This is an invaluable resource for understanding and dealing with the numerous possible illnesses and issues experienced by children. The writing is not overly clinical, but provides easy-to-understand explanations and suggested home-care techniques. A common theme appears to be how to avoid unnecessarily bothering your pediatrician (though also when it is necessary to seek emergency care).
If I needed to make a criticism, it would be the book's tolerance (and even support) of sugar - at one point mentioning it should be used as a reward. Also on the somewhat controversial side is the suggestions to stay out of your child's homework. Otherwise, it covers a large territory from how to avoid spoiling your child, to what you should and shouldn't buy when you become a parent. I even learned useful first aid for jellyfish stings - the book has it all!

This book is extremely useful. It is also no-nonsense and tells things like they are. It will give you a straight answer for things like "Is that object my kid just ate poisonous." And it gives clear guidelines on things like when to take a child to the doctor and when to weather the storm at home.

Recommended by our pediatrician, and I've used it until the cover is falling off. The section on discipline is somewhat off-base in my opinion, but any parent can easily read that section, glean what they need from it, then read another book or talk to another mentor to get a discipline system that is more grounded in their own beliefs and more in line with their parenting style.

The medical information, though, is priceless.

In true new-parent fashion, this was recommended in our paperwork from the pediatrician, so I ran out and ordered it. It's definitely extensive and probably answers every question you could ever come up with. However, like most moms in 2018, I've found myself forgoing the reference text and googling all of my questions. Googling is both a blessing and a curse. This simple book shoots it to you straight and you know you can trust the answers. I didn't find it necessary, but it's definitely helpful.

As a first-time parent this has really been a big help. Lorena's pediatrician recommended we buy this and I always check it before I call the doctor or advice nurse. It even has good info on general care and discipline of infants and children. It's certainly saved me many freak-outs an trips to the doctor's office!

I received an older version of this book from Lynna's Peditrician when she was born. I bought this updated version a few years ago and still use it frequently. It has wonderful advice on everything from bites and blisters to discipline issues. It has been an invaluable resource.

Exhaustive in infant to adolescent coverage from pacifiers to lice treatment to general arguments against spanking. Was recommended to me by our pediatrician. Sometimes veered on to the overly-conservative (no swimming lessons until 4? No R rated films until well above 13?), but generally great.

For basic health information, this is an excellent guide. It lists symptoms so finding out what is going on is easy.
