When the author first reached out to me to review this book I was really excited. Angels and demons, Vikings and reincarnation? It sounded totally up my alley! And while I loved the use of mythology and the world-building around how magic worked in this story, this book never really clicked for me.

I think one of the bigger issues that contributed to me not really getting into Demons and Destiny was that it is the second in a series and I hadn't read the first one. I don't normally read series ou When the author first reached out to me to review this book I was really excited. Angels and demons, Vikings and reincarnation? It sounded totally up my alley! And while I loved the use of mythology and the world-building around how magic worked in this story, this book never really clicked for me.

I think one of the bigger issues that contributed to me not really getting into Demons and Destiny was that it is the second in a series and I hadn't read the first one. I don't normally read series out of order like this, but the author assured me that they could be read out of order. I did not find that to be the case.

While it is true that the main plotline in this book is separate from the plot of the first book in the series, the plot of the first book is constantly referenced. Many of the characters in the first book have been reincarnated as characters who show up in Demons and Destiny. The book gives a "what are they up to now" look at these characters, so maybe if I had read the first book first I would have thought it was very interesting. As it was, it felt like I was given a lot of non-essential details about minor characters' lives and things that happened in their past lives that weren't necessarily relevant to the plot.

And even when some of these details were relevant to the plot, because I hadn't read the first book, I didn't have an emotional connection to these past events. It just felt like I was being told a lot instead of getting to see events unfold. This was made even more difficult given that there is such a large cast of characters.

I did really enjoy the characters' relationships with each other. I could tell that the author had spent a lot of time developing their backstories and fleshing out their different dynamics. The big cast was confusing at times, but it was made less so by the fact that each character was very distinct, memorable, and complex.

This book has a great concept, interesting characters, and cool world-building. If that interests you, definitely give this series a whirl, even if it wasn't for me - but be sure to start with book one!

Demons and Destiny is a story about gods manipulating men who were formerly angels across multiple lifetimes. In his lifetime as a Viking translator and warrior, Tyr joins him mortal brethren on Celtic shores, conquering villages and taking thralls. Rarely one to ask for such spoils, Tyr sees Madigan, a beautiful blue-painted Celtic warrior woman. Realizing that the others may harm her should she be taken by one of them, he asks for her as his thrall. He promises to one day free her when it is appropriate if in return she answers his questions to assist him in negotiating trade with her people. Not only does he successfully do so with her help, but she ingratiates herself among the men with her herbal and cooking skills. Nuada, Madigan’s god, instructs Tyr to make her his wife. Tyr convinces her and they find wedded bliss for a time. Nuada has other tricks up his sleeve, resulting in her tragic death. Nuada strikes a deal with Tyr. Once Tyr removes all demons from Earth, Nuada will reunite him with Madigan.
The tale zips forward to modern day. Tyr is reborn as Tyrel, a security expert and P.I. Other characters from the first book, former angels reincarnated by choice as mortals with magical powers, join him in his feverish quest to dispose of all demons and regain his lady love. Tyr’s wife has been reborn without her memories as Madison, a biologist with no belief in demons or magic. Nuada continues to manipulate characters, especially Tyr, to further his own selfish ends. Most of these schemes lead to conflict and violence, providing obstacles for the characters to overcome. While some of the characters find happiness and resolution, others are left with their fates uncertain.
Demons and Destiny has many varying conflicts, such as man versus the supernatural, man versus man, man against himself, and man versus nature. Its themes include fate versus free will, the strength and nature of true love, the responsibilities and shackles of having power, and the bitterness of envy. The pace moved quickly through most of the book. The plot, world, and characters were interesting but I felt I would have enjoyed them more had I read the first book beforehand. My favorite character was Elizabeth. Although she lost a great deal, she didn’t allow it to swallow her whole. Instead, she moved forward, trying to use her knowledge to help her friends. I was also fond of Alan, Gabriel’s manservant. Alan was a font of loyalty and gentlemanly courage, even in the face of grave danger.
I enjoyed reading Demons and Destiny. I’d recommend this book to lovers of paranormal urban fiction. ...more

Goes down as another off my 2018 Bookworm Bingo Challenge – A book that features supernatural powers. Hold onto your hats as this is going to be another supernatural filled ride with past and present lives colliding.

After failing in her training with the Druids Madigan chose to become a Blue warrior. Well it was either to become a Blue warrior where she might die or be a willing sacrifice to their god Nuada (one she maybe shouldn’t put too much faith in). The Vikings mother tongue is different from her own so she is shocked when one man laughs after she curses the one that caught her.

Tyrel remembers his past life as Angel Tyrryal and because of it has the ability to talk many languages, among other things. With this he needs to find a way to get Madigan to tell him where her leaders are so his people can talk trade. If not then they will kill her and take everything else by force. He feels a connection for her straight away, so claims her to keep her safe. She still doesn’t know if she can trust him but after it seems that her god has blessed them – and by gifting her a dog companion to keep her safe – she doesn’t hold back her feelings for him.

Seems they were both too trusting of Nuada as he was just using them as parts in a game he is trying to control. With the help of darker magic he forces fate in another direction. One that would see heartbreak and death for both and end up binding Tyrel to do his bidding. Seems Tyrel can walk in the Shadow Realm and was once the Angel of Justice where he had to send demonic creatures back to hell. Seems Nuada wants him to be his warrior again. Once all demons are returned to their realm, she will be returned to him. Seems these fallen angels love fiercely and are willing to go through hell (literally) to find their way back to their soul mates.

I think I liked it better that you didn’t spend too long in a past life and got back to the present day. Also liked finding out that before Tyrel fell, and ultimately meeting Madigan for the first time, he spent the time the look for most of Adamina’s children to see them safe. Seems to have worked too as the past lives of Adamina’s children, well most of them, have been reincarnated and found there way back to each other. Remembering their pasts and still having magic in their presence, connected to their souls perhaps? They all seem to work with Tyrel at his PI firm, aka the firm that helps get rid of demons. They need to band together to fight a new evil but you never quite know which direction it will be coming from.

Present day sees Tyrel wanting to get close to Elizabeth’s (Adamina in her past life) friend Madison from the first moment he saw her. I think you can guess why. He might have found his past love but she has no memories of him and danger is never too far away. Seeing her just made him more focused in his task of getting rid of demons because once done he could finally be free and be with her. With his single mindedness though he can be easily led in the wrong direction. All he does is to protect Madison but he can go about it the wrong way.

Elizabeth is feeling lost now she is magic-blind after everything that went down with Lucifer, Uriel/Roger and Gabriel and seemingly in danger because of it. Was good to see Gabriel again as you see more of who he really is and how he acts in his new relationship with his adopted daughter Morgana, who happens to be his and Adamina’s daughter from their past life in Avalon. His gentleman butler Alan was great and played a bit more of a role with being interlinked within the story, which was cool.

Seems everyone has a gift and they are all needed to play their part in what’s to come so they better start practicing because the time for destiny is upon them. The moment Avalon was created a balance was shifted and it needs to be reset. The only ones that can help are the Angels. Seems the fallen ones are soon to be called home. Another fun, creative read with magical elements and soul mates throughout.

Demons and Destiny is the second in the series of Angels and Avalon , but this one can be read as a stand-alone . ( I haven’t read the book one ) .

I can’t tell you how excited I was when I got an email from Miss Milos about her book . I mean , I love the Vikings and Celts ! So I went into the book amazingly quick and guess what ? The story was really well plotted .

Demons and Destiny transcends time, a fresh take on its genre where gods are pit against the souls of men through the ages- which is troubling in and of itself to think a grudge could follow you through your lifetimes.

A friend suggested this book to me and I was able to hop right into it- sadly I didn't realize it was the second in the series until afterward and I wish I was able to read the first, you know, first- but all is well.

Wow!! Another epic read. This second book wraps up loose ends and answers questions left from book one, but leaves enough mystery for another book. (I hope) Drama, suspense,humor and romance abound.
