My daughter has read previous books featuring Lucy – “Lucy’s Secret Reindeer,” and “Lucy’s Magic Snowglobe,” so she was delighted to read the next in the series. This is a stand alone story, but it is nice to read the stories in order. However, all that is really important is that Lucy is a little girl who loves animals and, so far at least, all of the adventures have taken place around Christmas.

This story begins the week before Christmas and Lucy is playing with her friends, Sita and Rosie. Rosie lives near the river and the girls find a baby otter trapped in the reeds. Lucy is convinced that her snow globe is magic at Christmas and so she wishes for the otter to get better and also there is a side story about Rosie singing a solo at a Christmas concert. This is a lovely, feel good, warm story – a little sentimental, but also with good information about wildlife and the damage that litter can do to them.

With 129 pages, short chapters and black and white illustrations, this is a fun book aimed at children approx 6 – 8 years. At the back, there is a recipe to make for the birds in the cold, winter months. A lovely series, which has special appeal for children who love animals.

I thought that this book was awesome. I think that Rosie really didn't need to worry about the concert because she obviously had a great voice (from the praise that she got very often) and at the concert she was awesome. I also think that it was good of Lucy and "the group" to go out and pick up the rubbish form the river to stop another otter getting hurt. The otter was really cheeky to run out of the Centre , though, right before the concert because then Lucy had to chase after him. At least that made Lucy see that she should have wished for Rosie and the otter instead of preteneding that the maagic didn't even exist. It was like she had locked herself away. Now, Lucy wished Rosie good luck and she wished that the otter went to the sanctuary so that he could get out into the river and live a happy life. My favourite charcter is Lucy because she was just so eager to help the little otter and at least she also now knows that the otter is much better off living in the river than with her. It is also very dangerous because although he seems like a really sweet little otter baby now he could grow into a a fully-grown-adult otter and bite Lucy. Lucy defintiely deserved the otter model that she got as an early christmas present from Gran. Also, I think that Lucy's Christmas presents was really cool and nice. The letter that Lucy read must have made her very, very, very happy. I reccomend this book to everyone as it is awesome and amazing.
