Wow I really hated this so so so so so much. I intended to quit it a couple times, but every review is so glowing, insisting the first half is iffy but that the POV change is magic and turns the whole thing around. So I pushed on. I understand what this story is trying to do with representation, but in the end it actually made it worse for me because I didn't feel like either character's safety was addressed. While I can see the intentions, and guess where the story is going, it doesn't alter for me how dangerous the BDSM depiction is. Some people can dismiss a lot of things as 'fantasy' but there was too much suffering going here for me to do that. Here are the problems I had with it:

I was willing to let slide the doctor having sex on an unsure patient (dubious consent) because I know this is a fantasy a lot of people have, or at least that I see played out in a lot of erotica. But the later reveal ends up making this much worse than how I initially read it.

The sub is pressured to sign a contract he doesn't understand, the Dom refuses to explain most of it and tells him he can research it.

The Dom is doctor who apparently hires his subs to work in his clinic where one harasses and threatens the sub. This is so unprofessional and so insulting to the idea of care, both as a doctor and as a Dom that it set the tone for the rest of the book for me. (I should have stopped here and DNF'd.)

While negotiating the sub is unsure and expresses a need for affection and emotional care that the Dom refuses and grumbles that the sub will need a lot of aftercare.

After the first real scene together, the Dom packs the sub off to the shower and isn't there when the sub returns. Telling your sub to clean up is not aftercare, especially on the heels of acknowledging how emotionally needy the sub is.

The Dom runs into the sub in public and threatens his friend, assuming they are on a date. After repeatedly asking the sub to respect the Dom's privacy, telling the sub this is a play time only thing the rest of their lives shouldn't come into it, and the sub can date who ever he wants. Literally no one in this story respects any boundaries.

Repeated pushing of soft limits, many of which are things the sub still doesn't really understand and has never never seen or experienced, the Dom insisting he knows what's best and the sub will like it. Between a pairing that has barely spoken to each other outside of sex and doesn't truly know each other, and where emotional needs are already being discarded.

This is particularly egregious in the use of restraints, which the sub is scared of or outright says he doesn't want, but the Dom does it anyway and says after that, essentially "see, you liked it."

The Dom, still refusing to explain anything, takes the sub out to lunch with friends and tells the sub to ask the Dom's friend's sub questions. Complete strangers the sub has never met before. And nothing gets explained in this meeting, beyond joking the sub is so new he will be a challenge for the Dom.

No concern at all for sub's response and recovery. On the 3rd or 4th meeting the sub has a day long play session, with minimal aftercare and then is taken to a sex clubs he's unsure about and really overwhelmed by. Every time he says he's unsure or requests a limit he is ignored.

Bad bad bad scene at the sex club, where some one else points out the sub is crying and maybe the scene has gone too far. The scene ends, the sub flees, drops badly, and then the Dom continues to scream in the sub's face that he's a liar for not safewording and that this is all his fault. (This book was honestly never going recover anything for me after this but I pressed on to see what the POV switch magic was.)

Later in explanation the Dom insists that others subs intentionally pushed him to get that angry response, and he assumed this sub was doing it too. So they've literally never talked about this stuff, the sub is green and new to the scene, and the Dom's attitude is is "oh well, you're such a natural sub that I assumed someone trained you, but they didn't so oh well, my mistake." Again they have never spoken of any of this. It hasn't been explained to the sub and the Dom repeatedly insists that the sub just needs to trust him.

The Dom says he doesn't do punishment as part of scenes, again right after saying that previous subs taunt him into it. And then does a terrible job of explaining the difference between really being angry, being punished for doing something wrong, vs. being punished because the Dom knows the sub wants it. Again the sub (in his POV) doesn't really understand and is unsure of continuing. The Dom gets angry and says the sub has to trust (based on WHAT!?!?!??! the lack of aftercare, the ignoring of limits, the screaming in his face that he's liar and it's the sub's fault?).

The Dom has a massive emotional meltdown in the big reveal that he has Asperger syndrome. The story implication is that we're supposed to say "oh well, it makes sense now." But look this Dom is saying he can not read human emotions at all so how did he know the sub wanted it when he first came in as a patient? How did know all those times he pushed past agreed on limits because he knew the sub would like it?

It's made clear that a full contract with a sub details this as a medical condition for the Dom and gives the sub instructions on what to do in the event of a meltdown. But this sub does not have a full contract and has never been told any of this. It's also implied it happened because the Dom's schedule was interrupted and that he requires a sub who will take flogging, pain, and other things (that are all hard limits our POV sub has), to meet him on regular schedule to prevent these meltdowns. And the regular sub who fills that roll has ended his contract after five years precipitating this emotional instability and subsequent meltdown.

Here the book switches POVs and the Dom ignores the sub's concerns about the meltdown, insisting that while he's been told it's scary the sub shouldn't be bothered and then pushes him into sex.

From here on I think we're supposed to be enjoying the sub's expanding of limits, his willingness to try things, and his reveals on dirty fantasies the Dom is willing to fulfill. But all of this is punctuated with the Dom's friend's repeatedly pointing out that his schedule is fucked, his support structure isn't in place, he doesn't have a real contract with this sub, and that all the conditions that led to the meltdown are worsening.

Meanwhile limits and boundaries are repeatedly being crossed, from both sides. More than the Dom ignoring agreed on scene limits (which happens often), the Dom has set his own boundaries which the sub repeatedly crosses. And the Dom's friends worry that this is all really unusual and not normal and the Dom ignores them, insisting he knows what's best for his sub's emotional care although he himself can not read emotions at all. The have repeated misunderstandings where both take conversations different ways which almost always leave the sub in some kind of distress, but despite that he can't resist the lure of a good fuck and because the fucks are getting better (crossing more agreed on limits and pushing this further without explanation) so the sub keeps coming back.

The heavy implication in the last chapters is that all this boundary crossing, and implosion of the Dom's schedule and rules is because he's falling for the sub. He says in his POV that he doesn't understand his actions/feelings, but makes a unilateral decision to upend his life even more for this irresistible sub. It's okay! This cute sub who knows nothing about the scene has melted the cold Dom's heart. The Dom who can't identify the subs's feelings, or parse his own, and is willing to ignore the warnings everyone is giving him, because love fixes everything.

Honestly I have no idea if this is good rep for Asperger syndrome. So little in fact that I'm possibly getting my criticism here wildly wrong. But one assumes that many readers are going to be neurotypical, and from that perspective this reads like "hey all this abuse of the sub's trust and emotional care is fine because the Dom doesn't understand he's doing it, but that's okay because they are falling in love based entirely on the strength of orgasms." And that isn't how BDSM works when it's done safely. If a Dom can't identify that their sub is truly in distress, even if the sub hasn't used a safeword, especially if the sub hasn't used a safeword, then the more extreme kinds of play aren't safe for anyone involved. Doms can use a safeword too if they think things are going too far, and this set up is telling us the Dom can't tell when things go too far and relies on the sub to cover that for both of them (demonstrated by screaming in the sub's face that he's liar for not safewording when he should have). But here the Dom also hasn't given the sub medical information to understand why the burden of stopping a scene is entirely on him.

Do I think there should be a lot more Asperger syndrome and Autism rep in fiction? Yes absolutely. In all kinds of fiction, in every aspect of fiction, even in BDSM fiction. But what happens in this story is hurtful and damaging to both parties, and worse we're supposed to see the breakdown of structure and boundaries as romantic. I'm angry for everyone's treatment in this story. No one is getting the attention, emotional care, boundary respect, and structure they need, while being in extremely volatile, sexually charged situations. But hey it's just kinky fantasy right? No need to worry because everyone gets off.

Anyway, I picked this up expecting lighthearted kink with an unexpected twist, and got story that made me so angry I can't stop thinking of things in it that upset me.

This is really the first two sections of a much longer book. I’m usually infuriated by books that leave things unresolved. However, this book has been quite a conundrum for me. I started out not liking it because Mitch seemed like a girl with male genitalia. Also I was not excited by the sex scenes.

As the book progressed all of that changed. The second book was from the doctor’s point of view. I don’t want to give away anything but suffice it to say it gets a lot more enjoyable. I’m afraid that I’m hooked.

I'm positive that these are wonderful stories, and if I had more time I'd do it, but after 30 pages I'm pulling the plug. Wish I was a faster reader...

Kinky Fun!

This is the kind of book that absolutely required two POVs, because reading it strictly from Mitch’s perspective in book one had me interested but feeling a little bit meh about the story. But when book two switched to Scott’s perspective, that’s where the story really took off for me. Suddenly, things made much more sense and it made me appreciate both MCs so much more.

This series kind of reminds me of a less pain slutty version of Kris Ripper’s Little Red & Big Bad series, and since I thoroughly enjoyed that one, it’s definitely a favourable comparison.

This series is big on consent and respecting limits, so if you like reading about kink but don’t appreciate being surprised by bad Doms or or non-con, you might find these books to your taste.

This series is absolutely amazing. I stumbled across this first book in a search for kinky m/m erotica, and I almost didn’t borrow it. Why? The aesthetic of the cover and title had me wary—I thought it would be turn out to be another one of those throw-away erotica books with fluff for plot. I was so wrong. It’s packed with content you’ll want to devour. It’s a strangers-to-lovers story with a scorching level of heat and kink. It also had a completely new-to-me twist for a main character. Do not be fooled by the oversimplified cover and title—this book is hot and full of complexity. I inhaled this book in 2 days, and the rest of the series within the same week. This book will definitely keep you entertained. This series will fill all your kink fantasies—they hit a little of everything and it is just so smoothly done. I could not more highly recommend this series to anyone looking for sexy erotica with an engrossing plot.

So surprising!!

So these books started like a bad porno. It’s exactly what I was looking for, a bit of light reading before bed. That changed as the book went on and I’ve completely fallen in love with these MCs. Without a real blurb I wasn’t sure what I was getting into, I started them after a rec that they were bdsm with other elements I enjoy. Really happy I stuck past the first few chapters. They do have a fair bit of angst and some of it was hard to read (later on in the series) but I really enjoyed that as well. I like to be a bit emotionally tormented by my reading lol they do need a little more editing but I don’t think it distracts from the story too much. Definitely a 5 star read

I have read a lot of BDSM m/m books and I can't believe I have never heard of this author, I am sooo thankful to come across it on one of my many m/m facebook groups XD

The book started out like bad porn and I fully expected it to play out like a bad porn but then the POV changed and I am just.. floored.

It is a difficult read sometime, the angst level is pretty high up there but it is sooo worth the ride <3 This book is everything I love to read in a BDSM book, the author really knows their stuff. But my fave part of this book is the characters, I like how this series is really about the journey of both MCs in discovering themselves and finding out what they mean to each other.

I was hoping things would get better but even after a long while, the dom went looking for 2 additional sex subs when the MC was away on a trip, when he knew the MC wasn't comfortable with non-exclusivity. Just no.

I guess I have to give up on reading BDSM books if all are promiscuous like this book and Open Mind.

Lo empecé porque quería lago kinky, fácil y rápido de leer .... es todo eso y mucho más
Cada libro está contado desde el punto de vista de cada protagonista, pero la hstoria es correlativa, no lees lo mismo dos veces. Mejor el segundo que el primero, pero ambos muy buenos
Mención especial al dominante de la relación, por fin un Dom que no me resulta pedante y pre-potente, es más, lo adoro....

There's nothing like loving a book even more on a re-read. It's amazing how much is packed into this even though it's very sexual, the scenes are not gratuitous at all.

I actually grabbed this from KU because KU and really wasn't expecting much. I mean, the cover is pretty awful and the title isn't much better. But to my surprise I found myself drawn into the story quite a bit. I really like the characters, and the BDSM reads like the author actually knows what they are talking about. There are definitely editing issues, and I'm not sure about the representation of Aspergers, but I want to follow through to see where this goes.

So, yay, something I went into with zero expectations actually turning out to be really decent and compelling.
