5 - "Being respectable... was going to kill him." Stars!

Lauren Smith is one of a few authors who I will happily read Historical Romance by, mainly because it’s so well-crafted you just get lost in the story.

An Earl by Any Other Name; the first book from her new Sins and Scandals series met all of my expectations and then some.

Love was a risk he would not take...

I really enjoyed Leo and Ivy’s story, it’s a sort of old and new money collides type of tale, except Leo’s old money has pretty much

I'm a huge Downton Abbey fan and when I saw Matthew Crawley die I just knew I had to write a story where some form of Matthew had a happy ending. So I dreamed up the scandalous tale of Ivy, the half-gypsy heiress and the reformed bad boy Leo who's now facing life as an Earl after his father dies in his mistresses bed leaving Leo and his mother in scandal and potential financial ruin. I had a blast researching the suffragette movement and giving my heroine Ivy a voice when it came to politics and ...more

Sometimes if you haven't read one of your favorite authors in awhile you forget how much you loved their writing. This new Series takes place eleven years into the Twentieth Century. Leo, Earl of Hampton will do whatever is necessary to make sure the legacy that his father almost destroyed will last through his lifetime and that of his children. ...more

This first book in Lauren Smith’s Sins and Scandals series may be short but it’s got more sass, steam, and sweetness than many full length novels. Some novellas seem too long, as if they should have been a short story. Some end too soon, like they should have been a full length novel. But An Earl By Any Other Name is perfect. A fully developed story that keeps you riveted from beginning to end.

Leopold Graham, Lord Hampton and his mother had been a year out of mourning but no one had forgotten

He's a rogue of the first order. Never met a woman he couldn't tempt or a party he wouldn't enjoy. She's a firecracker. Independent and meant to be the center of attention. Even if that notice, lands her in some sticky situations and having to face down some judgmental people. Ivy and Graham are two halves of a whole, but too bullheaded to admit it. Lauren Smith has never been afraid of explosive tales and carnal delights. An Earl By Any Other Name stays true to that formula but throws in some l ...more

ARC REVIEW

An Earl by Any Other Name is the first book of Lauren Smith's new Sins and Scandals series. It's novella length and insta-lust to love. I know they say never judge a book by it's cover but I assumed (yeah I know) that this was a Regency or Victorian historical romance (strictly judging the dress), nope it's Edwardian early 1910. It really threw me off when they started talking about automobiles. Apparently I don't pay close enough attention to the Italic print at the beginning of a ch

Very cute story set in the early 1900s. Leo, Earl of Hampton, is in financial trouble. He plans to marry a wealthy neighbor to whom he is not attracted to save his estate. Much to his dismay, his mother is involved in the women’s suffrage movement. She is planning a house party and talks him into it by saying she won’t go to the political meeting.

One of the guests, Ivy Leighton, spent the first years of her life living at his estate as her mother worked there. Leo was older but played with her

An Earl by Any Other Name is set in early 1900’s where women’s right activist are on the rise. A fairly light hearted read. I loved that Leo's mother, despite the travesty of her marriage (or perhaps because of it) and her being a lady of Society, is unapologetically a suffragette. Leo made my heart hurt at first with the way he was so stressed about fixing the damages done by his late father's whoring ways and the way the economy is changing. Planning to marry so as to save those that rely on him instead of for love seemed so tragic. His mother and her devious machinations to show him th ...more

My escape into historical romance typically settles on the Regency period, so this story was a change for me. Based in the Edwardian period, with very Downton Abbey like moments, this novella was cute.

Actually, there really wasn’t a story. Leo and Ivy were both likable but the story was so filled with sexual thoughts from Leo and his constant inner thoughts about how he wanted Ivy but really had to marry Miss Mildred Pepperwirth for her dowry. It became quite annoying. Of course, everyone got their HEA but there could have been more story and less sexual thoughts.

There was explicit sex but I skipped it.

Leopold Graham, Lord Hampton, short on funds and long on looks and charm has resigned himself to marrying for convenience after the scandal of his fathers’ death. Half gypsy heiress Ivy Leighton knows what it is to be different and vows never to marry and give up her rights to a husband as she takes up the suffragette cause. Yet Leo and Ivy each secretly harbor the dream of finding happiness and their one true love.

Leopold Graham, the new Earl of Hampton, resigned himself to marrying for money. It was the only way to save his estate. His father died in the bed of his mistress, an Italian opera singer. Everywhere he went in London, whispers about his disgraced family followed him. His father's behavior left he and his mother shunned from the best homes and businesses, including investors. He had to do something. Leo refused to face the demise of his home and the life he had always known.

AN EARL BY ANY OTHER NAME by Lauren Smith is the novella length first in Smith’s new series, Sins and Scandals. QUITE AN AVERAGE HISTORICAL ROMANCE...THAT SADLY LACKS A GENUINE SPARK OF INTEREST BETWEEN THE CHARACTERS.

OUR HERO wants to save his earldom after the death of his father, who died in the bed of his mistress. Terrible scandal that. So, he's going to marry a woman of the peer who can salvage his family's reputation. In turn, he becomes a serious man, shedding his days of gallivanting and skirt chasing which turned him into a terribly dull man. When his matchmaking mama invites a lady over to the

This novella is the first in Lauren Smith’s new Sins and Scandals series that definitely looks promising. It had everything I love in a historical romance: an engaging story, witty dialogue, emotion, an endearing heroine, and a sexy rake hero reformed by love.

Leo Graham, Lord Hampton, is in a pickle. His family’s reputation is tainted by a scandal and he needs to find funds to protect his legacy and family home. A marriage of convenience seems to be the only option to solve his financial proble

A few days ago I read, An Earl By Any Other Name by Lauren Smith. I absolutely loved the story. I'm only gripe will be the cover. The cover reminds me of most regency stories, so when I came to find out it was set in 1911 I was a little shock. That's pretty much my only issue with the story. However, it's a wonderful story set in a time where there a lot of change going on. We have women who want the right to vote, would like a voice in the world. They want to be more t

this was fun. Sensual at times but so much fun especially with Leo trying to figure out Ivy. And when he realizes that button is back it gets more entertaining.

Leo is a good guy. He was once carefree and rakish but then his dad dies in scandal and he becomes more serious. Almost to serious. He is thinking of marrying this really really stiff and snobby woman to save his family home. He gives us up on the idea of love. So sad because he is a sweet guy unde

This book....THIS BOOK!!! If you are a fan of Downton Abby, or Titanic, or the early 20th century (pre WW 1), you will love this book. Laure Smith masterfully takes us back to the age where there was still a touch of elegance in society, where a good name could make or break a fortune, and when you still had to choose between marrying for love and for wealth.

This book reminded me of the relationship between Lady Sybill and Tom Branson from Downton Abby, but in reverse. In Lauren's book, the her
