of a pretty girl. But girls are being taken and things aren't what that seem on the surface. As the mystery grows, things wil

This is NOT a romance and a very different book for J.C. Valentine to write but it was very good and freaked me out a bit! James has returned to the small town, Oakridge, after five years. His abusive father and submissive, quiet mom thought it was time to return and James is there to complete his last year of high school. His best friend from when he was younger, AJ, is the first person to greet him. And, that's all I'm going to say because anything more will give the story away. So be ready to ...more

This book was a big change of pace from the other books I have read by this author. All the others have been romance and this one was a mystery/suspense story. I will say that it was a quick read and kept my attention. I am only giving it 3 stars because I figured out what was going to happen in the story pretty early on. I think I have read a similar story before. All in all it was not a bad read, just be aware that if you usually read Ms Valentine's work and know her for romance, this one is n ...more

I've read quite a few romance novels by this author so when I saw that she had written something a little different I jumped at the chance to see what else she could write. Boy did this story deliver!

It has a shit ton of suspense, I kept turning the page dying to know what was going to happen next. It packs a punch if you're looking for a story that has it all.

At first I thought I knew what was going on with James, turns out I knew NOTHING, which is ok because it made me love the book

J. C. Valentine is an amazing writer. This was a totally different kind of story that I normally read from her. It's not a type of story that I would normally read. It was very interesting, and I had to know what happened. Which I didn't know the full story until the very end. It is an intense, complex who-done-it book. To me, it's dark. If you like this kind of books, then you'll love it. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

First, let me start off by saying this is the best psychological thriller I have ever read. This has no romance but it is a twisty, turny book that will leave you on the edge of your seat. This is the best non-romance book by JC Valentine I have ever read. A definite must read!!

It's been awhile since I've read just a thriller/suspense book and this one did not disappoint. I've only read one other book by this author and it was nothing like this, (I loved them both). I won't make this super lengthy as you really should read it for the full effect without any spoilers or knowledge of anything that happens. This is one of those books that has you on edge and kind of reeling, at least for me. I love not knowing any details or anything when digging into these types o

I’ve read most of J.C.’s book and I’ve loved every single one of them. But this one is different. It’s not a romance book at all, but it’s not bad either! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I read it and quite frankly I couldn’t get enough. Books like this usually aren’t my thing, but I grabbed it because it had J.C’s name on it. And when her name is on something you know it’s going to be good!!! And it was… I’m leaving this review vague… if you want to know what it’s about I highly s

I have read most of this author's work which are mainly romance novels. This mystery suspense psychogical thriller is very different but it's quite a ride. Beautifully executed!

James is a scrawny thirteen year old who keeps to himself. He doesn't have any friends until he meets AJ in the woods where he always finds solace. They become good friends until James moves away from the small town of Oakridge, round about the time of the disappearance of a young girl. Something that haunts him!

How do you accurately review a really good psychological suspenseful thriller and give it the due it deserves? "Buried Secrets" is not my usual genre, but I enjoyed it immensely. Told primarily thru James, the main character, J.C. weaves lots of twists and turns in her description of events both current and in the past of small town Oakridge. Girls missing, murders uncovered, a ghost that makes an appearance, and lots of those weaves completes this story that will keep you reading and turning pa ...more

I have read several of J.C. Valentine's book and they are mostly romance. This book is eerie and suspenseful. A who done it kind of book. I thought I had figured out who the "Who Done It" person was until I go to the end and was blown out of the water. WOW. I was looking for something different to read, and boy did this one fit the bill! Secrets and mystery abound through each page of this thriller. James is returning to the town he and his family left years ago. This isn’t a move James wanted. He doesn’t have good memories of the town of Oakridge. When he returns, he finds things on the surface are different. He is making friends easier this time, and he has a girl who is interested in him. He also runs into an old friend, but things aren’t always ...more

This is my first time reading a book by Valentine, I think she is very skilled with the written word however by the author's own claim, this book was labeled "heavy on the suspense". Unfortunately I knew exactly where it was going halfway through the prologue so there was no suspense for me. this is why I can only give it one star.
Chasing Away Reality
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Readers Copy of this book.

As with all the books I read, I went into Buried Secrets blind having not read the synopsis. The prologue pulled me in and had me itching to find out where this story was going. From the start, I had this creepy crawly feeling in regard to James and AJ. And the further I went through James's journey, the more everything just seemed a bit off. While I found it well written, it was a bit predictable. Of course, I imagine it might not fee

He returns years later. Only to be thrown back into another string of missing girls. He admits that he is not involved but town locals think otherwise.

Definitely full of intriguing mystery around each corner. You think you have an idea about what's going on, but in the end it's like life do you really know?
After leaving Oakridge, the town he'd grown up in and moved away to Ohio James was happier, until his father moved them back. There were too many memories he'd buried about this place, he just wanted out and never to return. This is definitely not a love story, but well a well written suspenseful mystery. J.C. Valentine ca

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Oh I really enjoyed this book. It was thrilling and creepy. I was so hooked on the main character James and all his struggles after moving back to his hometown. Things were happening around him that were crazy and left you questioning everything. Although I felt that the ending was blatantly obvious, I was praying for a different outcome to help me cope. 4 1/2 STARS

I gave this book 4 1/2 STARS because even though there were twists and turns, and I didn't want to put the book down, I wasn't completely blown away from the twists. Yes, some of them I didn't see coming but some I did.

I've read almost all of her books and I actually liked seeing this side of her writing. It's not a romance but more suspenseful. I would recommend this book and while reading it, I actually pictured it as a movie. Great job JC!!!

I have to say I was completely blown away! This book exceeded every expectation and kept me on the edge of my seat. The twists and turns are perfectly placed throughout the story and it truly kept me turning page after page. This book is brilliant and the characters are completely intriguing.

J.C. Valentine is the USA Today and International bestselling author of the Night Calls and Wayward Fighters Series and the Forbidden Trilogy. Her vivid imagination and love of words and romance had her penning her own romance stories from an early age, which, despite being poorly edited and written longhand, she forced friends and family members to read. No, she isn't sorry.
