Great plot and characters, but the pace of the story got bogged down by mundane details and I found myself skimming quite a bit.
Carrie Schmidt (Reading is My SuperPower)
Saving Lord Whitton’s Daughter combines intrigue and romance with two popular plot devices: a Regency setting and a marriage-of-convenience trope. These two plot devices also happen to be two of my favorites, so the combination of them in one novel was sure to grab my attention.

Lady Bethany is a delightful heroine – with hair as independent as she is, according to her mother. (I loved that line! haha!) She has an inner strength born of loss and tragedy and while she is in some ways still bound b

Saving Lord Whitton's Daughter is a clean engaging historical romance by Susan Tietjen. I found the reading great, smooth and the characters fun and likeable. The scenes portrait a proper era and the characters play their part divinely.
Lady Bethany doesn’t want to marry en the count that she was hurt horribly one night and she feels that she has nothing to offered to a man. Up to a year she manage to avoid the wedding bells until her mother tell her if she doesn’t marry soon they will lose thei

Lady Bethany would rather die a spinster than submit to marriage and reveal a horrible secret she has harbored for more than a year. Lord Locke is indebted to Bethany’s late father and offers up a solution for both of them: a marriage by name only. The arrangement would be perfect, if only, they were not so irresistibly drawn to each other. Will they be able to steer clear of each other when thrown together by attempted murder and treason?
I love Lady Bethany. She is a strong independent woman wh

I really enjoyed this Regency Romance debut by Susan Tietjen. As other readers mentioned there were a few typos and there were some discrepancies with timing. However, I still found the plot enjoyable and thought Tietjen did a commendable job of weaving together the storyline. I solved the mystery before it was revealed but enjoyed discovering the truth along with the characters. I would read more from this author.

Romance and Extra

I found this novel compelling because it had intrigue, spies, betrayal, an unconventional heroine, and of course romance. It was hard to put down.

Saving Lord Whitton's Daughter is a Regency Romance, but it is also a story of intrigue and suspense. I suspected the truth about several things, but it was fun to have the evidence unfold at just the right pace. There were enough unanswered questions to keep me reading. For example, the true depth of the "bad guy's" deceptions isn't known until the end. The characters were realistic and endearing. I found myself wondering about the characters and story line between reading sessions. To me, it's ...more

As the last surviving member of her family, besides her mother, Lady Bethany is desperate to save her home and will do anything (except for marrying long time friends) to accomplish that. When Lord Locke offers a marriage of convenience, she accepts, little realizing he has a hidden motive for doing so.

I struggled with this book. It took me over a week to get through it. I would read a few pages, get angry, and put it away until I'd think "I must not have been in the right mood for it. It can't
