Great character! I gave up on the original book that this is a companion to and read this one first. It was the only way I could stomach the horrible heroine! Reading it from Carlos eye's helped give me a reason to finish. Carlos’ Peace is another fantastic addition to the companion novels of the Judgement of the Six series by Melissa Haag. I will admit that when I read (Dis)content, I wasn’t much of a Carlos fan. He was quiet, brooding, and a bit macho at times. As a reader, you literally have no idea what is going through his head, because he never expressed much. All you knew was that he was carrying some serious baggage from his past that made him this way. I was intrigued by him none the less. Therefore, having the chance to read this story from his point of view was enthralling. There is so much we don’t know about Carlos before this book, and we are finally able to add some more pieces to this Judgement puzzle.

As with most alternate POV novels, there is some repetitiveness, but Carlos brings a whole new perspective to himself. We learn so much about him, but is it weird that I still wanted more! We get in depth insight to why he is so closed off, what happened to his family, and how he started on the path of becoming an elder. When he is helping search for the missing Judgements he discovers one to be his mate. In a true twist of fate he must now learn how to let someone inside the walls he has built to keep every emotion out, but his wall does help him realize he is the perfect match for Isabelle, who is an empath that steals emotions from anyone around her. Not only that, but Carlos is a big, beefy wolf, and although he is quiet-he is mighty, which means he is perfect for sparring with Isabelle, whom needs to burn off the energy that she has consumed. It is almost like they are perfect for each other.

I have changed my mind and I am now firmly in the Carlos camp! I am still a little weirded out by his overbearing nature, but I think that is just my personal preference. It was hard to relive some of this book, as there is a lot of emotions, and a lot of plot furthering, but I am still extremely excited over coming closer to the end game. There is also an epilogue in this book that gives you insight into a certain beloved and important side character that you would be missing out on if you don’t read this book!

The Judgement of the Six series needs to be read in order, but you can immediately read the companion novels afterward each book. These companion novels can hold their own, but if you have only read the main series, I can’t recommend them enough. This series is some of the most fun and unique YA werewolf stories I have ever read, and I definitely highly recommend! The next book (Sur)real, will be the final installment in the Judgement of the Six series, and there will not be another companion novel, as the final book will be written in dual POV instead. I am so excited to finally figure out more about our final Judgement, as well as to see the Urbat get whats coming to them (I can only hope!). Carlos’ is arguably one of the most mysterious of all the companions in this series. We know almost nothing about him, and he didn’t appear until later on in the series. So getting to go inside his brain for once to figure out where he fits in with the entire Judgements Plan was eating at me until I finally got my hands on this book! Paired with the fact that he is the Mate of my favourite Judgement thus far, Isabelle, makes this by far my favourite companion book yet.

As always, Melissa’s writing was impeccable! If you haven’t read anything by her before, than you are lacking in your literal life. She has this amazing ability to add detail into her books that seem insignificant until you read the next book, or the companion book and see that that minor detail mentioned before is actually much more significant than you thought it would be. In fact, until you read it again through different eyes you had completely forgotten those pesky little details even existed until they rear their roaring heads. In short, Melissa Haag is a plot genius, her writing flowing effortlessly and sucking you into the story she has weaved, take my word on that.

Learning about Carlos, and his take of the events that take place in (Dis)content was amazing. Learning why Isabelle couldn’t pull from him, and the enormous weight on his shoulders made you love him even more than you did reading him from Isabelle’s eyes. You do learn a MAJOR detail about him and his family that was completely left out of any of the other books, and the outcome of that detail had me shaking a mental fist at Melissa, but without giving too much away you learn one of the reasons why Carlos’ acts the way he does. And it’s a biggy!

Perhaps the most loved character in the entire series, Ethan, makes a reappearance since it is a retelling of events we already know. We knew he was amazing from Isabelle, and we loved him because Isabelle loved him, but we also learn the extent of how amazing he really is after seeing his interactions with Carlos and learn of the sacrifices that he is willing to make for his best friend (/ love of his life’s) happiness. Ethan is up there with Jim on characters that make this series as amazing as it is.

And speaking of Jim, oh boy. Stay tuned for that Epilogue because it’s a doosy!!
Overall, this was an easy 5 stars. I highly recommend that you pick up Carlos’ Treasure ASAP because not only was it an amazing book, but the next and last book of the series, (Sur)real, is coming up quick and you don’t want to miss important details from this book before you reach the conclusion of this wonderful saga! ...more

so, this is hands down one of my top 5 series ever. good gravy, I freaking love it.

in saying that, Carlos is probably my least favorite of the guys. but going in, I expected to gain some incite into the mind of this stoic wolf for sure. and I did. I had zero clue what was going on inside of his mind. it was cool to see how Isabelle affected him too.

but still, all of that, though interesting, and entertaining, this story still isn't my favorite in the series based on the characters alone. but I ...more

Have to say I didn't enjoy this book as much as all the previous ones.
Carlos' attitude was incredibly irritating, and a little bit too caveman for my liking.
Nothing much happened in this book; seeing Isabelle's story from Carlos perspective was pretty dull at times, and didn't really do anything to add to the overall story in my opinion.
The "big twist" was somewhat interesting, but kind of became redundant by the end of the story, so I'm wondering what the point of adding it in was, unless it ...more

Best Companion Novel yet!!!!

Only Melissa Haag could write a companion book (goes over the same events from another book but in a different pov) and make it so completely different from the original that you dont feel you have even read the same things. Carlos' Peace is the fifth book in the Judgement of Six Companion series, it's Isabelle's part of the story but told from Carlos' pov. I really enjoy reading a story from a different (a love interest) pov, I think it adds to the story and gives information that I would never have had otherwise. It's familiar and comforting but a brand new story at the same time.

This book still reads so much as being ISABELLE's story told with Carlos' voice, instead of actually being Carlos' story. Don't get me wrong, it had some additional elements to the original story told in "Discontent," such as pieces about Carlos' sister—which we didn't know of in Isabelle's book— as well as that KILLER CLIFFHANGER EPILOGUE. Wow, wow, wow!! What are you doing to me Melissa Haag? The companion novels to the JoS series have been superb, and Carlos' Peace is no exception. So many surprises in this book! Carlos' personality and control make so much more sense now. In Isabelle's book, I didn't really like him. But now I understand why he has a place in our group of book boyfriends.

Melissa is wonderful at writing how these men have patience and love, something I didn't even know I liked until I read her books.

So, one thing I don’t get...they can feel each other’s emotions, but not sense secrets? I mean, Charlene keeps a huge secret from Thomas and Carlos keeps a huge secret from Isabelle. Poor Carlos and Sophia, that made me extremely sad. How is he just not going to tell his Mate about her though? Forever, yeah, but this, I’m keeping from everyone? That is weird. Jim is gonna be a fantastic Elder! Wish we had more books to see him in the role.

Love both series, but not a fan of such heartbreak.

I have read this and the sister series that preceded this. I have absolutely loved both and I’m actively searching down more titles by this author because of that. However, this book takes a turn to a much sadder, darker place. I will admit I am the happily ever after kind a girl, and such sadness turns down my enjoyment of the book.
