Happy Healing I was of two minds when starting this book. I have long been dealing with pain and I am well aware that, while there are medical reasons, there are also reasons beyond that. I have long believed that mental/emotional issues can create pain, and I have been a victim of that. However the cover almost immediately concerned me. “Happy Healing” sounds a little cheesy, and the cover proclaims that these “Magical Steps” to a cure. Anything offering a magical solution also makes me very suspicious. I was frustrated through most of the book. There is a suggesting at the beginning of the book that offers skipping to specific chapters for different situations, and I would strongly recommend using it. On my first read through I felt I needed to this in a linear fashion and read it all. When I was 75% through the book before I started to get real instruction on the process that did frustrate me. It felt like the author had to spend a lot of time convincing me of the benefits of this process, and maybe a little bragging about their extensive training in other areas (acupuncture, massage, yoga, travel to Thailand and China, assisting monks and nuns). One thing that threw me off right from the start were the pronouns. The person in pain seeking a change is constantly referred to as ‘she’. Despite the fact that the author mentions men that have gone through the process they seem to give the impression that the system either doesn’t work for men or they don’t have this sort of issue (which is obviously untrue given the examples). The author also recommends seeing the pain as a person and that the person should be male (for females in pain) without giving a reason for this suggestion. This seemed odd; to name pain that may be connected to a body part that is distinctively female as a male. To develop a connection and empathy for this person while making them so different seemed counterintuitive. I found the author’s insistence on using ‘he’ and ‘she’ pronouns instead of simply ‘they’ distracting. That said, having dealt with pain a long time I’m of the opinion that anything is worth a try, especially when it poses no risk of making things worse. For the low price of the book and a quick read I don’t see the harm in making the attempt. I could see where the therapy offered could reduce pain in the participants and help them come to a better, healthier place. There may be some issues in the book, it may not be structured the way I would do it, but I don’t see where it could do any harm for someone who has been through pain to try this technique to reduce pain, to try and improve their life through the advice in this book.
Happy Healing: 8 Magic Steps to Relieve Physical Pain and Discomfort is an informative and self-help book written by Dominique Bourlet. Dominique Bourlet is a Frenchman living in Germany who became a therapist and a healer without planning it. Moreover, horse whisperer nearly 20 years ago, helping horses overcome their fears towards their partners. The book is about homeopathic healing and carries interesting steps for Happy Healing connecting emotions and self-awareness. Self-help books are not really my genre but I enjoyed reading this book. I thank the author for the opportunity. The book is well-written and organized. Also, the author shared his experience with horses as a horse lover that was a bonus. I liked this phrase
"Calming the mind allows me to calm my emotions and my feelings, including pain, this very special sensation/emotion"
For me, the Happy Healing protocol is a bit long since I am a 7 in 1 product kinda girl. But it was interesting to read. I would try it for my Body-in-pain parts or ALL :)) It is a light read and self-help books readers would like it and those who look for non-surgical alternatives for their physical pain.
The author draws attention to an important point that I haven’t thought about before: Without the pain, we wouldn’t be able to understand what was wrong with our body. So, why do we complain about it and make ourselves emotionally miserable?
There are some great ideas on accepting our pain and overcoming it, without depressing ourselves more. What's more interesting about this book is, you don't need to start reading it from the beginning; there's a detailed index in it that shows you which chapters you should read, according to your preferences. Whether you want a quick fix for your pain or a spiritual journey, this book has it all. It broadens your mind and teaches you to look from a different perspective.
I wish I could give 4.5 stars, to be honest. I'm already a fan of homeopathic healing (despite being involved in modern medicine) and I loved the tone of the book. It was almost as though a guide is walking you through what you could be doing. I still recommend this book for believers in homeopathic medicine and also for doctors who are trying to better understand the potentially "extra" things that their patients are doing. However, some of the suggestions did seem a bit at odds with other theories. One example is the bit about naming one's pain. Naming generally forms an attachment. We name pets, out favorite toys, or a car- all things we like. So why name something causing us trouble? Maybe it's something to think about...
This book was superb! It helps that I'm a big believer in alternative medicine, which is a big part of the basic idea of the book. Even so, just going into it with an open mind is a good idea. It was easy to follow and understand, unlike some nonfiction/health books that can be loaded down with jargon or feel wordy.
It helped me ease my knee and back pain, and also helped my overall emotional state. Whenever I feel sore or my joints act up, I just think of the easy steps this book outlines and almost instantly feel better! Practicing the art of Happy Healing really does make you feel altogether happier!
This book details a healing method based in an essential truth in many non-Western healing traditions: your relationship with your body-in-pain is a crucial part of healing, and if that relationship is broken, healing will be difficult if not impossible. While the book was strong in many ways, a lack of hard evidence outside of brief anecdotal evidence made it difficult to believe its claims that it could heal pain and disease by extending love and empathy to the body-in-pain. The evidence exists, but this author did not detail the research in a way that satisfied the need for it. Interesting read.
In short, this self help book contains homeopathic-type steps to healing physical pain. The goal of this book is to address and ease pain without the use of OTC (over the counter) drugs. It's not magic by any means but it teaches about a different mindset that I believe may truly help to treat pain in some people. Though this book may not be everyone's cup of tea, it is worth a read especially for anyone dealing with physical pain. I would encourage doubters to at least try it the steps outlined in the book. Holistic practices can certainly be helpful.
Really good book written in easy to understand vocabulary. The fact that the author refers to pain as Lady Pain is really appealing since it suddenly helps you understand the concept of pain and makes one feel that your pain isn't in your head but rather an unfortunate part of your life which has to be accepted, and then conquered.
This book offers a different take on managing your pain and can be read tailored to your particular needs. It may sound hokey to personify your pain (e.g. give it a name & description and talk to it) but hey, if it works, who cares, right? Just like mindfulness, it’s about being open to new possibilities.
I really liked the idea that this book is trying to portray and make you think about. if you look at you're pain as what you should show it, that being empathy and not angst or remorse. This would make your "pain" not so terrible to deal with. It was a seemingly well written book and I like the understanding that I have taken away from it for myself. I would recommend to someone else.
This book has information to heal the body pain that has no medicines. Doctors could only prescribe pain killers and the pain could be for a lifetime. This self-healing book will give you information and knowledge to heal by loving your body in pain and then gradually, you will see the magic unfold.
The first thing that stood about to me about this book was just how nicely organised it is.
Everything is written nicely and clearly explained. It gives a new perspective on pain and dealing with it and I think these ideas will help me in the future.
One of the best book involving Poncepts of healing pain. Really good book and easy to understand . The fact that the author refers to pain is really awesome in terms of therapies involved in healing the pain and the nature of pain
