Time is running out for Miss Madeline Prescott. Her father has given her an ultimatum, marry the suitor of his choice, a man thrice her age, or find her own by months end. She will have to resort to extreme measures. Men are not lining up to court the girl known as Mad Maddie. There is only one man she could possibly convince to marry her, a rake so disillusioned with love that he might consider her strange offer of marriage to relieve the burden of having to marry at all. All she had to do was ask…

If Lord Jonathan Rigsby, future Earl of Heath, considered her proposal for even one second, he would prove himself to be as mad as Mad Maddie. Questionable sanity aside, after some consideration he agrees to court her and see if her plan holds water. What he finds is that Maddie is more than mad. She is brave, intelligent, and kind. If he isn’t going to marry for love, marrying Maddie is the next best thing.

They embark on a whirlwind courtship to convince both their families of the match, but neither anticipated the intense passion that would spark between them, or the powerful emotions involved when pretending to fall in love...

Dayna Quince was only fourteen when she developed a serious addiction to romance novels. What began as an innocent desire to read became an all-out obsession with the romance genre. She gave book reports on romance novels, got in trouble for reading during lectures, and would rather spend her time reading than attending high school parties. After all, high school boys could not compete with the likes of Stephanie Laurens' Devil Cynster.

After getting her first job, her addiction only got worse. She now had her own money to spend and a car to get to Barnes and Noble as frequently as she wanted. She managed to maintain a somewhat normal life, marrying her high school boyfriend, who was aware he was competing with fictional men for her attention. She soon began writing her own romance novels, inspired by her love for all things romance.

Dayna and her family live in Southern California with their two children and three fur babies. She is happiest at home, where she can be with her family and write to her heart’s content.

Also published under Ella J. Quince and D.L. Rose.

Lord Jonathan Rigsby is suffering from a broken heart. Miss Madeline Prescott is looking to get away from her father and his manipulations. She doesn't understand why he is arranging a marriage with a much older man she has no interest in marrying. Maddie proposes a bargain with Johnathan, a marriage of convenience. He agrees and becomes the protector she's never had. What neither expected was to fall in love.
Possible trigger-physical and verbal abuse.
Mild descriptive sex.

This is one of those stories where the hero/heroine are trying desperately not to fall in love with each other. Even as they are trying to persuade both of their families that the courtship is real, Maddie and Jonathan have a hard time accepting the truth themselves.

I love the relationship between these two characters. They are both so likable. Maddie, though scorned by society, makes her own path and her own choices. Jonathan admires her strength and her intelligence. I love their conversations, and the admiration and respect they have for one another.

This is quite a compelling story that draws you in from the beginning and holds you until the end. Though there were a number of errors in the copy I read, I was so caught up in the story that they didn’t distract me as they usually do. The story is very well-developed. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

This was a really hard book for me to read. I guess because of the way poor Maddie was treated by family. It makes me sad to think that her and other women like her were treated like broodmares and a way to replenish family coffers after the males of the family wasted their fortunes. Thankfully Maddie and Jonathan cling to each other and discover that sometimes you experience a heartache so that someone better for you can come along beside you. Love Dayna Quince. R. K. Carulli

I think this was my favorite of the series so far.

Not sure how historically accurate this was and there were some issues which I think an editor could've helped with, but I noticed these were self published, so I would say very good quality for that. And sort of just what I needed...

Awesome!

This is the best book, that I have read in two weeks, considering I read 4 to 5 books a week, that is saying something! What a great story, unusual, funny, and romantic! The honeymoon scene is the most beautiful that I have read! I highly recommend! Thanks Enjoy!
