"The Good Dictator I: The Birth of an Empire (Volume 1): by Foncalo JN Dias is my first read from this author. The story will grab your attention and keep a hold of it. There is so much to this book. If you read the exert you'll get a general idea of the story. The real gem is actually digging into this story with its many twists and turns. I seriously didn't want to put this down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next.

So Gonçalo contacted me and I automatically became intrigued with what the book was about that I just couldn't say no. I begun the book a while ago but had to put it on pause whilst I read other books but once I got back to this book I simply could not put it down.

Straight away we are swept up into the world and ways of our main character Gustavo, its done in such a way that we can identify with him. I connected with him instantly, in no specific way for a while but somehow I just felt like Gust

An intriguing tale of suspense and mayhem, "The Good Dictator," is more than an alien invasion apocalypse. Author Goncalo J. Nunes Dias delivers an extraordinary tale of human perception and survival. A mysterious green object lands on the moon, however no one including the authorities believe the device may be cataclysmic. A ordinary man, Gusavo, and a few of his friends, decide to formulate a survival tactics, just in case. This is not an easy task, because everyone else thinks he is being som ...more

Dystopian fiction is experiencing a rush of popularity in the wake of Brexit and Trump so I think The Good Dictator is a particularly well-timed read and scarily prescient in many of its scenes. Set in Portugal, the novel offers a European view of pre- and post-apocalyptic society which is interestingly different from similarly themed American offerings. It is very much an indie novel so there are problems with pacing and excessive irrelevant

A apresentação do informático, Gustavo, é divinal, bastante bem elaborada.

I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The first thing I noticed was that The Good Dictator either wasn’t written in English, or had been but English isn’t the author’s first language. There were some issues with tenses and plurals at the beginning, and some language discrepancies that made the plot a little muddled. For example, at one point Gustavo says that his wife is a good Mother to his boys/sons, but a few pages later you discover that Gustavo and his wife

Before I go into the detail of this review, I want to state up front that the original novel was written in Portuguese and that the English version, that I’ve read, may not reflect the same quality of work. For Gonçalo Nunes Dias’ sake, I truly hope that the original version isn’t nearly as riddled with typos and confusing sentences which have most likely been generated due to a direct translation.

The Good Dictator follows an average Joe, Gustavo, as the world learns of the existence of an alien

Excellent Story, with a very interesting plot. I love a book that gets you thinking, and this one certainly grabbed my attention. I like the way the Author has portrayed Gustavo as a character, and I really enjoyed following him throughout this story. You would have thought he was just an average bloke, a little quirky, but he’s certainly not average. Gustavo hates his in laws, doesn’t love his wife anymore, and is happy to cruise in a job where he only puts in half a day’s work. However, this g ...more

Action filled

A unique approach to the rise of the world from the latest end of the world. This is a book that portrays the accuracy of human nature and the will to survive. It's the start of an intended trilogy and I look forward to reading what comes next. This book has strong characters and great chemistry between them. It's a compelling story and a very ambitious book. I like that it has twisted several genres in one, and it connects very well.

The life of this character is full of contradictory information and rumours. Both his date of birth and home town are uncertain. Some say he hails from a suburban ghetto in Lisbon (Portugal); while others claim that he was born in eastern Russia, in the city of Vladivostok, sometime in the ‘60s.

According to gossips, he worked for the Reagan Administration in the early ‘80s, and helped to weaken th
