When you hear about Sunstone the first and main thing people will tell you is that it's a book about BDSM, then they will also tell you that it's a female/female romance, also it's written by a dude. So yeah, this comic, the execution of Ally and Lisa's relationship could have gone so wrong, I'm actually amazed at how beautifully written the characters and the relationships were. The subject alone can be quite tricky to explore. It could have been so crass, so vulgar. But BDSM is not really the ...more

4.5 stars. Ths book reminds me in many ways of the classic "Strangers in Paradise" series.

What could have been a prurient, titilating tale becomes so much more in the hands of this talented group of creators!

The gorgeous art by Stjepan Seijuc draws the reader in immediately, while the story serves to keep the reader enthralled.

Yes, this title is not for everyone, as it does prominently feature lesbian sex & BDSM, but that's actually just a small part of the big picture, as this title is surpris

This Is cute more than anything else. Cute and sexy - a really good combination. And it’s not too graphic ;except for some boobies ,you don’t see much else.
And have I told you how cute their relationship is? Really cute 😻

Sunstone is a magnificent graphic novel that demonstrates what the healthiest side of the BDSM world looks like. This is what kink should be, and although it is definitely a safe and loving environment it is still very not suitable for younger audiences.

BDSM relationships got a poularity boost from the absolutely abhorent Fifty Shades of Grey. I cannot tell you every way that the relationship popularized in these books and movies is toxic. It is not a representation of the true kink community an

This book is so great. Tells the story of the beginnings of a relationship between two really likable characters, with all the anxiousness and excitement that comes with meeting someone new and falling in love. Plus, it shows what BDSM is and isn't, from multiple points of view. And the art is really excellent. I'm very excited to start book 2 to see what Ally, Lisa and friends get up to next. ...more

Short elevator pitch review: "50 shades of grey, eat your heart out".

Longer review: This comic and it's premise could very easily have ended up as cheep, pandering and as blatant fanservice to a stereotypical comic demographic. I mean, one of the first lines (from the narrator) is "WAIT DON'T LEAVE YET. THIS BOOK HAS LOTS OF HOT LESBIAN BONDAGE SEX". but it's both so much more and at the same time a pretty basic love story, with very strong characterizations.

It really is quite cool that Image p

Stunning artwork and a great story about the intersection of friendship, sex, and love. This book is about sex yes, but it is also so much more. Ally and Lisa are three dimensional women who are at times funny, strong, weak, confused, brave, and more. I love that we get to see so many different sides to their lives.

Plus Stjepan's artwork is sensual and gorgeous. And the behind the scenes story of how Sunstone came to be is an interesting read.

I remember reading this waaaaay back in the day on DA, and I this re-read to be a very similar experience, I enjoyed it about the same but with the same concerns. For the most part my biggest issue is how bogged down the story gets with the internal narration. I feel like the inner monologue, past the initial explanation about BDSM and the community, really slows things down. Once those thought boxes start to focus on the relationships and characters they lose their shine, they slow down the pac ...more

Sunstone is probably the best romance I've read. I do wonder if a lot of the attraction to the story comes from it disguising the romance element through the veneer of erotica. It stealthy sneaks up on a reader in that sense. Perhaps I read more romance this wouldn't have resonated so well.

I think the big caveat is that it is about BDSM and is fairly graphic. I'm not in that subculture but very much enjoyed the story. The art is great.

This was so good! Going into it, I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. Not only was it an erotic graphic novel but the way the characters find themselves and explain moments where they felt lost were really touching.

Great lovely book with amazing artwork by Stjepan!

Highly recommended if you like graphic novels with a unique art style, as well as deeper intimate relationships with funny jokes.

The love story was sweet, but I have to admit, there is a LOT of dialogue in a single frame in a lot of instances in this GN. The erotic bit of the book, from what I gleaned, would be good for open minded fans of 50 Shades. Frankly though, if you're reading erotica, you are already open minded, usually. Decent. 3 stars for the overall feel of it, though I wasn't personally all that into it. Honestly, I sped read. But it would prob be the thing some people would really dig. ...more

A lesbian BDSM comic written and drawn by a guy could easily go wrong. So it’s a minor miracle that Sunstone comes across as a sweet, wholesome romance that destigmatizes, not exploits, BDSM culture. Lisa is a submissive who writes erotic fiction; Ally is a domme coder who hoards sex toys and lingerie. They start chatting online, eventually meet, and become quick friends with benefits before feelings take over. Sejic makes these two so likable, with strong voices and emotional honesty. The scene ...more

The book makes clear from the beginning that this is a love story. The opening shots, the bits and pieces and references along the way all make it clear it's going to end well. The point of the story isn't "will they or won't they" or Unresolved Romantic Tension. It's how things happened and the telling of them. It's focused on the characters as people, working hard to stay on the side of the story and characters mattering more than the vehicle for the story and also the stated goal of people at ...more

A printed out version of a gorgeous webcomic.

A working mix of tastefully drawn erotica, drama and comedy, Sunstone has it all. As a member of the kinky world you can probably relate to many moments that come up in either the actual BDSM scenes or casual conversation between characters, but I suspect even a completely vanilla reader will soon feel like they know a lot on the subject. There is a lot of work and knowledge behind those sexy scenes BDSM is known for, and it's here that Sunstone reall

I couldn’t put this book down. I had to keep reading, all the way to the end, and then I plunged right into volume 4 directly after.

These characters. This story! ALL THE FEELS.

There’s this amazing narrative tension that drives the whole thing, that’s the newest twist to “will they, won’t they?” that I’ve read recently. It kept me turning pages. It kept me invested. It kept me on the edge of my seat.

The art is gorgeous, especially when you get a full spread that’s just….so detailed, so elaborate,

This is not the type of title I normally read, but I couldn't pass up on the opportunity when I found it on Hoopla. I had heard of this as a webcomic, and while I knew it had been published as trades, I think it was quite rewarding to get my first experience of it through the collected book. I am a romantic at heart, and this story delivers a curious, rare mix of cheesy I-can't-believe-I'm-falling-in-love, humor, erotica, and useful exposition of the world of BDSM. There is sex, but it is not ex ...more

I've always been curious about Sunstone. I'm a lesbian from a small country, and to learn that the most famous lesbian bdsm graphic novel was written by a guy from the same country, I just had to read it. But I put it off for years until recently.

What can I say, I love the story. And I'm the biggest skeptic when it comes to men writing f/f love stories. Stjepan nails it though. It feels genuine and I can connect to the characters (as a lesbian and as a gamer as well). I like the casualty and nor

I first came across this story when browsing for things to read from the Image Comics library. When I first read the premise and saw the artwork I immediately passed on it, to me it pretty much looked like smut for people who wanted to read pornography disguised has something a bit more high profile. Something akin to the ”Fifty Shades” books.
Then, recently, I once again scrolled through the Image Comics sale on Comixology and saw this at about half price. I had to check if it was really worth a

Stjepan Sejic is incredible! There's not a single thing that isn't absolutely amazing in this book! His drawings are incredible, and the writing blew me away. I never thought I'd be reading a romance comic, but this is really next level.

Also I cannot stress enough how downright jaw-droppingly gorgeous Sejic's art is. Every single page has something to latch on to, and especially his full and double page spreads are gallery worthy.

I had already read the first third of this as another collections, so I knew it was good going in; the artwork is sexy and phenomenal, and the story is about BDSM, kind of. It's really about people, and sexual diversity and kink and sliding scales of sexuality and how sex is bound up (get it?) with the human condition so much that separating it as a subject is kind of silly. This volume contains the stories of a bunch of people in a small circle of friends, and the quality level remains high (in ...more

This is one of the best depictions of BDSM I have ever read. It deals with the nitty-gritty of power trips and the thorniness of how a D/s relationship spills over into your personal life. I could do without some of the talky side characters, who are a little obnoxious. Ally and Lisa are the center of this and the most focused personalities. But the stuff involving the club really doesn't contribute to understanding whta it's like to be in the scene. When the book centers upon the two main chara ...more

4.5 stars | I'm going to start this review by saying I know next to nothing about the BDSM community, so I cannot attest to the accuracy of the representation, but I think it's been done really well. I heard of this series through WoolfsWhistle's channel and it sounded interesting. The characters are all wonderfully nerdy, the developing relationship between Lisa and Ally is adorable and the illustrations are gorgeous (and pretty graphic, it's not a graphic novel you should leave on a coffee tab ...more

It was great to come back to Sunstone after a long hiatus. This hardcover is beautiful and full of additional content. It's an awesome collector's piece, and my raddest kink literature. This is erotica, but really, the relationships, characters and power dynamics are presented in such a real and educational light, that it becomes more. There's not a ton of conflict, and really, it's not a thrilling story, but it is honest, dorky, cute, and gorgeous. For what it is, and what it sets out to be, th ...more

I left individual reviews to each of the volumes after having read them, and decided to do a review for Book One.
This is the first BDSM-focused form of literature that I’ve looked at/read, and I adore the fact that trust was so heavily focused upon. I also love how complex Ally and Lisa are, and how realistic their reactions are. I especially like how complex their relationship is, as well as how the two ladies interact with others.
I’m very excited to read more of this series and wish this serie

This is a collection of Sunstone Volumes 1-3. I went into this with a background in psychology and the community. I was pleasantly surprised that the author’s focus was on the humanity, as opposed to only the sexuality. The plot didn’t take itself too seriously, but also wasn’t afraid to address important issues like personal insecurities, confidence, and physical safety, while appropriately downplaying other topics like sexual partner preferences.

Overall I recommend this (and Book 2) for anyone

4.25 out of 5 stars. One of the most beautifully drawn and colored books! BDSM story is really a relationship story, an individual story, a story of being human. It using BDSM as the medium for looking at relationships, insecurities, trust, and what it means to be a human seeking connection. And also a bit about BDSM and lesbians. Definitely for mature readers. A really enjoyable read - a bit dense at times, meaning after 45 minutes I was ready to move onto something else as it felt a bit "heavy ...more

Pleasantly Surprised

I don't recall where I 1st heard about this book, but I couldn't wait to read psalm. From the very 1st panel, I recognize the artist but did not know... Until I purchased the 1st book. This was 1 of my all time favorite artists because of witchblade. And now I got to see him and An amazing new light, in a world that most people don't understand. This is beautiful, the story is amazing, and I can relate to so much of it. Thank you for creating this wonderful series.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel. It's probably not for everyone, the content is adult in nature (nudity, sex, bondage but very tastefully done) but the themes are pretty basic, shared interests, new relationships, and trust. Really take away all the adult stuff and it's a relationship story about two people meeting in real life after they finding out online that they have a shared interest and about the relationship that grows from it, not only for the two principle characters but also for t ...more
