The highest praise I can give "A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider" is that I
didn't finish it--because it was essential that I give it to my wife who has an immediate NEED for the book.
She is an only child dealing with the recent death of her father. She had the difficult task of moving her mother 7,000 miles to an assisted living facility due to her progressing dementia.
The stories of hope, faith, intervention and acceptance are what she needs right now. Aside from the spiritual guidance, the stories of how different people coped with wildly different life-changing setbacks are of immediate value to her.
In 'Careful What you Whisper', T. L. Wiens broke her back in simple play with her children, and she described the difficult road back to a New Normal. But her recognition and appreciation of the help of others, and how the setback brought out the best in her friends and family is an inspiring story of adjustment and thankfulness for God's intervention.
I finished half the book before realizing how much my wife needs it NOW. I will finish it soon, but for now I'm laying the book into her hands.
This is a well-written and touching book full of practical advice. Although it is faith-based, it is certainly not "preachy." I very much recommend it.

Reread this delightful book again in 2019, and was once again motivated, inspired, convicted and encouraged by the great stories of real life which are used in this Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider. Perfect reading on a cold, snowy day or to relax around the pool on a hot summer's day.
A wonderfully well-done collection of mostly non-fiction stories by a variety of writers. I loved all these stories and used the book as a daily reading book, along with my Bible reading as each non-fiction story gave me an honest look into the lives of real families, and the ones showed as fiction were also very helpful, as even though they were fiction for the author, they mostly represent real life. Thanks for all the authors for their contributions and to N.J. Lindquist for putting this collection together.

My Review:
A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider is a book with a collection of heart warming grace filled stories used to instantly make you want to sit by a warm fire, bundled in a blanket until you close the book. It is touching and it is filled with short stories by many Canadian authors.
My favorite two stories were True Thanksgiving which tells of a woman who in the middle of her unforgivable pain had to learn that God does indeed make goodness out of our bad and even our sad experiences. My second favorite was When You're Understood You Can Put Up With Almost Anything, where the author talks about his long, lasting marriage and what has helped he and his wife, Janice stay so closely connected all these years.
The short stories are the perfect length. And you don't have to worry about continuing where you left off. They are very endearing and inspiring stories sure to lift any mood. I really liked the book. This little book can touch many hearts through its stories and poems. A lot of them inspired me. Love the fact these were true stories of hardships and how they came through them. Anyone can relate to the stories and use them in their own life. I was very encouraged by it. With the book I also got a Discussion Guide what a awesome tool. I think this book should be in all church , school and home libraries. The guide would be great in a group setting. Like a ladies Bible study. I might suggest it for our ladies. This a 5 star book.

A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider is a delightful arrangement of short stories, poems and other writings that will encourage and speak to each individual reader. The accompanying discussion guide is a fantastic tool that can be easily used by individual readers as well as by groups of any size. I thoroughly enjoyed the honest and upfront non-fiction stories as well as the creative and inspiring fictional stories. This is a book that I would purchase for friends and family alike. There were so many great stories that to pick just one as a favorite would be hard to do. However, I really enjoyed Active Surrender by Brian C. Austin. As an example of the quality writing within this book, this particular story spoke of perseverance and faith. Chrysalis: Life in the Making by Ruth Smith Meyer was so beautifully done and it brought tears to my eyes. This book is a marvelous read and highly recommended.

This volume is a warm and inspiring anthology that makes accessible the writing of 37 gifted Canadian Christian writers. They bring us short slices of real life that will alternately have us laughing and shedding tears, nodding our heads in agreement and muttering, "what a good idea."
I'm not normally a reader of anthologies or short stories of any kind. I much prefer sweeping novels of adventure. And thus this volume sat on my bedside table for some time. Then one day I took it up and began to read. Before long I was asking myself why I had delaying diving into this thought-provoking volume. It is good. It is well-written. The stories and articles are short. They run the gamut of human experience with such a variety of expression that there is something for everyone.
Here is an ideal volume to give as a gift on mother's day, or any other day. Highly recommended.

Great reads, both fiction/non-fiction, as well as a couple of poems. Similar to a Chicken Soup for the Soul, BUT so much better as all 50 inclusions are faith based.
As a Canadian, I loved that all authors were Canadian, and that as I read through I could picture myself in many of the places mentioned, having been there. This book is not just for Canadians, but will definitely touch your heart, bring you smiles, tears and make you stop and think.
I was blessed to be sent the accompanying discussion guide and strongly suggest you pick it up along with the book, as it will take you further in your faith walk, as you you dig deeper after each story.

A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider is an inspirational collection of poems, fiction & non-fiction short stories written by different people who often share the most meaningful & often challenging moments in their lives. They will pull at you heart strings & stir all your emotions. Like having a heart to heart with special friends. As the stories & poems tend to be 1 to 5 pages, it's a great book to carry with you in your car or purse for when you just have a moment in which you wish to take a journey in a book. I would recommend this book to those who like to share intimate moments with a friend.

A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider is a delightful anthology full of heart-warming stories that will stay with the reader for a very long time.
Editors N. J. Lindquist and Wendy Elaine Nelles knew what they were doing when they picked the stories for this book. There wasn't one in the entire anthology that didn't touch me in some way. In fact, there were so many good stories that I would be hard-pressed to pick a favourite. This book is a keeper.

This book contains 51 Poems, Fiction and Non Fiction stories written by different men and women, and in the back of the book there is a guide to who wrote what. I liked this as it helped me understand each of the stories and poems just a little bit better.
A Discussion Guide for readers, book clubs, small groups and speakers came with the book. Each article has several pages of thought provoking questions that will guide you to more in depth study. A Reader’s Guide brochure also accompanied the books.

It's a great book to pick up and read one story at a time whenever you need a lift in spirit. What a perfect title - You can feel and smell the comfort from a cup of hot apple cider and you just get that same comfort from reading these stories. I would recommend this book to everyone - male, female, young, old, content with life, or needing a boost in spirit. It would be a wonderful "coffee table" item or in a guest room.

I was given a chance to read A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider by N.J. Lindquist. I love books that are short stories inside a bigger book. It was a fun read with insight into each author in the book, which makes me fall in love with the stories even more. I love finding out more about the people who write different things as I gain insight into them as a person. I’m excited to check out Hot Apple Cider, since I read them in the wrong order. But I have a feeling it doesn’t matter which order you read them in. Either way, you leave satisfied and filled up.

A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider is a wonderful collection of stories from writers

I identified with many of the characters and the settings and treasured reading about the diversity in our beautiful country. The types of stories are delightfully different including fiction, nonfiction, and poetry in a variety of Canadian voices. I enjoyed reading at least one piece every evening for a daily dose of faith, hope and comfort.

A Second Cup of Hot Apple Cider by N.J. Lindquist and Wendy Elaine Nelles. This is a wonderful book filled with heartwarming inspirational stories and poems. I could not put this book down! This book will most definitely touch the hearts of anyone who reads it, and I highly recommend it to everyone!
I love that these stories, poems, etc are just long enough to satisfy, but short enough to keep people like my husband interested and coming back for more. LOVED this book! Now to go get the first one!

A Second Cup of Apple Cider is a great collection of stories both nonfiction and fiction and some poems. I am glad that I could get this book. I enjoyed reading it. The stories especially non-fiction are very interesting, inspiring and heart-touching as well. They make you think and they have message.
It is a good book to read for young and old as well.It would be a great gift for friends or loved ones. The study guide would be helpful for small group study discussions.

A Second Cup of Apple Cider is a collection of stories both nonfiction and fiction and also includes poems. These are stories from talented authors who live in Canada. I really enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to everyone. It is heartwarming, inspirational, encouraging and comforting.

I found this anthology to be candidly honest, inspiring, and motivational. Would work great as a devotional resource, but also whenever you want a short, inspirational read.
